  • Jud Strunk died of a heart attack when he was flying a plane, and his plane crashed at the Carabasset airport, in Carabasset Maine. R.I.P.

  • alas, I wish it had been once a day, but I did give my wife flowers whenever I thought of it--which was quite often... I take the flowers to a field of memories now... how I wish I could place one more, simple daisy in her hand...

  • Thank you very much for the song and for the story. A simple song but so evocative...some of my sweetest dreams were linked to this song. Though I was always lonely I believe that such dreams and beliefs will never die. This song speaks to my heart and it keeps running in my memory.

  • A rather simple song, and simple music, but what a powerful song to hear. Gets me a little choked up at times, wonderful!!, and thanks for posting. Jud had to be a great guy.

  • This is such a beautiful example of a gentlemen's everlasting love for his lady even though she has passed on, his love is still very strong for her. Thank you so very much for posting this song

  • this is how i feel when i read some Ray Bradbury short stories,a timeless childhood memory of playing in the counrty, the summer seemed to go on forever...

  • Thank you for posting this. I was about 14 when I heard this.... and I still love this song. Oh, to find alove as dedicated such as this.

  • OMG...this song reminds me of a dear lady I used to go to the store for back some 35 years ago!! She shared a special moment with me telling me about her love long ago and how he used to sing this song to her. I remember her singing this to me. Rest in Peace Ronnie and know that I still think about you often and I still have the Rose Bud wool blanket you made for me all those yearsago.

  • How love use to be in the good ol days..

  • I might be a 21 year old metalhead, but this song is one of my favorites :)

It makes me want to take a stroll in the park.

  • Hey you! This is nice ... :)

  • This song reminds me so much of my wonderful grandparents

  • This song simply sums up my thoughts on the way love should be experienced in this brief journey.

  • Love it thanks for posting

  • He sure was more of a greedy person in english than in dutch, since here he gives daisies, and in dutch he gives roses.

  • @kerstmanneke82 You just don't get it do you? This is not about the flowers, It's about a deep and enduring love. May you be so lucky someday.

  • @spanky207410 Oh I do get it. It was a joke. It's a short story with a humoristic climax.

  • I remember this song well. Growing up in Maine and knowing the area in which Mr Strunk lived it was a special number for me when I was a kid. I do not believe that they were close friends but he had a connection with my uncle in the Sugerloaf area. I was to young to have met him before he passed but I sure which I had,

  • This past june we lost a WWII vet in our family, his wife had passed away 11months prior. The two of them had been married 63 years. Listening to this I can still hear them call each other, "Ma, Pa, Mother, Father." And "Granny." We were very lucky to have had them both.

  • I am so glad I found this song My grandpa use to sing it sometimes and I had rememberd some of it wrong thank you for posting this It is a very lovley song !

  • My grandmother used to dance me around the room to this song when I was about 3. It's the first song I remember and it is still one of the closest to my heart 40 years later. Thank you so much for posting this. It means SO much to me.

  • My Great Uncle passsed away last week, and was married to his wife for 64 years. This song is the exact story of their life together. Amazing.

  • My husband who passed away on October 28, 2010, dedicated this song to me when we had only be dating about a month. We were together 20 years! I am so glad I found it on YouTube

  • great song!! thank u 4 posting.

  • I SANG THIS SONG TO MY WIFE FOR OUR WEDDING VOWS ALMOST 21 YEARS AGO ON A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP IN CENTRAL MICHIGAN IN THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE HUGO. OUR FINAL RESTING SPOT IS NOT ON A HILLTOP BUT OUR LOVE WILL EXIST UNTIL THE RIVERS RUN STILL.......AND THE FOREWINDS BLOW AWAY DALE AND JAN FOREVER

  • @rockweasel1 This comment brought more tears to my eyes than the song did:)

  • Jean Shepherd, my grandmother, loved this song tis a wonderful song.

  • I can't put into words what this song means to me. It, to me, is the most beautiful love song ever recorded. I have played it for years, on my guitar, and tears fill my eyes every time. There is one special lady I think of every time I play it. I love so much. Till the rivers run still...

  • It's been seven years for me since she's been gone and I miss her every day.

She was my heart and soul.

Thank you so much for posting this.

    It says it all.

  • this song went to number one in australia in 1973

  • I can hear the creaking of the rusty old screen door...

Smell the penny candy in Bill Jones General Store

  • I love this song. Very sad song.

  • Jud hit #4 AC, #14 pop, #33 country, with this waltz in Billboard. God bless! RIP, Justin!

