I used to watch this with my grandmother on occasion back in the early 80's. Today's cruise ships make this look more like a tug boat rather than a luxury cruise liner.
Monk is garbage and yes it does have a paper thin script. The actors are not that interesting and the OCD storyline gets buried with grossly moronic humor.
The old USA Network was far superior. Up All Night was a blast to watch every weekend, and Rhonda Shear is actually a very intelligent woman whose Rhonda character was loved by many. Now the USA has gone down the toilet with tons of sensationalized cop shows and lifeless Monk reruns. No one watches it now except you.
@cheapcape: For connoisseurs of shitty TV, yeah, sure-for the rest of us, not so much. I guess that's what happens when you've been on top as a nation for so long; something like 9/11 comes along, you can't cope, and then you come up with stupidities like finding comfort in reruns of Love Boat instead of getting off of your asses and making your government make your lives better. Typical sheeple.
@Neville6000 You are the sheeple if you don't realize 911 was an inside job. Fear-mongering shows are based largely on hype, not fact, so it's hardly dumbed down to choose cheerful programs instead of shows that prey on our gullibility. How do sensationalized programs like Law & Order make our lives better when all they do is keep everyone living in fear? The truth is people are fed up with it and want to go back to LIVING their lives again. People like you dwell in fear and hate and that's sad.
@cheapcape: Yet you probably watched all of the cop shows/lawyer shows/private eye shows of that era and ate them up as if you're eating a candy bar. Who are you to be calling L&O 'sensationalist fear-mongering'? And how do you justify Love Boat as being realistic and not sensationalist compared to L&O? All this shows is that you're addicted to nostalgia due to 9/11 and its aftereffects, plus now instead of challenging things, you're parotting conspiracy bullshit. Who's in fear? You are.
@Neville6000 Indeed you are gullible and brainwashed by these sensationalized programs. The difference between The Love Boat and Law& Order is that TLB never claimed to be realistic, but L&O does have this claim. If you believe everything you see on t L&O, you are gullible.
Apparently you swallow up anything politicians and news people throw at you (i.e. terrorists and predators are all over the place), so you again are dumbed down to believe all that crap.
@cheapcape: My mind is fine, sir; I'm not brainwashed by any means at all, since I don't watch a lot of TV nowadays. I have a few shows I like, and that's what I watch. I also don't 'believe anything politicians and news people throw at you (i.e. terrorists and predators are all over the place)' either-I'm just as skeptical of that as you say you are. What I don't do is watch old shows like this and believe that I can go on a cruise ship and find true love.
@Neville6000 Continuing - The truth is the crime rate has lowered plenty in the last few decades. But since the media earns big profits off of gullible minds like yours, they want you to believe otherwise. This is why we see network TV over-saturated with these hyped up crime shows every night. You, the dumbed down people, keep taking the bait and that is the REAL reason why we are in such bad shape today. Fortunately, more people are waking up and realizing how bad the media has become.
@Neville6000 Continuing - Therefore, people are making a wiser choice to watch programs that don't instill phantom fears in them because they are realizing most of the media's fear-mongering is a profit-driven scam.
Yes indeed The Love Boat, even if corny, was a more honest program than Law & Order is. How is it I live in fear when I just explained to you I don't buy into all that fear-mongering? You are the one who watches Law & Order and CSI and other fear-based programs, not I.
@cheapcape: Only Monk is suicidal: the CSI people are okay mentally and emotionally, as are the NCIS people, the L&O people, and all of the other cops on the other cop shows-again, where you get this from, I don't know. And dealing with reality in the form of cop shows is better than escaping reality aboard cruise ships growing numbers of Americans can't afford (when was the last time you saw young people on board a cruise ship looking for love?)
@Neville6000 You see, you don't get it. CSI, L&O, NCIS are all based largely on hype rather than facts, I happen to know this. Therefore, this invasion of cop shows with depressing elements and fear-mongering are really what dumbs people down. Gullible minds like yours swallow up all these exaggerated plots because they are stimulating. Again, in the era The Love Boat aired, comedy and drama programs didn't have to depend on such elements because frankly, we were wiser then.
