  • hahaha was that george lucas???

  • This song is special for me when I see it sung by the different ethnic groups who make up this country. Only then is it truly a song of joy, solidarity, and compassion. Go Pete! May our generation have artist like him!

  • Pete Seeger, still standing up for what he beleives in.

  • wow LOL

  • I don`t know, what think all the poeple? Who is Obama, what is Obama? Sorry, but he is ONLY A US-PRESIDENT!!!!! Not more, other poeple say him what he can do!!!

  • Like Springsteen says, ' Lead us Pete'.

  • It's a good thing that Obama ended our wars like he promised! It'd be really disappointing if he ramped up existing ones and got us into new ones.

  • Occupy Wall Street , take your country back from those criminals and then finally give us our independence and freedom, solidarity from Puerto Rico. !!! Long live Pete Seeger !!!

  • As an former Veteran and an American citizen. I support the U.S. government should be overthrown, by the people for the people.

  • very nice moment :-)

  • But Obama go to others wars.... No good...

    SOCIALISM NOW !

  • This machine kills fascists

  • My bloody hero Pete Seeger...

  • you have elected a Pirate to your most high & Auspicious place, and still You expect some form of reverence from this Pirate. wow to the unwary.

    Thom in Scotland.

  • was that "ObaMa" I just seen there nodding his head in time with this music ? !, He no more believes in this sound than he believes in your wrights as Americans or human-beings you will be witness to this. 1 & all.

    Thom in Scotland.

  • Thank you Pete, you make me feel that there is hope in life.

  • @sosoathomeworking Pete I love you but Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

  • Wow -CHRIS HOLLY plays "This Land" in protest of Gibson gtr factory raid for HERMAN CAIN at SC town Hall

  • Thank God that obama is going to save the republic....ya, right...ROFLOL

  • Pete is a national treasure!

  • wow

  • As much as I like Pete Seegers musical work, I would have thought this actual song is a little callous for him.

  • @jshkendra um, why?

  • @inkblackRose It has nothing to do with race but that is where he is putting America at the back of the bus.

  • This choir is singing outstandly! Very powerful voices!

  • I read the comments and I hear your voices and your frustration and share the same. Yet I don't blame Obama - he has/had in his core vision, ethics and great intentions. He gave us a glimmer of hope and we hung on. But he was pulled under by misguided politicos who told him to stay the course... that is mild and moderate, conciliatory, if not apologetic .... and not at all in keeping with his true vision. We lost a great opportunity, but he will always have been and is a great man.

  • Pete Seeger is an awesome man. Too bad he wound up performing for a president who despite all the hope we had, turned out to be just one more corporate fascist New World Order type. That's not Pete's fault and we know that Pete was performing for our nation and not for Obama anyway, Blessings unto Pete. As to Obama, I'd like to see him replaced By a Ron Paul/Jesse Ventura President/VP combo in 2012. I voted for Obama and I apologize to all for that, though I think Mcain would have sucked too.

  • @heartfire451 I could not have said it better - I feel so tricked - we have declared war on yet another country. Bless Pete

  • @heartfire451

Well said, Ron Paul is my candidate too...

  • I hate Obama. I hated Bush, but Obama had some good singers at his innaugeration.

  • @HalfBornUnicornFetus Damn right he did.

  • @RealTime88

Maybe Ron Pauls innaugeration in 2013 will be better ;)

  • @HalfBornUnicornFetus Don't count on it :)

  • @neosoc

    We never know :)

  • @HalfBornUnicornFetus We sure do. There's no place in the White House for someone who goes by their beliefs (whatever they may be). Plus, I'd vote for Lex Luthor and Norman Osborn running on the same ticket, before I voted for someone with economic and social policies as bugfuck insane as those of Ron Paul.

  • All you fascists bound to lose.

  • Click to see Bruce falling on Oprah. Liar!

  • hd= hijo de una gran puta

  • Awesome song, but it get's harder and harder to sing along as time goes on it seems.

  • I'll keep my freedom, guns and money you can keep the change!!!! RICK PERRY 2012!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jshkendra Go to Somalia. fascist fuck.

  • @jshkendra Fuck rick perry. ron paul 2012.

  • @weedfiend1000 He can't win!!!!!!!!!

  • @weedfiend1000 Ron Paul ? Why would any rational person want and Anarcho-Capitalist as President ? Bernie Sanders for President not Ron Paul.

  • @777Atheist Here here!

  • @777Atheist Ain't that the truth!

