  • @battlehawk777

sry, I don't think they regularly print this song, but I'm playing it right now.

I bought it online( for only like $14) at sharmusic In the search bar, look up marchenbilder. I got the green one( for both viola and piano).

    hope this helps

    :)

  • viola power :)

  • i cant wait to learn that <3

  • What's the definition of an optimist? A violist with a pager! :)

  • @agent885 oh yeah?

how do you make a violin sound better?

Sell it and buy a viola!

  • @pizzadudebob12345 Let me guess - You play the Cello

  • What's the definition of an optimist? A violist with a pager! :)

  • We just had a Schumann Festival here at the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra - why couldn't we have done this! Far lovelier than his violin concerto (& yes, I'm bias, tehehe).

Of course, would have been nice to have Yuri too!

  • the pice is called marchenbilder by r.schumann Op. 113 im playing that pice and im a grade 8 viola player in top 5 13 year old viola players in ireland send me a vid of viola or violin playing i would love to see you play

  • @vakama208 ..... do you not know how to spell "piece"... looks to me like you should put down the viola down for a while, stop bragging on youtube, and learn to spell words most 6 year olds can.

  • @koonhunter33hey your a 44 year of frigit how spends his time masterbathing and looking for things to bitchabout on you tube

  • @vakama208 sorry but i was no tring to boast i jut wat to see people play

  • @vakama208 Hahaha even when he is trying to insult people he can't spell correctly. See the squiggly red line? It means you have made a error. By the way what the hell is masterbathing.. and "44 year of frigit" ?? Are you on crack, or are you seriously that fucking stupid. And no I'm about 25 years younger. The 44 year old who spends his time masturbating is your dad who cums into your mouth each night and touches you whilst you are sleeping.

  • the pice is called marchenbilder by r.schumann Op. 113 im playing that pice and im a grade 8 viola player in top 5 13 year old viola players in ireland

  • Fantastic! No words! Bashmet is realy the G...!

  • das mach suchtig...

  • LOVE VIOLA :*

  • can someone name me a better violist than him??

There are so many great ones but he is soooooo special !

  • @viola128 William Primrose. Though if you meant LIVING violists, I got nothing. Patricia McCarty and Kim Kashkashian are both excellent as well.

  • @Sully90Si Helen Calus is also another excellent living violist. And Nobuko Imai.

  • violas are truly a beautiful instument.

this song is beautifully played, very relaxing.

  • try looking for 'marchenbilder'

  • You can download sheet music for free at imslp.org

  • @amanofsoup You sure? Because i didn't see it unless it has another title...

  • i have the sheet !

  • @milichica1504 Good for you.

  • God the viola is such an impassioned and sadly, sidelined instrument. Beautifully played - bravo!

  • goooooooooooooooooooooodddddddddddddddd

  • Замечательно)

  • I love Yuri for is unorthodox fingerings, that really show the colors of the Viola.

  • Love this! Bashmet kicks it hard!

  • i may not be able to tell what technique or anything like that he is using, but I do know he is beyond godly when playing.

P.S. he kinda reminds me of snape....with a viola.

  • @o0moxyxmoron0o lmfao snape with a viola... that's priceless

  • I love this guy :)

  • Bashmet was incredible when he was in his prime

  • @mjsinno and he still is :D

  • I love the wonderful dreamlike quality of this piece. Beautiful, sensitive playing - bravo! :)

  • Фантастика! Спасибо за пост!

  • Nice ~

  • They play beautifully and sympathetically together, with lots of heart. The piano doesn't overwhelm the viola, but lets it sing. Really lovely. Thanks.

  • WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE betörent schöne klangfarben, die aber nicht aus zuckerguss entstehen, sondern aus seelentiefe und geistiger reife.genial*********

  • eto volshebno, spasibo. Das ist fantastisch. sehr melodisch und elegant,

    danke für wunderbare spiel.

  • Nope. 1st mov.

    :)

  • Soadfan, you read my mind! :-) I too was wondering what movement this is... I would venture to say this beauty of a piece is the 4th mov., i.e., judging by the info in Wikipedia: Langsam, mit melancholischem Ausdruck (Slowly, with Melancholy Expression) in D major. Can anyone please confirm? And many thanks C24 for the video!

  • its the first movement of schumanns Maerchenbilder entitled "nicht schnell", i can tell you about the harmonic structure if you like :)

  • Thank you CD. Remarkable music -- did Schumann originally write this for cello and piano? Viola sounds superbly, of course. And thanks again C24 for the video.

