I remember this song, I was a little kid when I first heard it and even though I cant understand a single word I love it and now listening to it after 20 years is amazing. Thanks for the translation. Greetings from Albania.
I'm sorry that Germany didn't give any points. This song is full of life and I would have loved to see this song winning the contest. Same with Israel in 1983. I don't get it, why those two song did'nt make it to the top. :-(
Please Israel, come back with those kind of songs!!!
Should have won ... have you noticed how the 3 countries who didn't give this song any points are Austria,Germany,Italy .... that has a certain connection to it ....
I liked that song and Turkey gave 12 points as we muslim Turks we believe in peace
I wish zionist jews would change their minds on innocent paletinians and stop invade their lands gardaully and let the peace capture all over the middle east
What about innocent kurdistan my friend? How many of them turkish goverment kills every day? What will happends if Israel will "help" them to get freedom? Ask your self these questions.
je comprends pas le texte de cette chanson, mais elle est vraiment belle ! J'avais 6 ans quand je l'ai écoutée pour la première fois ! Félicitation Israël 1991 !
After 20 years I have heard the song again, amazing ... I recall the words but I never did understand them ... I was 14 years old then ... greetings from Serbia
Nowdays songs with strong ethnic colors like this one doesn't get voted anymore but eurovision has turned into a commercial flop anyway. For me this is one of the best entries that music contest have ever had. And not simply because it's a nice memory from my childhood...(I was 7 yrs old at the time) The blonde girl looks lovely, beautiful music, very well arranged choreography. Greetings from Albania!
omg finally i found it :)...yes it is true that it was the first eurovision after the fall of comunism in Albania and i remember it very well. was 7 at that time and used to love it....wish i cld understan the lyrics tho
@durresdurres1 HERE Here is my home, here I was born On the plain which is by the shore. Here are the friends who I grew up with And I have no other place in the world. I have no other place in the world. Here is my home, here I played in the lowland which is near the mountain here I drank water from the well and planted grass in the desert and planted grass in the desert.
@durresdurres1 Chorus: Here I was born here my children were born to me. here I built my house - with my own two hands here, you're also with me and here are all of my thousand friends and after 2,000 years - my wanderings are over. Here I played all of my songs and went on a night journey here in my youth I defended the land of my God x2 Here I set my table A piece of bread, a fresh flower I opened the door to my neighbors And whoever comes, we'll greet “Ahalan!*” x2
Don't remember any song from Eurovision , that didn't win- but I remmeber this one- good enough that I was able to find it on You tube 20 years later- without knowing its name nor the name of this charming couple.
I was from Yugoslavia back than ( Serbia now) and remember my country gave to this song max points back than. I couldn't agree more. Don't understand the lyrics but its cheerful, lively and I like it even today :)

It came third, behind Carola from Sweden and Amina from France. But the song almost won, and it was supposed to win the ESC 1991. It is the Italian jury's decision to boycott it at the last minute which changed the outcome of the contest.....
This should have won in 1991 - and it looked like the winner till the very last minutes of the voting ! ( Watch the voting 1991 on YouTube) Sad greetings from Germany...I know what we´ve done and I´m ashamed.
Hello! Thank you for posting this beautiful song in here. I love it even though I don't understand what they're saying. The music is beautiful. I was a kid when I listened to it for the first time at the Eurovision 1991 and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was so mad when the lady from SWEDEN (I believe her name was Karola) won because I truly wanted this couple to be the winners. Regards for U.S.A.
I love Orna and Moshe Datz and their songs. And this is special. I like that the song tells a story. I love Israel and I'm sad that media today is so false about Israel. They need more support from people around theese days than ever before. So...Shalom to all of Israel from me and my family from Finland. :)
And yes, this song should have won the 1991 contest. It was actually supposed to be the winner.....until some voting committees were "unpleased" by the translation they received.....
Jews come from all of the world now back to Israel, but this man is named Moshe and just looking at his face you know that he is a jew. :) All my blessings to that family!
Israel should have won the 1991 contest. Orna & Moshe Datz did not win only because of political reasons, as was even explained in the Italian newspaper "Corriere della sera" the following day. But this is not so important anyway.... What it terribly sad about this song is that the very gifted composer and lyricist died in 2004 from a heart attack at 52 :-(
The day before the contest, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera announced that Israel would almost surely win. Contrary to the report, the Italian jury gave Israel 0 point instead of the anticipated 12..... According to the report, the decision to boycott Israel's entry was due to the "too patriotic" nature of the song and to an allusion made to the Palestinians. It is interesting to note that the only 3 countries to give this song 0 points were Germany, Austria and Italy.
The Hebrew word "kan" means "here". In the first stanza Orna Datz sings "Here is my home, here I was born, in the plain along the sea. Here are the friends with whom I grew up. And I have no other place in the world." In the final stanza, they sing "Here I set my table, a piece of bread and a fresh flower. I opened my door to the neighbors, and to those who come I will say Hello".
With no political interference, the 1992 ESC would have taken place in Jerusalem.
Très belle chanson ! Rien à dire ISRAEL tu es unique ! pays très puissant dans tous les domaine, ISRAÊL est pousuivie par des jaloux ! ne feront pas face car DIEU est avec ! GOG BLESS ISRAEL / FRANCE / MAROC.
This is a masterclass and blueprint for any Eurovison entry. Amazing song, choreographed, the correct half tune up in the end but before the last chorus. The chorus coming out and in front to form a beautiful choreographed line and in different clothes. What can one say. Israel only perfected the formula from the winning entry of "Halleluja" which apart from ABBA's winning is the masterful serenity and superiority...
Is true, this was the first eurovision festival after the fall of comunism in Albania.I remember very well this song even was years ago,but was my favorite.Very happy to listen it again.Regards from Albania....
Shalom from another Albanian. A really really great song. Brings me back in time, with a very pleasant nostalgy. Great job Israel. Brotherly greetings.

