Should have had the decency to interview the central Black characters (Leroy Smith & the little brother who cleaned the 'Joint' and tap-danced with the broom). Fat Sam was brilliant & why he didn't end up with a great movie Career (Sopranos, Good-fellas, Donny Brasco etc) is Hollywood's and the public's loss. Scot & Jodie were a class act even then.
@PhillyX1 I heard that- but, if you really consider the tone, the presence of kid, you knew he could'ave been a Somebody. Type-casting him would'ave been a lustful temptation. But anything with New York in it- even Spike Lee's movies (Summer of Sam etc)- could'eve opened the doors to a gifted character actor.
Loved this movie, and loved even more see the behind the scenes stuff and the interviews. Man, I miss being a kid. Oh, what I would've given to have had one of those pedal cars!
@MrsWLeach The illness M.E stands for a long medical term Myalgic/encephelomyalitis, it is called this in the UK/England, it is also called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (*CFS*) in America/USA and is sometimes called this in the UK too, it is a catch-all umbrella term for a collection of symptoms which can severely affect a person, including cognitive disfunction, memory loss, anger-episodes and irritablility, extreme tiredness comparable to very bad Flu, but does not disapear with rest, imagine ...
@MrsWLeach prt 2. Imagine running the london Marathon with a bad Flue, a Hangover and then put dementia/alzheimers on top, you maybe get the idea how bad this illness is,it can be terminal depending on the person, it is very debilitating, it has depression attached to it but the illness is not depression, it is a highly complex immune-sytem response, and is viral-induced, there is not a huge amount of research into it but it affects about 220,000 thousand people in the UK alone, its on wikipedia.
@memyselfandeye3 OY!!!! Thanks for putting it into perspective for me. I've worked when I had the start of a cold, when it was all I could do to get through the shift so adding a hangover and Alzheimer's to the mix does NOT sound pleasant, to say the least. Is there any treatment for this? Hope so! Thanks, again, for the info!
@MrsWLeach there is treatment, but no Cure, it is a very puzzling, complex illness, think of the time youve been most exausted, times it by a Hundred and your not even close, it affects mind, body and Soul and is extreemly debilitating, a well known Motorcyclist in England Barry Sheen had M.E. too, aslo a well known squash player, it affects all kinds of people from a varirty of backgrounds, highly purified and concentrated, distilled fatty acids have been of much help, but again no cure, thanx
@MrsWLeach And the guy who played Dandy Dan killed himself because he had M.E.he couldnt take it anymore. Once doctors etc thought it was all in the mind, as i said depression is an element of it, but it has now been found that it is structure/physically-based and that there are perceivable changes in the brain via cutting edge brain scans, there are many vids etc on youtube,so either look on ytube etc, net to find out more, it is a great shame that Martin Lev, who played Dandy Dan died.R.I.P.
The ending had an Aeral shot similar to Phantom of the Paradise, except for the blood vs pie thing. Hmmmm...idea...Have Phantom of the Paradise end like Bugsy Malone.
I have been trying to find this movie for more than 10 years now. I saw it on tv when I was very young and my parents wouldn't let me finish it. I have thought of it almost ever since. I can't believe I finally found it, and I was right to always remember it!!
@TheMoylesyRockin alright... this film is perfect as it is,,, why would you want them to re-make it? it would ruin this fine classic... like a fine wine, classic films improve with age
Full marks to Dante314159 for posting this. A great movie with a great sound track. Good to see the principals in a room together after 30 years and all of them being successful in their own ways. One of the best 'feel good' films.
This whole thing just made a big smile come to my face :) it's quite emotional for me aswell, i know how they feel, because my school did this for our school play the year we left middle school and it was just like bugsy malone, like gettin props and making scenes it was like one of the best years of my life :') i just wanna go back there an do it again like the bad guys did :'/ .. x
i was choked up and close to tears when i heard about Martin lev (*who played Fat Sams enemy Dandy Dan*), he took his own life because of the horrific illness M.E(*aka Chronic Fatigue Syndrome*),i love bugsy malone and Martin was so superb in it, ive suffered from M.E. for over a decade and i can understand why people commit suicide with this debilitating illness and my heart goes out to him and his family, he'l be forever immortalised on film as the Gangster Dandy Dan, a wonderful performance!
@memyselfandeye3 Thanks for the info on M.E. (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) . What all is involved? I've heard of it but I'm sure I don't know the half of it.
I started watching Part 1 and I couldn't stop. This movie is one of the best ever. It makes me so happy and sad to see them as adults. But you can still really see them as kids! Thanks for the videos.
Absolutely loved this - one o my favourite movies as a kid and I love hearing what happened to people after movies like this. Thanks so much for posting it.
Let's hope the Americans don't make a remake. (No offence Americans but you tend to have a habit of stealing British films and making them more dark and modern or giving them a happy ending e.g. The Italian Job)
I'm doing a school production of Bugsy Malone in my school, and tomorrow is our final performance. I hope one day when i am older, i can look back at the performances, with my fellow cast members just like these guys.
Bugsy Malone is truly an amazing movie, and musical.
I watched all 5 parts as most of the rest of the people here. This movie is still one of my all time favorites.I am about as old as some of the cast so it along with movies like Star wars this is one of my earliest movie memories. I really hope they come out with a Blu-ray of it. It was great to see that the cast of the movie has as good memories making the movie, as I have from watching it. Thank you to Dante314159 for posting this.
@dante314159 Yeah Funny you mention that I was just on their site :) However the Blu-ray from what I am reading is a UK blu-ray but is region free. The extras that are on the Blu-ray won't play in US blu-ray players, but the movie will and the commentary. The Blu-ray has stopped being made too, you have to get it through Amazon sellers, not Amazon itself. I would like to see a US version, perhaps with this documentary as an extra. I am sure there is more out there too, that could be added