@jmjfanss No they don't. You need to do some research and learn the about the fact that crime rates have fallen over the last few decades. CSI and other hyped up cop shows want you to believe the opposite because it's good for ratings. There aren't thousands of murders and rapes going on every day. Let's get real.
@equesfuscus Wrong. LEGITIMATE statistics show that the crimes you see on CSI are at their lowest point since the seventies. You need to stop watching so much NBC and CNN. Gather some real facts and then you'll know just how sensationalized those networks truly are. CSI even has a trivial video game out now, which proves even more that it's about profits, not truth. Actually, TV in the seventies were more realistic than TV is now.
@cheapcape Yes, I'm not arguing about the validity of CSI, which is hardly even watchable. I'm agreeing with you, but noting that crime statistics particularly went down in the 90s. They were in an upsurge in the 70s and 80s. It hasn't been a steady decrease. Now, let's be honest, too: TV in the 70s probably wasn't "more realistic", but we're generalizing.
@equesfuscus You see friend, the big media networks lie to you in order to grab ratings, just check out this whole "Osama Is Dead" fakery. Indeed, I read the statistics that show crimes like the ones CSI and Law & Order exploit are very low now, especially since these shows raised a lot of paranoia. Keep in mind that by law, the corporate media is allowed to lie as much as they please! The biggest danger we face now are fraudulent media companies and politicians preying on gullible minds.
@jmjfanss I disagree. The Love Boat had way better writers who didn't have to exploit fear in order to get higher ratings. We were not dumbed down then.
@mrcrymnd Lol! Yeah, I remember as a kid in the seventies these end credits were a sure sign that it was bed time, but sometimes I stayed up to watch the late movie :)
I can't believe that Canwest Global used to show this show all of the time, and I can't believe that Paramount Home Video/CBS Video can't get anything else but this crappy show on video when there are so many other shows in CBS Studio's vaults that could be put on DVD.
@cheapcape: People like you are proof positive that TV is a 'vast cultural wasteland' and also that America is being dumbed down, if you think that this POS is better than Mad Men, Monk, House M.D., Weeds, Dead Like Me, The L Word, the Law & Order franchise, or anything that came on TV in the last nine years. Enjoy your crap, then, but please don't EVER tell me or anybody else that you're an intelligent person-you're not.
@Neville6000 Actually I think it's quite the opposite. You belong to the dumbed down crowd. Monk and Weeds are intelligent shows, what? Law And Order is hyped up garbage set up to make a profit. You probably believe everything the media spits out at you too. Ever heard of sensationalism? It was kept to a minimum in the age this show came out, but has increased dramatically since. You are apparently quite gullible to eat up mass media fecal matter which again proves you are the dumbed down one.
@cheapcape:Sir/madame, I do not watch crappy TV shows and call myself a thinking, intelligent person, unlike you. I watch quality TV as much as I can, and I can safely say that Love Boat isn't. I suggest that you watch Mad Men, Monk, House M.D., Weeds, Dead Like Me, The L Word, etc and get a handle on what REAL QUALITY TV is, instead of gorging yourself on nostalgia because of 9/11 like most Americans are nowadays. Your mind will thank you.
@Neville6000 Sorry friend, but Monk and Weeds are not not quality programs at all. You are the one dumbed down. Many Americans watch those brain rot shows disguised as "intelligent" when in reality they are cheaply made, sensationalized with bad acting and paper-thin scripts. Indeed The Love Boat was a simpler program, but that's because it was made in a simpler and frankly, better time. I'll trade in gratuitous sex, violence, and moronic acting for a relaxing and romantic comedy show any day.
@cheapcape: Monk is not cheaply acted, nor does it have 'paper thin scripts'-it's about a man laid low by the murder of his wife, who decided to carry on regardless of the tragedy, being a cop. The plot's the same as that of Longstreet and another show with the same plot as Longstreet, except that Monk's not blind, but suffers form obsessive–compulsive disorder-which ironically helps him solve cases. If you think that Love Boat's better than this, YOU are in need of therapy, NOT me.

