appalling! did you say you trained for 5 years on and off in aikido in various schools before you started teaching? hopefully you had a lot of time off of training... and aikido is a "weapon support system"?! wtf really?
if this was a wakizashi....well obviously a sword vs unarmed DOOHH. even if it were a real stick instead of a padded one, and the boxer had no gloves(like in a realistic situation) boxer would still be owned, because every block would hurt like hell.
perhaps you'd have less success, were the 'boxer' not stuck in 16 oz gloves. It's a distinct disadvantage to not be able to use your hands to grab someone, when they can. Give him 4oz gloves, and you might have much more trouble.
@clumsyninjascorner Agreed, but that would be out of the scope of what is common "boxing". Not that boxers wear gloves all day, but the training in common boxing doesn't rely on grabbing, or anything else that cannot be done in boxing gloves. It's a silly situation, and meant to be. Just as silly as when people ask "how would Aikido do against a boxer", Aikido's syllabus doesn't train for that, so it wouldn't do very well. Boxing doesn't train for stick fighting, so it doesn't do well either.
@ChuShinTani boxig doesnt claim to be self defense, aikido does so aikido should spar against boxing type attacks and basic wrestling attacks. It doesnt and so isnt effective
The Aikido person's movement is counter intuitive to core concept of taking the opponent's balance. Also, his head moves like he is afraid; not trained. He doesnt move from his center. I train in aikido, watching this makes me want to train in silat. Aikido is supposed to be a fixed fight. Wait for the Uke to enter your space, then take his balance. Basic movements used to do that: Irimi, tenkan. Boxer cleaned this dude's clock a few times. I know the video is for fun.
I love how you guys are sitting here trying to imply Aikido sucks, it's outdated, or "fake". You modern day "gladiators" with your UFC sex-sack sniffing (no offence) and boxing, these are just violent sports used to feed the bloodlust of the willing and non-willing American people. Aikido has many pratical uses( though not show in this video, thus was not it's purpose), but this was ment to show the flaws in boxing defence form. Aikidoka and Karateka are not trained to "fight", but to keep peace
if an opponent has a stick or club i or anybody in the right mind wouldnt be trying to block it directly. rather dodge for your life so u dont risk breaking your bones and then try and disarm, then start wailing on the person with or without the stick you took.
@ziferzero77 I understand what you are saying. Understand though, this isn't a video prescribing a strategy for dealing with a stick. It's simply showing common boxing responses to someone trying to strike you. Boxing is designed to deal with unarmed people, so common boxing strategy, like covering, is a bad idea in a weapon fight.
It looks just as silly when you try to use Aikido strategy in a boxing context. Aikido and Boxing are designed for different contexts.
@ChuShinTani oh i know, dont worry i read the description. i meant no harm, but when i first saw this i lol so hard and was like... wtf what's going on? and just felt like saying a strategy.
@ziferzero77 Yeah, I think a lot of people are really surprised by this, and think it's pretty silly. But to me, it's just as silly as asking, "What would Aikido do against a boxers jab." Who knows, who cares, the systems were built for different things. If you want to learn how to box, you should just study boxing, instead of thinking there is a short cut to being a good boxer. Aikido is good at what it does, if people would only take the time to understand it.
@ChuShinTani Boxing, can be traced back to the days of the arena, and the Olympic games so is MMA it was called pancrase. It has worked for thousands of years in fights to the death with weapons shields bows and arrows.I would no doubt say it is the most tryed and true form of martial art.A good boxer(The guy in this video is terrible no offence) would cut you off somthing this guy is doing absolutley none of.
Aikido is amazing at what it does, make everyone involved look extremly foolish.
@ChuShinTani I think you should show a video of a thug armed with a gun against an Aikido expert armed with a club.....I think that would show another interesting paradigm.....
@ChuShinTani I think he's moreso explaining that Aikido is about as authentic as a 3 Dollar Bill, WWF, or Milli Vanilli's singing abilities.....take your pick.
Pretty poor footwork from the boxer...in fact I would venture that he isn't actually much of a boxer really. Where is the distance, movement and timing?
I get the point you are making it is just if you are going to demonstrate a move against a boxer you should get someone who can - i don't know - box maybe?
