They truly loved each other & were soulmates. You CAN be in love with your best friend; not necessarily in a sexual way, but just have a bond that surpasses any "regular" bond, & these two had it. A playful or affectionate peck on the cheek between best friends? Why not? & if they were more, so what?

It sounded flirtatious to *me*..another example of their affection for each other. :)