  • Pantara

  • How the negative posters on here can think they know more about this song than Bruce Springsteen or Pete Seeger is beyond me, I'm not American but they are, and they have a proven record of writing songs, therefore knowing the meaning of the songs,

Happy 4th to all Americans, thank your god you're not British !!

  • @MegaSugarlump You were doing well until you got to the anti-Brit comment. Really, the Revolutionary War ended some time ago; the US and Britain have been friends for some time. I'm not British or American, but I just don't see the point of your comment. In many ways, England went far more progressive than the US for some time. I love these guys, and they probably would agree with me.

  • @bartonim sorry , i was meaning the state our goverment has got us in, but then again, that could be any goverment in any country at this time, it's just that in Britain we don't have the patriotic spirit that the US have, or should that be just England,

The comment wasn't meant to be USA against UK, my fault for not making it clear.

Still one of my favourite songs though :-))

  • @MegaSugarlump okay, I guess I jumped the gun! Thanks for clearing that up!

  • @bartonim No problem :-)) good luck and best wishes Arthur :-))

  • @bartonim I just tried to send you a pm explaining my comment, you have friends only , i sent an invitation, i hope you accept, you talk a lot of sense :-)) sorry again for the misunderstanding regarding my comment on here

  • only ones duped are those supporting republicans. if u were a believer in them before- surely, just surely- anyone with the remotest of common sense would be incensed by there actions in recent years

  • I really hope pete seeger and springstein regret being dupe by that murderer obama. This video is fucking weird.

  • Pete Seeger....Cheers for my favourite video ever.

  • We've got no jobs now

    They've all been outsourced

    Millions are homeless

    In cardboard boxes

    But don't lose hope now

    We still have Walmart

This land belongs to Goldman Sachs.

  • Where's the HD Video. 480p is not HD. If you click on that stupid red banner that says click here to see it in HD you get taken to some video by some lame person singing a song that has nothing to do with this song or video.

  • "This Land is Your Land" was my favorite song when I was about 8, and it still inspires me!! Thank you,

  • happy days

  • Just great. Pete Seeger was blacklisted for being a communist. But finally he did a song by Woody Guthrie before the president of the United States

  • I guess all the people who are worried about poor little old capitalism have been treated great by the banks and the plutocrats. I guess they are rich, so this makes them angry. This day and this song were for the rest of us, the vast majority who are getting screwed. This is about we the people, not we the dollars. It's about democracy. If Obama had remembered this and led from this place, we would be in much better shape today.

  • Look at his poll numbers on the economy. I think he is out in 2012. It was a hallmark feel good moment for the country then he actually had to do the job. I don't want a rock star president I just want a president.

  • Behold. The true spirit of America.

  • people of united states of america!i love them!

  • @ 1:47 that's George Lucas :D

  • "...on the other side it didn't say nothin'...that side was made for you and me"...never thought I'd hear that verse in the US on such a stage as this....just wonderful that I did. Cheers Pete.

  • This is an anti-private-property-anti-capitalist anthem and not supposed to be sung in such an occasion. WTF.

  • @john8888hk GOD BLESS AMERICA sung by Kate SMith is my song . This song was written in protest of GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!! It is a protest song these dumb libs got what they wanted and their singing a protest song. IT is an anti-private-property anti capitalist anthem it fits to a tea with Obummer!!!!!!!!!!

  • you're the nigger with the opposition you would like white

  • @Zjinks1 .............................................. HOW CAN YOU MAKE SUCH A DESPICABLE POST ??? AND when I clicked on your youtube screen name I read that you wrote you're going to Afghanistan in a week? Who and what are you fighting for? There "may" well be a black soldier or two by your side that could possibly save your life? YOUR use of the "N" word is simply awful. And you're 25 years olde? Grow up kid. And quit acting like the ignorant fool !

  • I cannot believe that they would play this at an inauguration... it's an ironic protest song about how terrible this land can be to its citizens.

  • @BlissfullAwareness it was made during the great depression which the bush administration alomost made happen for a second time. Your a fuckin fool to think that they shouldn't sing this song at an innaguration after that stupid fucker left. Plus it's one of the greatest songs that was ever made.

  • LOVE

  • I´m happy very much to see Mr.Seeger still singing. I love him to much. God bless him!.

  • hear the words and think about it..............its not who is doing the singing its about us and what we have to do to get back to the point that this land was made for you and me

  • Pete Seeger is an awesome dude - watch "The Power of Song"

  • ich bin eurpäer, aber ich bin von diesem moment und diesem song tief bewegt.

    may god bless america!

