I love Marlin Crawler it's a great company and 'walking the crawler' was a cool stunt at first, but you have overdone it and now it makes you look like a fool. It's just low gears, it's nothing new, would love a crawl box myself for the taco though...
@itsbojan The purpose is to demonstrate how the Marlin Crawler can transform an ordinary 4WD truck into an extraordinary one. Something like this was never even imaginable before the Marlin Crawler came out in 1994. Trucks are now slower, safer, less damaging to the environment, less stress on drivetrain parts, less break downs, less accidents, and increased safety, control, and traction. Walking the Crawler is proof how the Marlin Crawler has TRULY changed the world of off roading for ever.
@itsbojan i suppose he could just put all that stuff in a backpack right. the man makes gear reduction kits for toyota trucks. his trucks gearing is overkill to showcase his products.
Its like saying why would you set up a tent inside a building (sportsman show etc.).... to show the tent. or why they waste their time making those little miniature versions. to show you what it looks like assembled with out having a huge tent in the store.
why don´t you get your buns in the car? point A, you dont have to walk. point B you don´t have the risk of slipping and being run over by your own car!
@beersvanbas Thanks for your comment :-) This red 1980 Toyota Hilux is the promotional vehicle for Marlin Crawler, Inc.. It is Marlin's personal rig that he has been wheeling since 1983. These "Walking The Crawler" videos are an amazing way to showcase how your truck can be transformed by a Marlin Crawler transfer case setup. The simple fact that the truck has gone up Cadillac Rock in ELEVENTH GEAR illustrates an ultimate testimony to the reliability and versatility of the Marlin Crawler.
ha I was like how is this old guy on the side of the trail telling this guy how to do it.. Cause he made it no problem.. That old guy needs to shut up.. ha ha Look whos retarded now... ha ha ME!
when u say its in 22 gear what do u mean how do u get a 5 speed tranny into 22 do u have all transfer cases in low then multiply by then number of gears? i dont quite understand but ur videos of this truck are awesome id be happy with just a crawl box
Thanks for the comment kidwiththeface814. I have a two tone Blue/White 1981 Truck with a 3RZ-FE engine and a triple Marlin Crawler transfer case setup yielding a 511:1 Crawl Ratio. You can see it in action in other videos I have uploaded. Thanks!
@kidwiththeface814 thanks for the reply and ill check it out sounds like a sweet rig. mine still in a very slow build stage. but the ball is officially rolling now which is nice.
i got a quick question. i have an 86 toyota with 4 inch lift and 35s stock gearing. im planning a trip to the rubicon. when i go im gonna have it locked up in the rear with 5.29. is it possible to make it through the rubicon trail like that?? or should i straight axle it and run locked up front and rear??? oh yea love the vidoe this is awesome. i have done alot of wheelin up at browns camp oregon. i just want to make sure i can make it though before i get down there and find out i cant
The rubicon has easyier ways around the hard stuff if you cant do it, but having the ability to lock up both ends is prefered. And a SAS would be great but if you cant get it done before your trip and do it with your IFS just remove your swat bar for more play in your frount end. There are guy's in the TTORA that do the Rubicon in mostly stock Tacomas. Watch some of the favorites on my page you'll like it, and I hope this helps you on your adventure.
thanks everything helps. i have experiance i just want to make sure i will have fun. its about a 10 hour drive for me and i want to also be able to drive my truck home lol..so when i go to browns camp i will take my sway bar off and see how much more that really helps just so i know. for my sake. i will be locked up when i get there i didn't think i would get them before but i almost have the money for the lockers and gears right now
very cool I'm the same way, I like to drive my rig's to the trail and back home. And before I did my SAS on my tacoma I just drove it without a sway bar every where I went just because I never know when I will take a detour home from work:)
Thanks for the comments everyone! Watching the video really brings back a lot of excitement! I've never seen anyone do anything like this! I have to think back to when Marlin walked the Crawler up Lions back in Moab, UT a long time ago. I haven't been back to Moab in at least 4 yrs, but I hear it's been shut down now. Good times!
Hello fourwinds27: I am sure many ppl have different names for different obstacles, but this is the location where that Cadillac rolled off the mountain. If you have ever hiked down from this rock, you can still find the remains of the Cadillac down in the trees. This is how this climb got it's name, Cadillac Hill, and this is how this exact location got it's name, Cadillac Rock. Cheers!
Hey TachyonDriver! You are right on- we've been thinking about how to implement this. I think the best way would be to have a steering wheel lockout, perhaps a modification of the stock steering wheel lock, and then have a receiver operate a relay to disable the EFI system. Its not really too great, but at least he could stand far back and let the truck go. Then, if there was a problem, we could simply kill the ignition. We might do something like this soon, it's a start!

What Marlin should do is have an RC transmitter with him to pretend it's just a 1:1 scale RC crawler ;)
Apart from showing off, WHY would you walk with the truck??