@CalgaryPFS I'm sure his boxing ability is far beyond what you are going to get from 90% of the general populace. I didn't have a pro boxer on hand when we made this video.
@ChuShinTani It's all good - like I said I get the idea, but maybe get his movement a touch sharper vis a vis footwork - otherwise it is Stick vs PUNCHER rather than a boxer
But it is awesome to see you taking things "outside the box"
I think, that the boxer's tactic isn't efiicient to be used against a guy with a stick. If it were a real bat or smth, his hand and side would be injured bandly. I think that it would be better to be defensive and to wait for a moment when you would be able to clinch and then to continue on the ground. That should give him the ability to control the bat.
But I'm not an expert... After all I wet to Jiu-Jitsu just half a year. =)
@MrIbuprofen I think you are correct. That is a better strategy. It is outside of the context of boxing though, so beyond the scope of this video. However, if you were unarmed, facing a weapon, the strategy you just described is probably your best bet (aside from running, if that is an option). We have some videos, from our early practices that show similar strategy.
@ChuShinTani A lot of what this represents is how much better an armed person is, in a fight, when compared to an unarmed person. Here is a video of two similarly skilled guys. One is much more successful than the other, not because of style, but because of a weapon.
People like to talk about the ultimate "street martial art", then they compare things like Boxing, MMA, Bjj, Wrestling etc. This is a foolish, because anyone could pick up a stick, flashlight, pipe or wrench and have the advantage.
your walking backwards, holding the left hand up to protect the head/ push back the opponent and just brandish with the stick... even i can do that... if the boxer really had the intention to hit you right in the face/ stomach you would be screwed, thats what i think
@TheBamBamBoom Aikido black belt v.s. Aikido black belt. Both have some boxing experience. Give the credit to the difference in style (unarmed boxing methods/armed Aikido methods) and the reach of the weapon, not to the ability level of the guys doing it (we're pretty close to the same).
@vitormg180 We are peers, not teacher student. He is in no way afraid, and is trying to hit me. However it's easier to hit someone if you have a stick, then it is if you are unarmed. Sticks are long, they give you a reach advantage.
Wow...I think after the first two times you hit me with that thing I would've just gotten out a (paintball) gun and shot you something like 30 to 40 times. Aikido is a shit martial art that is barely practical and I would love to see you go hand to hand with a REAL boxer or Mixed Martial Artist and see how you do. You suck...
@100tonlifter Do you ever watch at an archery demonstration and think "Id like to see that guy go hand to hand with a boxer"? This demonstration is not about hand to hand, it says that in the title of the video.
@ChuShinTani Matter of fact I do. You're telling me you're only a good fighter with a stick in your hand fighting a "boxer" (if he even was one). I guess if you actually have to drop your balls a tad bit and fight fist to fist you're screwed.
Finally! Now I can see how an aikido master would act against an actual musclehead throwing punches outisde of dojo. Gives me confidence in these techniques. Thank you!
@nogiwarrior Reach advantage is an important factor. One that a weapon affords. Aikido techniques do not revolve around unarmed exchanges, but are instead designed around weapons work.
In addition unarmed martial arts systems are not well suited for dealing with weapons conflict. Different systems have their advantages and disadvantages. All too often people think only of unarmed systems as "martial arts", when in fact they represent only a very small percentage of what is out there.
@ChuShinTani so maybe an apropriate response video would be some dude with a stick vs. me with a gun. that would show the importance of reach advantage and would make as much sense as this video. as a former marine, i can say most of my training revolves around armed combat. and all that would show the viewers exactly what you have, "weapon, good, no weapon, bad."
@nogiwarrior Yes. However I don't hear thousands of people saying what happens when a stick vs a gun. However I do hear all kinds of people asking, "how would Aikido deal with boxing". Well this is how, Aikido is a weapon support system, involving people controlling your weapon hand (wrist grabbing), done at distances that need to be covered quickly (rushing attacks). Aikido has it's paradigm just as boxing has a paradigm, when you see them out of place they look funny.
@ChuShinTani well, you do seem to have a real love for your art and i do respect that. so, keep on keepin on bro. i have thouroughly enjoyed the vids you posted. keep it up.
