I'm not knocking the fact that it sounds amazing. At no point have I belittled or knocked the fact that it SOUNDS incredible. My entire point has been that it requires fuck all of the dedication, talent and ability that true turntablism takes! Even fucking mixing "Oh look, a CUE button. It's taken me 2-3 years to get where I am with turntablism and I've still barely scratched the surface of whats possible. Given a quarter of that time I guarantee that anyone with a microgram of talent and a basic understanding of the software and hardware could be as good as Jag.

To make a simple analogy, you're basically saying that someone who's good at Street Fighter is better at Kung Fu than Bruce Lee.

Go fuck yourself. Digital kit does all the complex work, and fixes fuckups on the fly.

Try around 400 GBP/600-700USD for a second hand set-up. My decks cos me 200 of our british pounds, and my soundcraft Urei battle mixer was about the same.

Many DVS's are still too slow for most of the faster scratch DJ's.

What JaguarSkills does is push buttons and turn dials. It counts time sigs for him, quantizes any digital music selection, applies effects with quantized parameters.

@fagSZRvideos It's usually the way it works. People who use serato/CD's/mp3's tend to have their entire music library with them at all times. They delve in and pick whatever out of their however-many-thousand song libraries, and 9 times out of ten its not as good a choice as the guy who's had to carefully select 20 records (cos that's all he can fit in his bag) using a physical, tangible and regularly emotionally driven set of choices. I'm just generalising here though. Not everyone is the same!

Yeah, sadly its looking more and more like I'm not going to be physically able to continue being a vinyl-junkie AND play new tracks... More and more labels are going for digital release only on everything apart from the biggest dancefloor tracks. Did you know that since the mid 90's there are now only something like 10% of the independant vinyl selling records stores left in the UK too? Sad times man, sad times - record shop culture was amazing...

And why does it matter whether Jag claims to be a turntablist or not?! People hear it and assume that it IS turntablism a lot of the time, thereby detracting from the godlike icons that are DJ Fly, QBert, Shadow, Izoh, Kentaro, Netik, A-Trak... I could go on all day....

Anyone with a few thousand pounds could go out, buy all this kit and within a year of having bought it all, be playing sets around Jags standard.

It's nothing special is my point. Turntablism IS.

Thats without even starting on beat juggling. Digital kit is cop-out.

And I have no problem with DJ's who don't use vinyl. Granted, I personally am a purist. Vinyl DJ's play better sets than CD/Serato DJ's a lot of the time, because they have to organise a physical set. Its a more emotionally attached process than selecting an mp3, or skipping CD tracks.

The stuff JagSkills does is, while sounding phenomenally technical and clever, actually very simple. Any mug with a basic understanding of the bits of kit could record something half as good in about a week of practice.