Hi from Iceland I hope someone here can help me. I have been looking for a few years of Eurovision on cd the years i am serching for are 1956 untill 1985. If someone wants to help me please feel free to contact me. Thank you
Toda la razón, esta canción marcó una época de mi vida. Me saqué la letra (tal y como la oía) y hoy en día sigo sabiéndomela. Se me han saltado las lágrimas viendo el video.
@Miki138 Israel 2000 was weak, I admit. Have you got a favourite Israeli entry? Mine is probably 1998 on balance, but it's a close call- 1983, 1988, 1991 and 2001 were all excellent.
@verkaforever ohhhh, hard question ! ! i love soooo,so many Israeli entries. Let's start with Ofra Haza in 1983 ( i see u like it too), next is Yerdena Arazi in 1988 i guess. hmmm "hallelujah" in 1979. and u know what, Dana International was not as good as Shiri Maimon in 2005 (it's of course only my opinion:)) and i really like this entry in 1991 but i also like Boaz Mauda in 2008. can't forget about hottie who is Harel Skaat :))
@verkaforever oh yeah, she is queen of Eurovision. My mother told me, that everyone knew this song better than the one that won. What is your favoutite entry ever in esc history?
@Miki138 I have a weakness for novelty entries. My favourite ESC song of all time is DEFINITELY Ukraine 2007. That is why my user name is "verkaforever"- after Verka Serduchka, the singer.
@verkaforever hahaha, i love it. it is so funny. but most of all i love Serbia& Montenegro in 2004 with Lane Moje. i just can't describe what i feel when i listen to this song. MASTERPIECE
@Miki138 I have to confess I don't like that kind of song very much. I prefer the more lively songs. But you are entitled to your opinion. You will understand how frustrated I was when Verka came second, because if I remember rightly, "Lane Moje" also came second.
@verkaforever exactly, it was second. i wanted "lane moje" to win so badly! And i like this kind of music, because it shows part of culture. Eurovision is about sharing culture, language and emotions and that's exactly what Balkan countries (almost every year) and Israel doing.
more like try almost any other year dumbass Israel sent Mizrahim in 1978, 79, 83, 85, 87, 88, 88, 90, 92, 97, 8, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009 so yur dumb

Toda la razón, esta canción marcó una época de mi vida. Me saqué la letra (tal y como la oía) y hoy en día sigo sabiéndomela. Se me han saltado las lágrimas viendo el video.

I like it! Israel nearly always puts a good song into ESC.
verkaforever 2 years ago 48
@verkaforever you are right, every song from Israel is really great! (except one in 2000)
Miki138 1 year ago
@Miki138 Israel 2000 was weak, I admit. Have you got a favourite Israeli entry? Mine is probably 1998 on balance, but it's a close call- 1983, 1988, 1991 and 2001 were all excellent.
verkaforever 1 year ago
@verkaforever ohhhh, hard question ! ! i love soooo,so many Israeli entries. Let's start with Ofra Haza in 1983 ( i see u like it too), next is Yerdena Arazi in 1988 i guess. hmmm "hallelujah" in 1979. and u know what, Dana International was not as good as Shiri Maimon in 2005 (it's of course only my opinion:)) and i really like this entry in 1991 but i also like Boaz Mauda in 2008. can't forget about hottie who is Harel Skaat :))
Miki138 1 year ago
@Miki138 Ofra Haza was AMAZING! It is a crime her song did not win in my opinion.
verkaforever 1 year ago
@verkaforever oh yeah, she is queen of Eurovision. My mother told me, that everyone knew this song better than the one that won. What is your favoutite entry ever in esc history?
Miki138 1 year ago
@Miki138 I have a weakness for novelty entries. My favourite ESC song of all time is DEFINITELY Ukraine 2007. That is why my user name is "verkaforever"- after Verka Serduchka, the singer.
verkaforever 1 year ago
@verkaforever hahaha, i love it. it is so funny. but most of all i love Serbia& Montenegro in 2004 with Lane Moje. i just can't describe what i feel when i listen to this song. MASTERPIECE
Miki138 1 year ago
@Miki138 I have to confess I don't like that kind of song very much. I prefer the more lively songs. But you are entitled to your opinion. You will understand how frustrated I was when Verka came second, because if I remember rightly, "Lane Moje" also came second.
verkaforever 1 year ago
@verkaforever exactly, it was second. i wanted "lane moje" to win so badly! And i like this kind of music, because it shows part of culture. Eurovision is about sharing culture, language and emotions and that's exactly what Balkan countries (almost every year) and Israel doing.

לשניהם יש קול יפה.. אבל אני חושבת שלא יפה כשהם שרים ביחד.. הקולות שלהם לא מתאימים.
שיר יפה סה"כ :-)