@ToniMattTony Aikido is a weapon support system. So most likely the boxer would be dead before he got into a range to use his boxing skill. If the boxer tried to hold the weapon hand, or rush at the Aikido practitioner (the only ways he can win when facing the weapon) The common techniques of Aikido will come into play. If the Aikido practitioner has trained against dynamic resistance (sparring) with his techniques, the odds will again in favor of Aikido.
@abomb10 Well one time I talked to a guy, who talked to this other guy, who knows a Japanese kid who said it was a myth. And that kid could eat with chopsticks, so he would know.
@ChuShinTani Unarmed systems are more likely to be used. Do you carry around a stick everywhere you go? Most people don't like the idea that they'll need to rely on a weapon. Not to mention that "boxer" is about as skilled as a a pissed-off, windmill throwing 5 year old.
@MrRagaRaga Most fights, for survival happen with weapons. People, when they feel their life is being threatened pick up whatever is handy, golf club, beer bottle, kitchen knife, rock, stick etc.
This is not the case when two males are fighting for social status. Fights of this nature (those over girls, territory, bragging rights etc) are usually done unarmed, and by a sort of one-on-one code. However these fights are easily avoided and further, are trumped by weapon use.
@ChuShinTani In that case , why not have a person acting as an actual attacker would ? Coming up behind you , grabbing you etc. I SERIOUSLY doubt a boxer is going to come up and roar "Give me your money!" and square off ready to take you down for your cash. Plus , your point of this video was to demonstrate REACH of the weapon your using right ? From the description : I think it nicely illustrates how the added reach of the club changes the boxing paradigm quite a lot.
@MrRagaRaga "In that case , why not have a person acting as an actual attacker would ? Coming up behind you , grabbing you etc."
Because that would look like Aikido technique, and if you looked at that without first seeing this you would say: "who is ever going to attack you like that, this is stupid, an attacker would just punch you"...
The point of the video is to look at the Juxtaposition of boxing technique, and Aikido technique. Lot's of things can be seen in that, reach is one of them.
@ChuShinTani I have a few more points. A.) Your standing on a foam mat, you might as well be training in sand (the boxer has zero traction , and since you have more reach , he has to move to you , and paradoxically , you don't) B.) what about some one who isn't a strait up boxer , how would the added 12 inches of your club work against the extra 48 inches of your man's leg ? C.) The "boxer" your using to reinforce your point is again , and angry toddler.
A.) If someone had "zero traction" they would fall down.
B.)Hold out a a 12 inch ruller, put your foot out, they have the same reach.
C.)Why you would argue that being unarmed is better than being armed is beyond all comprehension. If you don't understand why being armed is better than being unarmed, or why being armed is different than being unarmed I cannot help you. Your logic resembles that of the angry toddler you are so fond of talking about.
Is the point of this vid to show that an armed assailant is more dangerous than an unarmed one. If so what is this guy trying to prove. That the next time the "boxer" sees this guy in the street he should pull a gun? And that would be just as honorable. The way I see it the guy with the stick can't be mad if the boxer comes back with a gun. He has no interest in a fair fight.
@nogiwarrior The techniques found in Aikido come from weapon support systems (traditional Japanese Jujutsu). They are not designed to deal with boxing. Boxing is not designed to be used against weapons. They are mismatched systems, this video helps to show that.
I don't understand why you ask about a "fair fight". There are two kinds of fighting, one is for social status (for a girl, to prove who's tougher etc) the other is for survival. When fighting for survival, fair is not a consideration
Continued from last: Aikido is one of the few martial arts in the world that still rely very heavily on the principals of distance of movement for safety because the weapon focus is still there and is very realistic to hold reliability when even in todays world most people will grab a weapon if they have a chance.
I do have to make one statement before I shut up though. The Samurai didn't incorporate a "boxing" system more because of the 60-80lbs of armor they were wearing. While weaponry played into this, striking a metal or ceramic plate was just stupidity. Punching and kicking while in the cumbersome armor was also impractical. If it came to grappling range, throws and grabs only meant to better their chance of using the Tanto for the death strike.
i got a good luagh out of this, when i read the title i thought the aikido guy was going to use a ken or wooden katana, but no it is literly just a aikido guy beating another guy with a stick, he isn't even using the martial art aikido, just beating with a stick.
I think it is suppose to be a joke, in that case, hahahahahahaha, lol
Not a joke. A boxer is inferior to a guy with a stick. This is a demonstration of that. It's so obvious that no one seems to "get it". The techniques of Aikido are not meant to be used unarmed, but as a support system to weapons use.