  • it was originally written for his friend who was a violist (the name of which escapes me, something although i should know seeing as i played it for my Amus.a) it was first performed in vienna i think with his wife clara accompanying, :)

  • I would love to know about the harmonic structure

  • really? i can talk about a few things briefly,( B means bar and -> is an arrow indicating an application chord) the first five bars are pretty straighforward and the chord progression can be seen as B1 I B2 IV B3 V VI B4 (VII) -> IV B5 V I .one thing i find interstering is in bar six schumann flatens the 2nd scale degree within the piano part creating a nepolitan ii6, in bar 12 schumann uses the bii6 followed by an interrupted cadence, using chord six of the cadence to pivet into b flat major

  • the chord progression i find most interesting is in figure c. after piveting into F major about six bars before and playing around with different chords, schumann uses the progression V I III. usually chord I - III is seen as a "weak" progression, however schumann raises the sixth scale degree (D) thereby creating an appogatura within the piano part, schuman then uses chord III to pivet into a minor, essentially useing the appogatura to create a smooth modulation, which is quite unorthodox :)

  • p.s the appogatura modulation into a minor can be heard in the piano part around 1;22, let me know if theres anything else you'd like to know

  • what movement is this?

  • すごく美しいです。

    この音は素晴らしいですね。こっちもヴィオラを頑張ろう!

  • So Beautiful and Elegant.....

  • couldn't stop listening to this....

  • Smooth!

  • gotta love the viola <3

  • The pipe organ at the back looks awesome.

  • Robert Schumann wrote the piece, the soloist goes by a different name.

  • hahaha noob. lol

  • i cried the first few seconds... BRAVO!!!!

  • what is the exact name of this piece?

  • Marchenbilder by Schumann

  • Kind of too bad "zachdellinger's" comment was removed. I'd be curious to know then what the highest standard of playing is? If not Bashmet then who?

  • Comment removed

  • Usually the fact that it's Yuri Bashmet is enough to legitimize a recording. Is it not enough that he plays with near flawless technique, subtlety, command of the music and a unique and thorough understanding of the music?

  • Comment removed

  • If you listen to Pinchas Zukerman, there is basically no emotion in the potentially beautiful parts. So be thankful for Bashmet's version because he cares more than others about this piece : )

  • Comment removed

  • golden age of bashmet, flawless. look at his bow arm, just an art.....

  • can anybody please give me a copy of the sheet music? im asking as a fellow violist, and you guys who play viola know how much the violin hogs the spotlight

  • @battlehawk777 I have the sheet music. You can find it online as well. If you provide me with your email I can email it to you. It's a nice PDF.

  • can i also get a copy of the sheet music

  • @battlehawk777 do you have the music yet??

  • @battlehawk777 it's listed on IMSLP. google "imslp Märchenbilder" and its the 1st link

  • @gunblader928 ok, thanks!

  • @battlehawk777

Yes, I agree. It does. And I would also like the sheet music.

    imslp.org/wiki/Märchenbilder,_Op.113_(Schumann,_Robert)

  • @battlehawk777 If you Google this piece, you should be able to track down a scanned PDF version of the sheet music. I recently went looking for the sheets for Piano Concert Op44 and found them within a few minutes on Google. Good luck!

  • @battlehawk777 yes indeed!...those hoggers =]

  • @battlehawk777 I KNOW RIGHT!!!!That is simply why I chose the viola to play.

  • @battlehawk777 I could not like this comment enough haha

  • @battlehawk777 i play this one right now :)

  • @battlehawk777 hey - this is good look up 'imslp' on the internet and click the first link then click international music libary in the menu, then search for composers and then under schumann, robert it should be under MarcheBilder which is its other name click the first PDF file for piano, viola and even a violin transciption - this site has abosolutely everything (well almost :P)

  • @battlehawk777 search for it in imslp. org

  • this is great......just wait until Lawrence Power records it.

  • buitiful :}

  • This is the best interpretation i've heard on here. Everybody else that i've seen plays it so mechanically and robotic.

  • Pinchas Zukerman is the best interpreter of this piece, and many people can play this piece wonderfully.

  • i love the viola

  • I don't understand....

  • The closing pages of this "Marchenbilder" sound magical...

    Greetings, Rolf

You can find me on Twitter as @otterhouse

  • he is amazing:) i love him, his sound is just amazing:)

  • He is wonderfull.....I'm a violinist but I heard some violists and I can say that bashmet is the most wonderful violist

  • fantastic sound.

I once attended to his live performance in Japan, and was completely shocked. His actual sound is unimaginable from other player's sound, even from his own recorded sources. I strongly recommend anyone who is interested in him never to miss the opportunity you can listen to his playing by your own ears.