@Neville6000 Lol, you make it too easy. In an earlier post you called yourself a "thinking, intelligent person"? It's safe to say you're the ONLY one here buying into that fantasy. By even making such a claim, it's obvious you're overcompensating for either ignorance or inadequacy. *which is it??* Tell ya what, do us all a favor and stick with your "watching quality TV as much as I can" philosophy. The rest of us have a job to go to. ^_^ Thumbs up if anyone else agrees with me...
@TedStryker71: I'm not buying into fantasy half as much as you do watching this pile of crap, especially considering that most of you will never be able to afford a cruise ship with the 'salaries' (ha ha!) that most of you are paid in an America that's going down the tubes. And any 'romance' on these ships is of the one-night stand type, which involve waking up in the morning after a night of debauchery to find that the lady's pregnant, or that you've got an STD. Stay deluded, anyway.
@Neville6000 Half of what you see on Law & Order is fantasy too. Again, look up the word sensationalism and learn something. programs like that mix some truth with a lot of hype because it's the hype that rakes in profits nowadays (post 911), thanks to dummies like yourself who eat that stuff up. Programs like The Love Boat never depended on hype or fear-mongering to earn profits because people were satisfied watching it for the charm. Again, you are the dumbed down ones.
I remember watching the Love Boat (and Fantasy Island) on a regular basis every Sat. night back in the early-mid 1980s when it still was originally on the air. There was and is something so SOOTHING about the opening theme as well as each and every episode. Entertaining too. Saturday nights are just not the same these days without The Love Boat (and Fantasy Island) airing on its usual channel (ABC) in its usual time slot (Love Boat: 9pm est, Fantasy Island: 10pm est). Its a crying shame, really.
My God, classicphile, you took the words right out of my mouth...and opened up old memories, too! I also used to religiously watch these shows back-to-back every Saturday night as a teenager. Yeah, it IS a crying shame alright...Life is a teaser, as all one can do is yearn for those times. But, there's always the DVD collections, sans the commercials (which were, for the most part, much better than today's) and the simpler days, unfortunately!!!
"I also used to religiously watch these shows back-to-back every Saturday night as a teenager"
I was 17 years old when The Love Boat went off the air in 1986. The funny thing is that at the time the fact that I watched and loved both those shows was my most closely guarded and biggest well kept secret. Because a teenaged boy did NOT admit to his fellow teenagers that he loved watching The Love Boat and Fantasy Island :-)
amen my friend same here i rarely went to high school parties and being a jock/musician its hard for anyone to believe but basically was home saturday nights watching channel 7 KABC
when the fuck are ignorant people like yourself going to stop caring about ones sexual orintation who the fuck cares if someone is gay or not does it bother you because if it does you have a problem that better get taken care of and u claim to have a long dong? i bet its more like a cocktail frank
There were plenty of women too on the Love Boat! Dongless schmuck can't concede to the fact that the Love Boat was a harmonious appealing smooth show. It just makes me conjecture in a basal rudimentary fashion how you embellish deep in thought with your obsequiousness to your homosexual escapades with your bathhouse visits. Stop degrading this show with your senseless callous-minded garbage.
I am so sorry! :( I meant to post that comment on The Love Boat Opening Season 9, not on this video. I don't know how I ended up posting it here. My apologies.
I remember the "Love Boat" closing since I was a kid when it was in reruns on WPIX-TV. There was one logo that it was missing after that is the red Worldvision logo.
The backdrop for the "Love Boat" end credit display had always been the same for the entire series' run...a slowly rotating aerial view of the Pacific Princess cruise ship docked at port.
Well, somewhatlongdong, what mrceleb2006 said about the "...slowly rotating aerial..." falss into the category of TRIVIA. Deal with it. Also, learn to spell.
@A1l2l2e2n4: Yes A1l2l2e2n4, in those days, people had to get up on Sunday mornings to help with the cleaning of the house, mowing the lawn, doing the dishes, going to church, doing their homework, etc. Not everybody stayed up late to see Love Boat or Fantasy Island.
@Neville6000 Wrong. I was around in that era and most people watched The Love Boat and Fantasy Island to unwind after doing all those things, I know my family did. My parents usually went to bed after the second show, but since I was younger, I chose to stay up a while with my sister and watch the late movie. Obviously, TV was a lot better then.

