Lastly, no matter who is in office and what party line you follow, you must understand that oil is not our future, it was the dream of a industrializing superpower fresh out of a major world conflict looking to build a little slice of the American dream. Now we must have a new dream. A dream of a sustainable future in harmony with our planet, and our neighbours, living a more responsible lifestyle.
Drilling in various places will likely be a mere hiccup in the global oil down turn. This is not uncommon in the world of oil recovery, however there overall trend will still be a downward facing one.
In ten years the world will still have oil. And we will be running out of it (hopefully at a slower pace than we are now). Never the less we will never be producing oil in the quantities we have previously. At current consumption rates a more realistic estimate is around 50 years tops. Still this is a very scary prospect considering the effects that the oil crash is having on our current economy. Just imagine a world with even less free flowing and cheap oil!
Wow this video has sparked one hell of a debate here. I'll just chime in on a few things.
Yes US oil production peaked in 1970-71, as per M. King Hubbert's predictions. Production peaks are a function of available oil capable of being extracted and refined. We hit the half way point those years and are on the backslope of our production. This is only altered by new forms of secondary and tershiary(sp?) extraction and newly discovered reserves.
First of all don't say "us" implying I'm a shit-for-brains yank. I'd sooner die than be an american.
Yes u.s. oil did peak in the 1970's hence the "oil crisis", fuckwit. try learning basic history.
tree huggers don't stop jack, just as protesters didn't stop bush's oil war and the murder of countless innocent civilians and the orchestration of 9/11.. but tree huggers stopped them? bullshit. these wasn't sufficient oil there to be efficient, they'll drill when they're fucking disparate.
I'm a big fan of not drilling in national wilderness areas. The oil under there (while not much compared to what we've been guzzling) might be enough to keep us supplied with plastics and lubricants after the crash.
If there is such a thing, "peak oil" may actually work in our favor. Then my great-great grandchildren's grandchildren might thank the tree huggers for not letting us drill ANWR and other domestic sources way back in 2007.
incredibly ignorant people like you are the reason we're in this mess to begin with. peak oil is not only real, it already happened. within ten years your life will be forever changed along with everyone else's in this country. wake up and turn off the tv and stop believing everything FOX news tells you.
I don't base all of my opinions on single sided sources like you do. Oil being gone in 10 years is ridiculous. There are millions and millions of barrels within our grasp if politics would get out of the way. You, my friend, are the ignorant one.
you sound confident that oil will just somehow last forever. it won't and thats fact. even if all current predictions are wrong and it last for 50 years, does the severity of the situation change? no. we are still fucked because "alternative" fuels only make up 1% of the oil we use today.
The market will take care of that, like it does everything else. If "alternative" fuels are viable, convenient and reasonably priced, people will want them. If people want them, companies will make them for the same reason they make everything else, profit. "all of the current predictions" don't say we run out anywhere near 50 years, there's more than oil than that, we're just not allowed to go get t or refine it for that matter. Al and his minions say so.
yea, yo dip shit oil doesn't need to be completley gone before the shit hits the fan, tool. it takes time and energy to overhaul the worlds infrastructure as in the two things we're shit out of are the two things we need the most, dumbass. Also what happens when we burn it all? we fuck the planet and the ecosystem reverts back to how it was when oil was formed. Y'know stagnant oceans, no poles, uber storms, and mass unstability in the atmossphere.
Very intelligent comments you make "user." You sound like a teenager and probably are. One day you'll have responsibilities and pay taxes. Your views will change. Until then, good luck with your liberal, save the world, screw the economy attitude. You're the blind one... blindly following Al Gore and his selective science.
oh no kstom whips me with cutting sarcasm. I pay $470 a week in tax and my views havent changed bec ause I'm not a tool blindly eating out of the hand of the zeitgeist world as a mere spanner to the economy. No I don't follow al gore, he's a tool. I mean global warming cause disease? what next a war on climate change who I'm guessing wears a turban too? he's as bigger blind motherfucker as bush. try watching the end of oil series.
People left it too late to switch to alternative fuels, period
who says oil needs to be gone? even if there is 40 years of the stuff left it doesn't matter. PEAK OIL as in when demand out strips supply wreaking havoc. You seem to base all your opinions on the one side of "what it is best for the economy for me to believe, I'll believe."
And why is politics getting in the way huh? could it be (I'll just take a dumb guess) They want reserves? why - answer me that.
"If there is such a thing, "peak oil" " my god you're a dense one. so if it's possible that oil is finite and the world production will peak just as it did in america in the 1970's it'll result in more oil for future generations?
Oil did not "peak" in the 1970's. There's plenty of oil, tree huggers just won't let us get or refine it. Other nations who are industrializing and have no environmental laws (China) are going to kill us economically and then we will have no power left to say "please don't drill that oil well," or "for goodness sake, stop eroding the atmosphere." All of which is fabricated anyway!
Could continue with them all of sudden having "Manual Farming Tools" in their Hands....and a slogan "If you want to eat, get busy, there's a huge field in front of you that needs tilling and sewing"..
Russian Premier Vladimir Putin says research shows that Russia has enough oil and gas for itself and for Europe for the next 100 years.

And scientific research shows that this not true. 100 years, the world now consumes 85 million barrels a day, and that number is rising every day.