    .

  • Beautiful.

  • take this song to heart today people .....

  • We all should take these lyrics to heart and live them in our lives.

  • Gonna add a new verse to this song now:

As I was shopping, in the cold big box store,

with my Starbucks cap and burger handy,

I was guided, by the shinning light of

    the corporate advertising,

This land is your land, oh rich and the few,

Guide us onward with your saintly wisdom,

You get the generals, to keep you in power,

This land was made for you alone!

  • @bubb3432 <3

  • @bubb3432 The verse at 2:03 is supposed to say that in a 1930s way. I totally agree with you though, the people do not control the government.

  • @bubb3432 Folk singers of this era are the worst hypocrites this nation has ever seen. They get rich singing about how great it is to be poor and oppressed! So in your little verse you created here, you need to include a line about capitalist pig musicians!

  • Woody Guthrie needs a greater place in American culture, where would Bob Dylan have been without Woody?

  • that annotation is a horrible something

  • do we need to discuss everybody's values and beliefs? its a damn good song and makes me feel proud to be an american. Lets leave it at that, or should we continue the "american" way and argue about what everybody should believe in.

  • *sigh* such optimism on that day evoked by this song -- unfortunately the reality is "this land was made for Goldman Sachs"

  • My mama told me about Pete and Mahalia and Johnny Cash, and tought me their music and ideas, and I'm still gratefull for that. It's a great, great herritage!! What wonderfull people.

  • Thank you for uploading.

    Beautiful and emotional.

    God bless America.

  • is it just me or is anyone suspicious of zorbazig because he is from Switzerland?

    ; )

  • @getsomelead You rascal !!! ;-) I'm NOT a banker !!! Much rather just one more victim of those craps !... My compliment here is totally sincere and I was already listening to Pete Seeger when you were still a drop of sperm in your father's balls ! I should sue you for defamation and international outrage !.. ;-D No, I prefer to go and listen to the Rolling Stones or Oscar Peterson... No hard feelings, boy ! :)

  • I wonder if they still sing this in public schools?

  • @jsessa510 yes, my son sings it in chorus

  • @jotafq Pete Seeger is a great American. He actually believes that government is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people. Imagine. I know you crazed right wingers think government is only supposed to benefit the rich and the corporate elite. But believe it or not, it used to be that government actually tried to work for the public good. Nowadays, any attempt to do that is met by crazed denunciations and accusations of being a "commie." Good men & women are shouted down.

  • @mightymissk ..some solid truth there my friend. Well said.

  • @Lennon4life1968 Why thank you honey. I usually get messages from right wing loons, calling me everything except a threat to navigation. What a treat.

  • @mightymissk Very well said! You know Pete Seeger was blacklisted for being a commie because he dared to speak his mind.

  • @mightymissk YES so is Woody Guthrie and his son Arlo Guthrie and his children!!

  • @mightymissk YES so is Woody Guthrie and his son Arlo Guthrie and his children!! YESSSSSSSSSSSS Nobody living can ever make me turn back ......this land was land was made for you and me.

  • @AliceMarr

Actually, Arlo is a republican, though a moderate one. Not sure Woody would approve

  • @jotafq You arent even a 1/4 of the man Seeger is.

  • nice to see him perform...amazing how he outlived so many to perform there

  • And for the political argument down there, just a note: when a society loses it's ability to question it's own, it will simultaneously lose it's autonomy.

Demonizing people who disagree with yours or "America's" view of how things should be, is perhaps the most un American thing one could do. Our country was born (the revolution), shaped (the civil war, civil rights movement, woman's suffrage, etc), and tested (WWI, WWII, cold war) based on our right to question even the most core of beliefs.

  • I was there, it was one of the very few times in my life where everybody was with each other, we were all there for one purpose and we had hope for the future, instead of dreading the day. I'm 21 and I grew up in NYC, so 9/11 impacted me quite deeply and I know many that passed away, but perhaps the only great thing to come of it was that it created a shared togetherness that was short, but so precious. This concert, during this song, I felt the same way.

  • What a great voice Pete's grandson has! Sing it out, Tao!