You're right about that!!! But, I enjoyed those great shows while they lasted. To old times!!!

This end credit right is better than 99% of the shows that's on crap tv today. Cool intro & ending to one of my favorites The Love Boat.

This has been flagged as spam show
this is a program that caters to the interests of homosexuals and their ilk.
somewhatlongdong 3 years ago

There were plenty of women too on the Love Boat! Dongless schmuck can't concede to the fact that the Love Boat was a harmonious appealing smooth show. It just makes me conjecture in a basal rudimentary fashion how you embellish deep in thought with your obsequiousness to your homosexual escapades with your bathhouse visits. Stop degrading this show with your senseless callous-minded garbage.
DetroitLove4U 3 years ago
Here here! Just because the show is cheesy and has a lot of attractive people of both genders doesn't mean it appeals to homosexuals.

I think I prefer the end theme better than the opening. The classic synth used is inspiring and makes me nostalgic.

Anyone have the American version of this?

The "American" version???
This is the American version of the show.

I am so sorry! :( I meant to post that comment on The Love Boat Opening Season 9, not on this video. I don't know how I ended up posting it here. My apologies.
bigdon1966 3 years ago
:) That's okay...I was actually curious if there were other versions than the US original.

I love the theme music/song but was never a fan of the show itself.

question...when is the Love boat going to come out on DVD??? I want to own seasons' 1982-1986!
battechno 4 years ago
Season 1 Volume 1 will be released this coming March. CBS/Paramount has a practice of dividing a full season into two volumes.

@battechno: If there is any sense of mercy or justice in this existence, there won't be any more seasons on DVD at all.

I remember the "Love Boat" closing since I was a kid when it was in reruns on WPIX-TV. There was one logo that it was missing after that is the red Worldvision logo.

me too growing up in the nyc area
retroguy1976 4 years ago
This wasn't a rerun ...so therefore there wouldn't have been a red Worldvision logo.

The backdrop for the "Love Boat" end credit display had always been the same for the entire series' run...a slowly rotating aerial view of the Pacific Princess cruise ship docked at port.
mrceleb2006 4 years ago
do you really feel like that is an important contribution to this discussion. what you're saying is the reflection of an imbicile.
somewhatlongdong 4 years ago
Yes, I'm dead serious. It's a fact, dude!
mrceleb2006 4 years ago
that's nice, but anyone who would care about that is a tool
somewhatlongdong 4 years ago
I believe you spelled imbecile wrong, moron.
lmao
plutaris33 4 years ago
Well, somewhatlongdong, what mrceleb2006 said about the "...slowly rotating aerial..." falss into the category of TRIVIA. Deal with it. Also, learn to spell.

This theme music meant it was my bedtime when I was 8.
chitownhowie 4 years ago 2
what is your bed time now?
somewhatlongdong 4 years ago
No kidding? On Saturday nights you had to go to bed at 9 PM Eastern time/8 PM Central time? You mean you didn't even get to watch "Fantasy Island"?
A1l2l2e2n4 3 years ago
@A1l2l2e2n4: Yes A1l2l2e2n4, in those days, people had to get up on Sunday mornings to help with the cleaning of the house, mowing the lawn, doing the dishes, going to church, doing their homework, etc. Not everybody stayed up late to see Love Boat or Fantasy Island.
Neville6000 1 year ago
@Neville6000 Wrong. I was around in that era and most people watched The Love Boat and Fantasy Island to unwind after doing all those things, I know my family did. My parents usually went to bed after the second show, but since I was younger, I chose to stay up a while with my sister and watch the late movie. Obviously, TV was a lot better then.