  • One of my favorite records when I was a kid. My parents had a great collection for us kids to listen to. Years later, I still love this song!

  • This song reminds me so much of Mom and Dad. We lost Mom to cancer on October 9, 1997 and on November 30, 1997, Dad joined her. They were married for 53 years and I remember them holding each others hand for as long as they could.

  • @MsMooiepie how beautiful............

  • I can tell you all this; having lost my beautiful wife seven years ago and my only child, my beautiful son in an accident a year and a half later, cherish every moment with those you love.

And I mean every single moment no matter how unimportant you think it is.

Don't let a single one slip by without embracing it with all your heart and soul because you cannot call it back and will never experience it again.

  • @virago1776 ((((( virago))))

  • @virago1776You are so right. I helped Dad take of my Mother for 20 years after she had a stroke. He was career Air Force and never thought about putting her in a nursing home. Daisies were mother's flower and I always had a daisy in any flowers I gave her. I listened to my parent’s records, from big band to jazz, to bag pipe, to Bob Wills and learned to love all good music. I just loved his music and this song especially, since we lived in Maine for years. Harry Chapin, and Jud Strunk.

  • I wished this version was on iTunes.

  • I wished this vesion was on iTunes.

  • reminds me of the seventies only lately realised the singer nice thanks for the post

  • this has been one of my favourite songs from when I was very young. It was the first song I ever waltzed to and it reminds me of my grandparents. Every time I see a bouquet of daisies, I think of this song.

  • Howls away, one of the best love songs ever, right up there with Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle.

  • i just listened to this song when i went to irish fest with my boyfriend. he always looked into my eyes when he played the chorus. <3

  • Thanks for the superb & very touching photomontage that you put together to accompany this wonderfully sentimental song.

  • This particular son barely made onto the Billboard charts for two weeks.....peaked at 38, as I recall. The only time I ever heard it was on Casey Kasem's AT 40 show, but those two playings left an distinct impression.

  • I love this song.

  • This was the favorite song of a very special person who I knew while growing up in Burlington, CT. at the Jaquith Residence. Dawn, if you read this, I still remember you playing this song over and over again. Those were special times. I still remember mud biking with your Brother Shawn. I will always remember you and Shawn and Dee dee.

  • I have loved this song forever and know only one piano player that knows the tune. Does anyone know how to find a music sheet for this song?

  • I remember hearing this song back in 1972 and I thought it was great then and I knew that someday it would have more meaning. Well, 38 years have gone by and it has so much more meaning ot me today as I remembet so much of the past 4 decades. Thanks for this memories - those that are young - love the day and cherish the moments.

  • love this song so much, reminds me of a time when life was simple. It's a happy sweet song and yet sad knowing his wife died.

  • What an amazing song.... sad as hell though. Makes you appreciate the love of your life and how they can be gone tomorrow. I love you my wife... I have a daisy for you.

  • gloriously simple, did he write the lyrics, sounds sort of like Woodie Guthrie, it's a wonderful piece whoever wrote it.

  • @kiwicafe if my ancient memory doesn't fell me, Strunk wrote this and first sang it on Rowan & Martin's Laugh In

  • @evensout I have a very distinct memory of seeing Jud Strunk sing this song on Laugh-In when I was a kid, so I think your memory is correct. The song stunned me then as a lad of about seven or eight and it stuns me still today.

  • This song was sung by a wonderful man at my church each Mother's Day. As he sang, the church staff would walk through the congregation handing out Daisies to the moms. At the time we were having difficulty having children. My wife wanted nothing more than to get a daisy someday...and Mother's Day 1999 she was beaming with two daisies (twins!). We have since moved to another state and added two more kids...but every Mothers Day I give her daisies and play her this song. Thanks for posting!

  • 1 hit wonder in Billboard. Hit #14 in '73. God bless!

  • I hate this song. It reminds me of my grandparents and their undying love. It makes me cry. I hate it. And I love it.

  • This song has the most poignant lyrics of any song that I have heard. It is very special and is associated with fond memories of someone very much a significant part of my life. It is unfortunate that we were deprived of Jud's talent at such a early age.

  • sweet song like honey, makes our day happy!

  • my Aunt and Uncle enjoyed 60 years of this marriage and this song reminds me so much of them they danced to it at one of their anniversaries

  • What a beautiful sweet little song about undying love, sort of not dying, anyone who wouldn't feel touched by it or even refuse to listen to it could have a little stone somewhere in their heart

  • This has to be one of the sweetest songs ever...Thanks for posting C:

  • @MyleneMira Most beautiful song ever