  • oh ok haha! Thats good, I was thinking "Well I mean, he does have long hair, but besides that, it's pretty obvious that that's a man on the stage"

  • What strings doe she use on the D and A? anyone know?

  • um... actually, it's a man playing bahaha

  • oops, no no no! haha, that was a typo! I know it's Yuri Bashmet, he's favourite viola player of all time!

  • Prim strings.

  • WOAH.. your bow is way too tight ;-)

  • Outstanding...So much telling without any words.Ah..Bashmet..

  • mozzafiato...

  • mines is 16 1/8 and i'm only 5'7 so it quite hurts my neck after a concert.

  • mine is a gliga 17 1/2 and I'm 5'10 but I have monkey arms it is so hard to fit a shoulder rest properly; it feels like it'll break

  • wow 17 1/2??? i thought you had to be like 6 and a half to play violas that big! (i'm going to try a 16 1/2 this christmas.)

  • @kyleclef yeah, but after a couple years now, I should go for a 17in. I was the only Viola in the orchestra at the time, but now I could give my arms a break. Nice piano compositions by the way.

  • @hUzyOdaD thanks! :) subscribe if you want haha, much more stuff to come. never mind me though, I love Bashmet, he is a god, and I genuinely believe he is one of the best musicians in the world. Sure he seems to no be in his prime anymore in terms of viola, but still way better than any others...if he was a violinist he would be up there with Perlman and Vengerov. Very talented man.

  • magnifico

  • Someone here know if is a recording of this piece? Thanks.

  • i love viola

  • Meh...can't say he's my favorite performer.

  • How wonderful would it be to have a master class with him, huh?

  • Practically unanimous praise - in which I'm 100% in agreement. As an amateur violist I know the art that goes into such silky tone (not that I have it) I heard a master string teacher once say that you can know a great artist by a hearing a single extended note.

  • I absolutley love this piece!

    Can't wait to master it!

  • ah, now I remeber why I play viola

  • how about stop playing with music....

  • dude who cares if he plays with music? Considering what kind of sound he brings out of that viola I honestly wouldn't mind if he walked out on stage wearing a donald duck suit. that is as long as it wouldn't interfere with his playing.

  • yo, stop playin over the finger board!

    i do the same thing....

  • You're ignorant.

  • wow it was a joke.

    he plays nice

  • The best

  • What's with the 3+ inches between the bow and the hair???

  • Some people prefer their bow hair pulled tighter.

  • ***Search "Nate Robinson violin" on Youtube***

  • Look the way he flip his music sheet,His stage behavior is so refined!

He is great player, fully draw out ability from his instrument.

  • Esther you are right ... Paganini for sure>> Schumann had a rounder face..

  • and when will he record Bartok?

  • Just great! Lovely music and charmful performance. I have two questions. Does anybody know if the length of his viola is common? It seems huge to me. And what about the name of the pianist?

  • it doesn't look too big, probably a 16 1/2" or a 17", not too huge, just the right size to get the lovely "chocolatey" sound signature to the viola

  • bashmet has been quoted as saying his viola is 15.5".

  • although you've also got to remember that yuri bashmet is quite small. i bet its a 16 1/2.

  • actually it's a 15 1/2. Amazing instrument

  • Mikhail Mutian is the pianist.

  • Anyone else think he looks just a little like Schumann here?

  • Dude, he totally does-- although I can't get out of my head that he resembles Schumann meets Severus Snape...

    (hi sam. it's em.)

  • ha to play viola you have to be just a little but sinister

  • bit*

  • I think he looks just like Nikkollo Paganini, not like Robert Schumann at all.

  • he kind of looks like Mel Gibson?...lol

  • i think he looks like yuri bashmet :P lol your right he looks alot like paganini.

  • Una buena versión, muy sentida y expresiva, ¡enhorabuena!

  • Never heard this piece played with such warmth and wistfulness, beautiful interpretation of a beautiful piece. His tone is perfect and he judges the dynamics flawlessly ... just fantastic.

  • Thank you for this plasure! God bless you!

  • I AWARD THIS 2 1/2 CLARAS...I never can understand why one would reach for a violin, when there is a viola in the house?!?

Anyway, this definitely has a nice hazy far

away quality to it,although it clearly lacks a certain whim and fancy to be a "Fairy" tale.

Or rather I should say that a certain "Glumly logical" low pressure front hangs over it too much. This is highly edifying Beddy-bye perform

    -ing.

  • Bayıllldıımmm!..

  • çok güzel..

  • Wow. I absolutley LOVE Yuri's sound, and the way he uses the bow... So much he brings out... Incredible.. Bravo!!!!

  • Lovely palying. Beautiful vibrato.
