  • Thumbs up if your watching this after Saddam's execution.

  • You know, it's pretty funny how people laugh at this, but don't know who the people in it are.

Although it was funny at the time, and has a catchy tune (which despite my disagreements, find it funny to watch and listen to), the thoughts behind it really reflect the times and how things have changed. Pretty enlightening, actually.

  • Sorry, I ment to thumb up.

  • @Flumong and dude? don't get all pissy cuz he doesn't know who obama is. Seriously? most famous country ruler on Earth? To WHO?! he hasen't even done shit for anyone but himself.. and for some reason gets a free peace award just for being elected.

You know who's famous in other nations? Kennedy. FDR, Wilson, Johnson.. those guys are. Sure they were shit in office but they did things for other nations too.

  • @MrSexytbone im an airforce man myself, my dad was an airman, and i like your idea, we should put a couple of B-2 spirits on that job and we'll win the war in a week.

  • @KingofComputing exactly :D

  • i want to be a navy SEAL or a corpsman when i am of age. kill osama!

  • the one in red is tony blair if you didnt know just listen and it tells you a very funny video cant stop laughing

  • i recognize most people in here, but my question is who is int he red suit and the very end and who is in the blue one? i know that colin powell is in the green one, and i know bush and bush sr. seeing as how i was only 7 when bush got elected, i don't remember much of his cabinet.

  • @KingofComputing i think i figured it out, tell me if i'm correct. the one in the red is tom delay, and the one in the blue is scooter libby. correct?

  • "HEYYY Sadam, Iraq will have freedom!" That isn't true anymore. We are going to abandon them and they will have a civil war and end up like somalia. Terrorists won't have to hide anymore and we will go right back to where we left off in 2001. America is taking a step backwards the way I see it.

  • Give me one good reason beside 9/11 to bomb every muslim? We should only bomb terrorists! For gods sakes America if you can't stand something having a different culture then you, then grow the heck up. Honestly it's disgusting to think we live in a nation that's deviated so far from the Constitution, I imagine George Washington, and the rest of the founding fathers are looking at some people in America today shaking their heads and doing a massive facepalm (bleh, that was a terrible analogy >.>)

  • our forefathers are turning over in their graves for this, yes. i do believe we should take action ffor 9/11, but that does not mean we have to bomb peoplebecause they are different, and you know what, americans are just humans, just like all the rest of you. We arent perfect.

  • I wish Bush could have pressed the big red button!! But at least he got killed

  • Funny...but in retrospect, its kind of frightening how lightly the prospect of war was taken at the time...but we're all guilty of that, myself included.

  • While selsuru may give some good examples, I must say I agree with Vladimir overall. While the US, UN, and NATO still exists, I doubt we will see the age of democracy fall in a very long time. At least I don't hope so. As for corruption of The White House, I'll stick my head in a furnace if I find out he's corrupt. It's laughable.

Thank you Vladimir for your insightful comment. T.S.

  • we should have just kicked Saddam's ass in the gulf war (of 1990-1991). I mean we kicked his ass in terms of the the casualties but we left it at that.

  • "we"?

You were down there shootin' at stuff and killing arabs? :D

  • So when will somebody invade the US to overthrow their tyrant?

  • The President of the USA is elected by universal adult suffrage, also known as democracy, who may I ask elected Saddam Hussein?

  • Keep telling yourself that as your corporate masters ass rape you over and over again.

  • By your own reasoning wouldn't we be just as much at the mercy of corporations in a dictatorship as in a democracy? As for me, I work for the government as a Teacher so no doubt you'd consider me a drain on the western Imperialist coffers. US Foreign policy leaves something to be desired, I doubt very much that a genocidal dictator of the likes of Hussein would have made more moral decisions in his place. Luckily the most powerful country is one which embraces democratic freedoms. V.

  • I find it amusing how you monkeys are so quick to claim your petty little nation states are better then the rest even though they are all the exact same with just different flags. Your kind have not seen democracy since ancient Greece, it's not wise to mistake your current system for theirs.

  • I can understand how my own nation, the UK could be called little but considering the US is one of the largest countries in the world in terms of landmass and is undoubtedly the most superior in military and economic terms I think it's safe to say democracy isn't going anywhere.

As rusty as my history is, I believe that the Ancient Greek form of democracy was confined to male land owners aged over fifty so I see little in common with the current system.

Your point that such nations are the...

  • The US is still small by comparison (literally and figuratively ). While the Greeks did restrict voting to male land owners they still let the people decide not create an illusion of such rights.

  • ...same is true in the sense of their democratic nature and the freedoms they espouse. This includes the right to express one's opinion freely, a freedom which incidentally you are currently enjoying thanks to the laws of your own "petty nation state" and the right to religious self determination.

The only drawback to such a system are those such as yourself who abuse these freedoms to advocate political systems such as that of Hussain's regime (I will not use the word government) which...