I, too, would like to add my thanks and gratitude to Dante314159 for posting these. I've just sat enthralled through all 5 parts and loved every moment. It's a wonderful film and I will be trying to get the Blu-ray version if only for the director's commentary and any other behind the scenes stuff that may be in it. Surprised we didn't get to see the other singers, for example, which I was kind of hoping we would but a minor criticism. :)
I was born in 1973; grew up in Los Angeles, CA, USA; watched this on TV in the 80s. I bought the DVD about 5 years ago. Just watched it again last night. I love this movie so much. It was a part of my childhood. I only wish they had highlighted Fizzie in this documentary, because the scene with "Tomorrow" is probably my favorite. I wonder what happened to him? And so sad about Dandy Dan. I found out yesterday you can get Bugsy Malone ring tones.
I watched all parts and enjoyed it. Thanks for uploading this. I nice to see all the child stars from this movie to give their experiences about working together. I agree with Scott Baio. If it was not for this movie to hire him for the part he would not have been where he is today. He would not have had his own show "Charles In Charge", which was a wonderful show with him in it. I can't imagine any other person doing that show.
What a fascinating documentary. Thanks for uploading. Really candid interviews with all the cast. I remember being SOOOO jelous of Scot when I was a kid and would have loved to be in the movie.
Like my commrads,I also finished watching all 5 parts Bugsy Malone: A.T.W.F. & loved every minitue of it, To dante314159, I thank you so much for putting the documentary on YouTube.
@mtganimemiikefan In a way i kinda glad they did. Because when I heard it in the coke commercial i look up the song a found bugsy malone so without it i would have never found this awesome movie
I dont know what happened to me while I watched this, I felt very saddened to see that there is no way that they can make maybe a sequal or something.
Isn't it remarkable how the four Americans featured here all look the same, particularly Florrie Duggan? She must have heard 1000 times, "Hey! You're that girl from Bugsy Malone! You look just the same!"
its so sad tht Martin Lev died. wen ur watchin the film u kinda 4get he's a kid playing a mean gangster coz he's jst so talented. if he hdnt had that stupid ME he probly would hv hd a gr8 career. in fact hes so gud tht the 1st cple of times i watched Bugsy Malone i was frightened of him! i kinda 4got he ws only my age (13) nd now iv written a sequel to bugsy in which Dandy Dan is a pretty scary character he actually kidnaps sum1 in it! R.I.P. Martin Lev u will be sorely missed xx
One of my favourite films. Although there should have been more focus on the songwriter Paul Williams. His songs are a big reason why the film is a classic. Apparently, Alan parker wanted him to write the music, as he was a fan, but paul williams was touring. Paul eventually agreed, what then happened was he would write the songs on his tourbus between gigs and send them over.
Paul Williams is one of my favorite composers. I also think his songs made the movie - obviously - you can't have a musical w/o music! Paul is probably the most underrated song writer of his generation. Throughout his career he could write any type of music, for a multitude of projects and performers (incl himself).
I don't know how I missed this, as I love Bugsy Malone and this is a great series....so thank you so much for posting! Brought back many happy memories and so nice to see they all have such fond memories too.
Thanks for posting this. I was wondering what had happened to Cassisi. He was great in the film and terrific on the short-lived tv show "Fish." I'm glad he's okay and happy. It was sad to learn about the fate of Martin Lev.
Baio seems like a regular, down to earth guy-so does Cassisi, he looks like your typical New York mobster, collector type, he looks like a bull, I sure wouldnt mess with that guy
If anyone is wondering about the actor who played 'Baby Face' (Dexter Fletcher). He is still acting. You'll see him in 'Stardust', in which he played one of the pirates, he was the second in command.
Thanks so much for posting. I'm glad Foster participated - validated her parking once and she was an incredibly cool person. Not enough of Paul Williams though. Strange... Big family favorite! Use to be on the Z channel back in the early eighties.
Thanks for posting this documentary that repesented a significant movie from my childhood. An excellent film which I will share with my children. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is a great doco. It would be great to do a special dvd edition of the movie with this doco plus audio commentary from the director. I love this movie when i was kid and still do. by the way team got the poster coming.
Thank you for posting. I watched this on ITV years ago and I was shocked and saddened when I first learned about Martin Lev's death. For me, both he and Jodie Foster were head and shoulders above everyone else acting-wise. Don't get me wrong, the others were great - but Jodie and Martin's performances had that little something extra; you kinda forgot they were kids because they were naturals. RIP Martin, you'll always be remembered thanks to the excellent Bugsy Malone.
not sure what it stands for, but I think its that chronic fatigue thing, really really tired to the point of not being to get out of bed, and sleep just doesnt help
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this program. I've ALWAYS wanted to see something like this about my favourite childhood movie... seeing the actors as grownups, and so on. Amazing to finally have had my wish fulfilled. Thank you. :)
And yes, how sad it is that Martin Lev - who gave such an exceptional performance, and could have had a brilliant career as an actor - became sick and lost the will to live.
Watching this at the time it was broadcast it was very nice (and surprising) that Jodie Foster agreed to do the programme as usually when syuch reunion shows are attempted the 'bigger' stars tend to not come back. Two Oscars and yet I get the impression that it's the nicest experience Foster has had making a movie.
I could NOT agree more!! had always wondered what had happened to the cast...and how COOL to see the reunion...AND the singing!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this. I remember this movie when it came out in theaters. I still think about it every once in a while but sadly I dont have it on vhs or dvd... maybe I will look into getting it now after seeing this. By the way... what is M.E.?

