Our effectiveness in the entire region will only become evident with the pasage of time. I mean look Japan and Germany took at east a decade fully embrace democracy. Iraq has no traditon for it and will thus evolove slowly but will smeday reach the goal as long as we dont give up on them as some want to right now. Respectfully: My issue is that we went to war based on lies and misinformation. I am no scholar, but it seems to be that Iraq is better off on their own. Let them divide into three self-governing states/ countries to please the locals. Concentrate on stopping the druf traffic in Afghan. and build bridges to all the peoples of the region. Cordially.

Unfortunately you are right about the Kurds however Turkey is a valuable strategic ally and though it pains me to say it sometimes political reality outweighs morality, I would not want to be the one making the decisions because I have a great respect for the Kurdish people who have suffered greatly under many different sources from the Turkish authorities to Saddam Hussein and indeed my own government.