This is no more a joke then when people ask, "how would Aikido deal with boxing in a boxing match". Well Aikido isn't a boxing system, so it wouldn't work at all. Much like boxing doesn't fair well against stick fighting.
@ChuShinTani Put someone who practices Panatukan against the one with the stick. Someone who's been practicing his art as long you have been practicing yours.
Just saying that boxing is inferior is what gets young martial arts students hurt at school when they go spouting off against a trained boxer even if they are holding a stick.
While I agree with your point of view that a weapon tips the balance. When it comes to fight time it depends on the skill of the fighters involved.
@LittleHazey Michael Varin (the boxer) has done as much, ore more training in boxing then I have in "stick fighting". A man with a weapon is physically superior to a man without a weapon, all other things being equal. Sure, put a 15 year old kid with a stick up against Roy Jones and the kid will likely get beat up, there are always exceptions to the rule. But as a general statement, armed people are better in a fight then unarmed people. The fact that this even needs to be stated is curious.
@ChuShinTani Because you made a blanket statement that a if a person is holding a stick he will defeat an unarmed opponent. I have seen people in street fights using club weapons against unarmed opponents and getting tackled after getting a couple shots in and getting hurt for it. It all depends on the fighter, the pain threshold, the skill of the weapon user. There are more factors involved in a real fight. While I again agree that the weapon puts it in your favor, it doesn't win the fight.
@LittleHazey I do agree with you. This is the area where Aikido technique comes in. When people rush at you to tackle, or find a way to control your weapon hand. This is why Aikido forms teach from wrist grabs and the dreaded "zombi attack" with attackers rushing in. As long as you can manage your distance and use your weapon, you are at the advantage. If your attacker can close the distance, and control your weapon, your advantage is gone. Aikido technique answers these questions.
Not a single gaykido idiot technique demonstrated. Furthermore, you needed to face the boxer with a club? WTF? Why do you get a club and he doesn't? This is absurd and gaykido is for LARPing idiots.
@Blndrfist So when people have a fight, if one person has a weapon then the other person automatically gets one as well? This is a weird concept to me. I see many Aikido techniques demonstrated here, mostly yokomen and shomen uchi. I don't see any "gaykido" though.
Why do you waste your time talking about something that you clearly don't like? Seems like a waste of energy.
I would call boxing a martial art, a sport martial art, but a martial art none the less. I don't understand your point about the sword. We are only sparring, not fighting to the death. Again this video simply is what it is, no more or less.
@rodrigoba100 that could be a form of real life aikido, when in need of assistance and no one is around use your surroundings ,mixing aikido with a stick you find on the ground could be a effective way to save your own life. Open you mind you close minded imbosol

GunZFoX 10 months ago
perhaps you'd have less success, were the 'boxer' not stuck in 16 oz gloves. It's a distinct disadvantage to not be able to use your hands to grab someone, when they can. Give him 4oz gloves, and you might have much more trouble.
clumsyninjascorner 10 months ago 3
@clumsyninjascorner Agreed, but that would be out of the scope of what is common "boxing". Not that boxers wear gloves all day, but the training in common boxing doesn't rely on grabbing, or anything else that cannot be done in boxing gloves. It's a silly situation, and meant to be. Just as silly as when people ask "how would Aikido do against a boxer", Aikido's syllabus doesn't train for that, so it wouldn't do very well. Boxing doesn't train for stick fighting, so it doesn't do well either.

HairofSteel555 1 year ago
if an opponent has a stick or club i or anybody in the right mind wouldnt be trying to block it directly. rather dodge for your life so u dont risk breaking your bones and then try and disarm, then start wailing on the person with or without the stick you took.
ziferzero77 1 year ago
@ziferzero77 I understand what you are saying. Understand though, this isn't a video prescribing a strategy for dealing with a stick. It's simply showing common boxing responses to someone trying to strike you. Boxing is designed to deal with unarmed people, so common boxing strategy, like covering, is a bad idea in a weapon fight.
