The Same two people wrote and sang the other greatest theme song of all time...Cheers. Listen to them both and you can hear the similarities in the voice and piano style.

@ooxcfhxoo while there are 22 people credited for writing the "Cheers" theme Gary is the only one credited for singing on the track. he also wrote the theme for "Mr. Belvedere" as well

Was there ever a longer verison of the theme song?

Yes. A longer version was present in many of the early episodes from 1984. In later episodes, it was replaced with the short version.

There's actually a full version of the theme song with more verses and different lyrics. It clocks in at 3mins 20

@maestro3450 The "longer version" isn't even the full version of the song. The full length 3:20 version of the song can be downloaded at Amazon. The artist is Gary Portnoy. The "longer" 1:25 TV version used during the first season of the show is also available for download on Amazon.