  • You actually think I belong to one of your little nation sates!

  • I debate fairly often with people from various theocratic regimes such as Iran; they see a contradiction between the idea of self determination and a functioning society as if we put our needs before anyone else, how can we all work together as a nation?

Perhaps it's easier to understand why we do this if we look at the alternative which is everyone adhering to a single standard such as Sharia law, firstly this type of system is not proscriptive, there simply aren't laws to cover some issues...

  • ...for example many Muslims opposed stem cell research even though this isn't specifically mentioned in their holy texts (which calls into question whether it was indeed God who made up such laws to begin with.)

This inflexibility also applies to interpretation of this system, a sharia court for example simply has one middle aged man with no legal training meting out supposed justice, as such an arbitrary law is inflicted subjectively by an individual as opposed to 12 of one's peers...

  • Anyone who disagrees with the law in such a system creates a problem for those who support it as since it has been decided arbitrarily, what gives one person more right than the other to decide what the law should be?

The alternative is the majority of people in society deciding on a system within which we can all live. This is based on the fairly simple concept of being able to do as one wishes provided one does not interfere in the rights of others to do the same.

    Many Islamists to...

  • ...whom I've spoken wilfuly mistake western freedoms for anarchy, believing if people are free to do as they wish they will abuse that freedom.

My first response is that if everyone in their home country truly believed in the universal application of Sharia law, there would be no need for such a draconian legal system handing out horrific punishments with those who disagreed with it.

Secondly I point out that there is no contradiction in limiting individual freedoms in order to protect...

  • ..the concept of freedom overall.

You are free to disagree with me under my nation's laws, if you decided however that what I had to say was so insulting that you felt obliged to kill me, you would find your freedom curtailed very dramatically.

Finally, the concept of an ideal system by definition requires self determination in order to embrace it. If for example you believed that Islam was the only correct religion but attempted to use coercion in order to make people attend religious...

  • ...gatherings or participate in religious festivals, such victims of said coercion would be no more Muslims than a man being held up a gunpoint for his wallet would be giving away money.

The same concept can be applied to inflicting democracy on regimes suffering under dictatorships however I wonder if those who suffered persecution during Hussein's rule feel the same as you, now that they live in a country where they will not be murdered for disagreeing with their head of state? V.

  • ...would only allow you to criticise the foreign policy of another nation provided your opinion coincided with that of one's own government.

Of course there are those who simply ignore the law and abuse freedoms but the idea that a dictatorship is incorruptible is by definition laughable.

May I ask then which country you call home? I'd be interested to see what superior system it has in place to Western Democracy. V.

  • well although i dont agree with selsuru, many dictators have still been elected like hitler

  • While it is true Hitler was elected to power democratically, he then changed the law to allow himself to become an absolute dictator with the support of the German people. It is hard to imagine any sense in which he stood for the same kind of values prevalent in western democracies such as modern day Germany, dictators also maintain power through brutal supression of all dissent, Hitler was very good at getting rid of his enemies, this was not a fault of his people. V.

  • vlad1m1r I think your mistaken, I don't think Saddam's system was any less flawed the the US system, nor am I a Muslim. I however dislike western values and find their idea of "democracy" misleading, they are controlled by a few rich people. You asked which country I call home and my answer is none, there is no country on the whole of Terra I would call home.

  • An interesting if rather convenient way of avoiding the question, may I ask then which political system you favour besides democracy?

While western values do not pretend to be perfect I have yet to see a system which grants more liberty or prosperity, perhaps at times we do not go far enough, particularly with regard to the PATROT act which restricts certain freedoms but of course such laws are designed to protect said freedoms overall as I mentioned.

The rich and poor alike have a single...

  • ...vote, there is also a cap in many countries on the total amount that a party may devote to campaigning. In countries such as France corporations are forbidden from making donations to political parties to ensure objectivity.

While the potential for abuse exists, that is a far cry from calling the incumbent President of the USA or his predecessor a tyrant, indeed by your own argument surely the President is a pawn of the rich?

  • Of the current systems in use I'd say the best is socialism, again not perfect but better then "democracy".

Every US president is a pawn and a master. While they serve their corporate friends with favors and such they also use their position to get ahead with said corporate friends.

  • Considering the failure of socialist models throughout history I will have to categorise you as an idealist and yet I don't see how any of these values are incompatible with western democracy? If you see democracy as unduly influenced by the wealthy does it necessarily follow that it does not exist or that human rights are worthless, surely you have just disproved this by espousing a different political system to the one in the country where you live? V.

  • "democracy" as the west (the US mostly) believes it to be does not really exist. The leaders are bought by the wealthy and not truly chosen by the people. If my source is wrong then most of Europe is NOT socialist and you are correct that it is a failure but it is my understanding most of Europe is socialist and their system is notably better then the US.

As an unrelated side note humans have no rights they are nothing more then animals.
