Monk is garbage and yes it does have a paper thin script. The actors are not that interesting and the OCD storyline gets buried with grossly moronic humor.

The old USA Network was far superior. Up All Night was a blast to watch every weekend, and Rhonda Shear is actually a very intelligent woman whose Rhonda character was loved by many. Now the USA has gone down the toilet with tons of sensationalized cop shows and lifeless Monk reruns. No one watches it now except you.

@cheapcape: Monk is not cheaply acted, nor does it have 'paper thin scripts'-it's about a man laid low by the murder of his wife, who decided to carry on regardless of the tragedy, being a cop. The plot's the same as that of Longstreet and another show with the same plot as Longstreet, except that Monk's not blind, but suffers form obsessive–compulsive disorder-which ironically helps him solve cases. If you think that Love Boat's better than this, YOU are in need of therapy, NOT me.

I think we can be honest here... practically EVERYONE watched the ABC lineup of Love Boat and Fantasy Island back in the day (even the ones that won't admit it). It was an escape from reality and every episode ended on a happy positive note.

I remember watching the Love Boat (and Fantasy Island) on a regular basis every Sat. night back in the early-mid 1980s when it still was originally on the air. There was and is something so SOOTHING about the opening theme as well as each and every episode. Entertaining too. Saturday nights are just not the same these days without The Love Boat (and Fantasy Island) airing on its usual channel (ABC) in its usual time slot (Love Boat: 9pm est, Fantasy Island: 10pm est). Its a crying shame, really.