You'll see him in 'Stardust', in which he played one of the pirates, he was the second in command.
charliesut 2 years ago 4
he is also "Soap" in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...among other more reknowned things as 'stardust' hahaha

Hey! Thanks!!! I was wondering about him! :)

This was not the first reunion for Jodie Foster and Scott Baio-- they were in 'Foxes' together.

I thought "Oh no I'm not gonna recognise any of this cast..."
But they havn't changed a bit, and they all still act like their characters.

Thanks so much for posting. I'm glad Foster participated - validated her parking once and she was an incredibly cool person. Not enough of Paul Williams though. Strange... Big family favorite! Use to be on the Z channel back in the early eighties.

Weird to think that this movie was directed by the same man who would direct "Pink Floyd: The Wall" and "Mississippi Burning".

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this program. I've ALWAYS wanted to see something like this about my favourite childhood movie... seeing the actors as grownups, and so on. Amazing to finally have had my wish fulfilled. Thank you. :)
And yes, how sad it is that Martin Lev - who gave such an exceptional performance, and could have had a brilliant career as an actor - became sick and lost the will to live.
malovela 3 years ago 2
Watching this at the time it was broadcast it was very nice (and surprising) that Jodie Foster agreed to do the programme as usually when syuch reunion shows are attempted the 'bigger' stars tend to not come back. Two Oscars and yet I get the impression that it's the nicest experience Foster has had making a movie.
