I completely agree with you, I am 17 and can't stand 90% of music that is out today. It's all about 'club' hits and the recycled beats and rhythms that nearly every artist is using now. Not to mention most Pop stars of today are rip offs of those previous to them. I'd rather listen to Madonna and Michael Jackson then Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.

I'm 34 and this has always been my favorite Madonna record and song since it came out. As a kid, it made me cry for her, and now as an adult, I still cry everytime I hear it. I wish more people were aware of this truly awesome song.

I must say, Madonna has kind of gotten weaker recently. But some songs are fucking jewels like the last two songs in Hard Candy "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" and "Voices" are both great songs. Yeah the rest of the album is a complete urban experiment failure, but it's still quite good. Also I think Ray of Light and Erotica are just as good as Like a Prayer.

Honestly, record companies (with some exception of independent ones) have ALWAYS been about making money. It's not a new phenomenon. It's just that popular tastes in music change. And there's always been a lot of garbage, we just have a lot more saturation. If we asked ten teens from 50 years ago what their favorite artist/band was, we'd probably get less than 5 different answers. Today, no one has similar taste, so record labels go for the lowest common denominator.

AMEN,The major record companies are run by the suits, business and marketing graduates, not by music people like they once were, thats why theres little experimentation and precious little deviation, i thought the internet would have had a massive influence on that by directly bypassing the marketing machines that control it to reach a relevant audience. There is good music around, you have to search for it harder, short previews from record sites,yutube etc.,thats how i hear all my new buys.

I completely understand where you're coming from bro. I can't explain the direction that popular music has taken, and I think that in some part, the monopolization of broadcast radio has something to do with it, but there is definitely a lack of critical analysis and scrutiny on behalf of the consumer that is also to blame. I also do agree that a great majority of new artists and tunes today are absolute rubbish. There is some worthwhile music out there now, but most of it is garbage.

You may say I'm wrong, but yes- it's true, TO ME you are letting nostalgia and your age get to you. Its hard to listen to a record unbiased when you're older. But if you can, you'll find a world of greatness.

My Chemical Romance, Metric, I can keep listing. All of those artists not only have good to great production, but are genuinely talented. Ignore the Nickelbacks and creeds and hinders... they're dying anyway. Well said man! Even the great Madonna has lost her way, musically! Hard Candy sucked...... It lacks soul and has very little depth......  I'm praying she'll reach deep inside for the next album and give the world another masterpiece like this.

A great choice from the album by the way but a shame you faded out the best bit of the song! Love the bit at the end ..

I already loved Madonna before the LAP album came out, but I love her even more since. This song still is my favorite of all her songs! It's sound is really unique, the melody is haunting, love the multi-choruses-structure, if you know what I mean.

Um I wasn't exactly expecting his little diatribe...but he is dead on in his assesment of music from the late 90s onward - He even had the the exact time frame correct. I seriously don't know how people can admit to likeing 90% of popular (and even not so popular) music from 1998 - Present...and I'm only 24

this is my favourite Madonna LP,I will always remember when Like a prayer single came out,I had 1st kiss in my life,wit the 1st girlfriend in my life,and this was always my favourite song...I lost Madonna after Ray of light,she's now boooooring...