  • The guy on the left of the screen (or, on Pete Seeger's right-hand side) is Tao Rodríguez-Seeger, Pete's grandson. He's on Wikipedia and other resources, lookimup! :)

  • does anyone know the guy ont he left side?

out of the 3 guys playing the guitar and banjo

whose the guy on the left side?

it would really help if anyone could answer this question

please send me a message to my account on youtube

  • this moment will stay with me forever, standing in the freezing cold with no gloves but not caring about it at all. the vibe was unbelivable, to see so much hope and happyness in such bleek times

  • Woodstock in winter =)

  • Seems someone forgot to disable adding annotations to this vid... I couldn't see a 10 times better HD vid of this with that link, and it's annoying to come to another vid I didn't wanna watch just by clicking on the vid to pause it.

  • i simply love it !

  • Agreed...... Pete Seeger is an international treasure.

May I recommend his recordings and those with the Weavers to all young people who may not be familiar with them.

Also the beautiful Weavers Reunion DVD

  • How come Bruce Springsteen always ruins it for everyone?

  • There were greater hopes then.

  • till zionist came

  • Great to see Americans come together without having to wrap themselves up in a flag and spew forth the standard cliches. Pete Seeger is an international treasure.

  • Wow, I am amazed at how you weirdos can spoil this great rendition of such a great song...

  • This day and this song particularly will be remembered as one of the GREATEST MOMENTS in American History - the best of the United States ! (from Switzerland)

  • @zorbazig As someone who voted for Obama, I wish I could agree with you, my friend. He's been nothing but a big disappointment. Every time the Fascists on the Right challenge him, he just backs down.

  • @zorbazig big AGREE on that sentiment! wonderful frosty hopeful day!

  • great song!

    (Facebook: Felicita Esküvői Ruhaszalon)

  • Le jour ou l'Amérique est devenue moins con !

  • As I listen to this wonderful song, I just can't help but wonder if MILLIONAIRE SOCIALIST Bruce Springsteen would mind if myself and a few dozen of my friends would come and "camp out" on HIS land for a few weeks. If the land belongs to all of us, then why not? How long do you think that would last? Bruce Springsteen is one of the LIMOSINE LIBERALS who think that only wealthy showbiz types should be allowed to have money and private property. He's a hypocrite of the same magnitude of Al Gore.

  • @Toober1969 Not everyone who makes a million has to mutate into a self interested brainless arsehole.

  • @Toober1969 surely if anything you should be looking up to bruce as what he has done is live the american dream, god given talents plus hard work = reward, and in the capitalist system that = money. the difference is he has not lost his humanity along the way or lived a wasted lifestyle , but instead remembered where he's come from and given back when and where he can. you guys don't get that he is a patriot with a brain. the rest of the world gets it. appreciate the man.

  • @holitipu Thanks for your THOUGHTFUL response (they are rare on here).I respect your point-of-view, however, I disagree.Through his music (which I don't find that great),he praises Marxist themes and anti-American sentiment--and then he flies home on his private jet and jumps in his jaccuzzi located on the third floor of his multi-million-dollar mansion.Yet he owes his entire success to the same system he loves so dearly to trash. And I've never heard anything intelligent come out of his mouth.

  • @Toober1969

You are not an anti-american if your critizise the US version of state capitalism. There are better forms of market economies with lower absolute child poverty, lower food insecurity, cheaper and more efficient health care with lower administration costs, lower crime rate, free education etc. Like the swedish model. The majority of the american people has seen its real income stagnate for more then 30 years. Critizising that is not being anti-american and marxist. Come on.

  • Comment removed

  • @Endstation You at least present an intelligent argument. However, I don't think Springsteen is protesting just the "U.S. version of capitalism." I think he (and other left-wing entertainers) are protesting capitalism in general, a system that has made them all VERY wealthy. I find them very hypocritical. I can't say honestly that I'm familiar with Springsteen's personal life, but I'm willing to bet that it is very inconsistent with the socialistic principles that he preaches.

  • @Toober1969

OK. You may think that. But you don't have any evidence to support your opinion. Bruce has never been a marxist.

  • @Toober1969

Anyway, if Bruce would be anti capitalist (wich he is not), why would that be wrong? Why can't you be against a system that made your rich?

  • @Toober1969

Most CEOs in the US are pro free market, but many (most) of them became rich because of the US government investment in R&D (which brought us the internet, computers, airplanes, high quality transistors, lasers, medicines etc.), infrastructure, education, tariffs, government supported patent monopolies etc. If you are a free marketer, why do you walk on publicly owned streets?

  • @Toober1969

I recommend you to read the following books (think you would find them interesting):

    1. Unjust Deserts by Garl Alperovitz

    2. State of innovation by Fred Block

    3. Bad Samaritans by Ha Joon Chang

    4. 27 things they don't tell you about capitalism by Ha Joon Chang

also read Dean Bakers blog Beat The Press.

