This game was a testament to how an excellent side scrolling adventure SHOULD play, and the graphics back then were simply breathtaking. I didn't know how powerful my SNES was until I first laid eyes on Actraiser 2.

that city-building stuff in the first game was awesome... for kids, and unskilled players, and people with lots of nostalgia (it's waaaayyyy too easy for anybody else)

this game is less varied, but far more polished, and a much better challenge

I want it back because the game was (and still is) crap. And sure it's easy ....now. It's unfair to judge it by 2010 standards seeing how far games have evolved in difficulty and technique.

Soul Blader (Blazer) is the true successor to Actraiser and not this Castlevania wannabe crap.

but sometimes a person actually wants to play a fun, challenging game that won't be boring

in that case, it'd be dumb to judge by many-years-old standards, because you don't want to play the game many years ago, you want to play it now

anyway, there were plenty of hard games long before Actraiser 2--judged against Castlevania III, Actraiser's action segments were weak, even back then

That argument doesn't fly considering how easy a game like Super Mario Bros. is now compared to today's standards, and it is arguably the best game ever made. Final Fantasy IV is considered one of the best 2-D JRPGs, but they needed to seriously amp up the difficulty when the DS remake came out.

Nostolgia makes you go back to those games and not for a renewed challenge.

And yes, I would play through Actraiser in a few hours if I had the time just to recall 1992.

Super Mario Bros. is not the best game ever made, and I bet there were people scorning SNES-era JRPG's for being too shallow, even when those games were new (adventure game fans, maybe)

in spite of that, I loooved every game we've mentioned

but it was a love for shallow things that don't ever change

and to fully experience love for such a thing, is to outgrow it

(P.S.: none of this makes Actraiser 2 a bad game)

I just watched this video and noticed that it stoped almost exactly where I could never get past. lol I tried to play this game so many times and I would always fall into that quick sand stuff and die so I never got the pleasure in finishing it.

I beat this game way back when but it was so incredibly hard.. I remember getting to the top of the tower of babel and fighting the boss.. He stopped time as I was gliding, so I glided right off the edge of the tower and lost my last life >:\

I assure you that they do. The best emu out there is BSNES, but its hardware inetsive. I think you either have a very outdated version of the emu or most likely a bad ROM dump. Try finding another ROM.

I've downloaded from several sites, however same results. When you select to fight, instead of the close up, the game just freezes up.

Definetly wierd. try to grab the latest version of SNES9x and it it still does not work, try messing with the emulator options. I assure you the game works just fine with SNES9x, ZSNES and BSNES.

Gald I could be of help. It's still very wierd not working on the older, more CPU dfriendly emus, tough. Well, dont worry, if you PC can handle BSNEs, youre set for life, it truly is the finest SNES emulator ever programmed. =)

People hated on this game for ditching the sim elements, but it was a very tight and challenging platformer. It probably ranks up there with Super Ghouls n Ghosts as among the toughest platformers on the system. Great game.

As an action game, there's nothing special about this game. Why not go play Dracula, super mario, or EVO search for Eden if you like action games? The sim bit was the part that made part 1 special. Without it, it's just another ordinary action game than isn't as good as the others.

It's not that this gameis bad, but for the fans of actraiser 1, it was a real letdown to remove the sim bits whch was such a big part of the first. Being let down is not the same as BAD. I've not played this much, it does lok very good graphic wise.

forget about the civilization building, this game's real weak point is the control you have on the character, it feels really slow and awkward, he also flies and lands like a hurt pigeon. The graphics and sountrack are great...

I just played the first one and am totaly blown away. then I come to find out there is a sequil! and then I find out it the god part has been removed. that just sucks. Actraiser was so good cause it combined 2 game types so well, but this is just a platformer. Just a slap in the face for those anticipating the sequil. I guess I will still give this a try.

This game wont work on a pal console with any ntsc converter ive tried prety much every brand there is, and 2 copies of the game and every time it freezes at 0:30 just before the twirly part. People say that mario rpg wont work with a converter but it will, use the datel Expert verison.

Has anyone managed to run this game on a pal console?

As much as I loved Actraiser. I hated 2. I had my parents get me 2 as soon as it came out because the first was so awesome. The problems with the second are really two very big things:

1) No civilization building.

2) The wings. As cool as the idea of the wings were, they were poorly implemented and the controls for them were a mess. It made the game difficult just because it was hard to control a simple landing. The moment you got to a "flying" section, you were screwed.

This is not one of the most beautiful games for the snes, there were a few games allot better then this in terms of beauty and looks. Seiken Denetsu 3 for one was so much better, chrono trigger as well.

In the japanese original version, Actraiser one, he was called 'god', and tanzra, or whatever he is, was satan, but nintendo had a "no religion or religious plot" policy with any western game releases at the time, so our version had the txt changed to 'master', with some other revisions. Look it up. You can downlaod a patch which changes it back to original version, which was also harder. It makes the game better if you ask me. Best game series ever. Looks so gorgeous too.

This game was terrible. The tight controls were gone, the city building was replaced, and I think that the music was also inferior, but when the music is from Yuzo Koshiro, that's not saying much, every musical score he touches turns to gold.

Also, there was the difficulty. I'll admit that ActRaiser was on the easy side, but to ramp up the difficulty like that, it's just too much. Also, I hate how your character walks so slowly.

Sorry man, but this game was extremely disappointing. I for one was happy to see that Actraiser 2 would be nothing but action levels. Unfortunately, the controls were horrid. The character moves way too slow, and the double jump move handles so clumsily, sloppily, drunkenly, you get the idea. The controls are terrible, and that's what makes this game so bad. I could care less about the boring simulation parts.

I agree totally. The controls suck ass and it hasn't got the feel of the first. It should be a better game... it's hard to put your finger on it. I suppose the gliding thing was sort of irritating cause you wanted to use and ended up hurting yourslef, and the creatures are just little turns crawling about the place for you to walk onto by accident. 1st one way better.