  • @Toober1969

Another good book is Making Mondragon: The Growth and Dynamics of the Worker Cooperative Complex by William Whyte, and teh forthcoming Beyond the Corporation by David Erdal

  • This kool-aid is your kool-aid--- we are all getting fooled again----

  • Even though he is a rotten communist, I still like his music.

  • @mikemantel Pete Seeger was never a Stalinist or supporter of Communism as it manifested in China. He is a believer in the great spirit and goodness in all people and that all people are deserving of a dignified life. He is a believer that a nations government has a responsibility to its people to help fulfill this. While you may disagree, this makes him a kind caring human. Nothing more and nothing less. You can not erase that no matter how ugly your own name calling spirit may be.

  • @sukie584 your absolutly right, and to add to the irony of mikemantels comment pete has been heavily involved with keeping native american roots in american tradition...its so funny though, he is a legend but if u ever talk to him in person he is the most down to earth man you will ever meet...90 years old a going, thank you pete

  • when i see people in the audience being that happy and hopeful, i nearly get tears in my eyes.

  • YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING!

Barry Soetoro, CIA agent, AKA "Barack Obama" wants people ARRESTED

who believe "This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land".

EVERY SINGLE CABINET MEMBER IS GOLDMAN SACHS or WALL STREET!

THEY THINK "This Land is THEIR LAND!"

ALL the old hippies CAN'T BE THAT DUMB!

  • What happened in november?

  • @jshkendra because stupid people vote stupidly

  • @BBBOBBYful Hey liked you guys did by electing obama in 08 what has he done. He has racked up more debt that from President washington to reagan.

  • i wish i was american sometimes...such great artists

  • @c64c64c64 be careful what you wish for

  • @han003 lol

  • @c64c64c64 You can certainly have this old commie shit.

  • obama a wonderfull biracial prez.

  • November 2, 2010 ! :=)  The dream is lost ! ouafffffffffffff

  • @ifp57 Oh, sure. In Pete Seeger Land it's always either/or. If you get annoyed by two poseurs pretending to be woikin men it means that you admire Donald Trump and Wall Street bankers. What other conclusion could you come to? Yes... I see what you mean. I better clap along with the crowd or people might think I favor bailouts to fatcats which, come to think of, is what Pete's Presidential friend is in favor of.

  • @pariahpete Ok i see where you are coming from. Interestingly for a guy that does not like Pete Seeger you sure do whatch a lot of his vids. i guess secondly is you call them "two poseurs pretending to be woikin men" Are you trying to say that songs like the The River and Big Muddy have no revelence to "woikin men" To that i shall just say what is your alternative? Jail them for speaking the truth?

Hmm.....not related to a guy called Macarthy are you

  • @ifp57 Ah, yes. The old McCarthy angle. It's that either/or, again. McCarthy was an evil demagogue. Pete copped a First Amendment plea in front of the HUAC. He asserted his rights as an American Citizen. Bravo! The supreme irony is that The First and Fifth Amendments wouldn't exist in a Dictatorship of the Proletariat where the individual is subordinate to the Collective. That's the world Pete wanted for everybody. It's a place where people weren't just jailed... they were shot.

  • @ifp57 No no no We do not want to see people who support slimy old commie shits like Pete Segar arrested. We just wish that people would have the good sense to recognize that he is a scumbag who should be rejected, ostracized, and ignored. Giving honor to sub-human sewage like him is wrong, wrong, and more wrong.

  • @ifp57 We watch scum like seegar because we want to see what the enemy is up to.

  • @pariahpete So because Pete marched with the Communist party in the 30s, because they were the only party taking a stand again segregation, hes the same as Stalin...nice bullshit strawman argument ya got there

  • @antipyrene In the 30s many intellectuals joined the Communist Party. The Party stood against segregation and fascism. That was good. Pete's involvement was understandable in the middle of the Depression. What he failed to do was renounce the Party during Stalin's regime when millions were being shipped to the Gulags. He actually joined the Communist Party in 1942, after Hitler invaded The USSR. He was a pacifist for the first 2 years of WWII, ignoring the holocaust and Europe in flames.

  • @pariahpete I will admit that some intellectuals in the 30"s joined the CPA out of good intentions. Doing this was not evil but was grossly irresponsible. At least 20 million died under the reign of Lenin. American CPA members were blind to this. seegar did not turn against the Soviet Union until the 90s. He is without any excuse. He is pure shit.