It looks just as silly when you try to use Aikido strategy in a boxing context. Aikido and Boxing are designed for different contexts.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani oh i know, dont worry i read the description. i meant no harm, but when i first saw this i lol so hard and was like... wtf what's going on? and just felt like saying a strategy.
ziferzero77 1 year ago
@ziferzero77 Yeah, I think a lot of people are really surprised by this, and think it's pretty silly. But to me, it's just as silly as asking, "What would Aikido do against a boxers jab." Who knows, who cares, the systems were built for different things. If you want to learn how to box, you should just study boxing, instead of thinking there is a short cut to being a good boxer. Aikido is good at what it does, if people would only take the time to understand it.
Thanks for your comments.

Pretty poor footwork from the boxer...in fact I would venture that he isn't actually much of a boxer really. Where is the distance, movement and timing?
I get the point you are making it is just if you are going to demonstrate a move against a boxer you should get someone who can - i don't know - box maybe?
CalgaryPFS 1 year ago
@CalgaryPFS I'm sure his boxing ability is far beyond what you are going to get from 90% of the general populace. I didn't have a pro boxer on hand when we made this video.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani It's all good - like I said I get the idea, but maybe get his movement a touch sharper vis a vis footwork - otherwise it is Stick vs PUNCHER rather than a boxer
But it is awesome to see you taking things "outside the box"
CalgaryPFS 1 year ago
I think, that the boxer's tactic isn't efiicient to be used against a guy with a stick. If it were a real bat or smth, his hand and side would be injured bandly. I think that it would be better to be defensive and to wait for a moment when you would be able to clinch and then to continue on the ground. That should give him the ability to control the bat.
But I'm not an expert... After all I wet to Jiu-Jitsu just half a year. =)
MrIbuprofen 1 year ago

@vitormg180 We are peers, not teacher student. He is in no way afraid, and is trying to hit me. However it's easier to hit someone if you have a stick, then it is if you are unarmed. Sticks are long, they give you a reach advantage.

So, in your mind, what purpose does this video serve?
nogiwarrior 1 year ago
@nogiwarrior Reach advantage is an important factor. One that a weapon affords. Aikido techniques do not revolve around unarmed exchanges, but are instead designed around weapons work.
In addition unarmed martial arts systems are not well suited for dealing with weapons conflict. Different systems have their advantages and disadvantages. All too often people think only of unarmed systems as "martial arts", when in fact they represent only a very small percentage of what is out there.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani so maybe an apropriate response video would be some dude with a stick vs. me with a gun. that would show the importance of reach advantage and would make as much sense as this video. as a former marine, i can say most of my training revolves around armed combat. and all that would show the viewers exactly what you have, "weapon, good, no weapon, bad."
nogiwarrior 1 year ago
@nogiwarrior Yes. However I don't hear thousands of people saying what happens when a stick vs a gun. However I do hear all kinds of people asking, "how would Aikido deal with boxing". Well this is how, Aikido is a weapon support system, involving people controlling your weapon hand (wrist grabbing), done at distances that need to be covered quickly (rushing attacks). Aikido has it's paradigm just as boxing has a paradigm, when you see them out of place they look funny.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani well, you do seem to have a real love for your art and i do respect that. so, keep on keepin on bro. i have thouroughly enjoyed the vids you posted. keep it up.
nogiwarrior 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani How aikido will deal with a boxer. just bring plenty of ice for the knocked out aikido person
ToniMattTony 1 year ago
@ToniMattTony Aikido is a weapon support system. So most likely the boxer would be dead before he got into a range to use his boxing skill. If the boxer tried to hold the weapon hand, or rush at the Aikido practitioner (the only ways he can win when facing the weapon) The common techniques of Aikido will come into play. If the Aikido practitioner has trained against dynamic resistance (sparring) with his techniques, the odds will again in favor of Aikido.
In an unarmed fight you are correct.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani normally you have to be a black belt in something before you start doing aikido so the unarmed fight still is not decided

ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani Unarmed systems are more likely to be used. Do you carry around a stick everywhere you go? Most people don't like the idea that they'll need to rely on a weapon. Not to mention that "boxer" is about as skilled as a a pissed-off, windmill throwing 5 year old.
MrRagaRaga 1 year ago
@MrRagaRaga Most fights, for survival happen with weapons. People, when they feel their life is being threatened pick up whatever is handy, golf club, beer bottle, kitchen knife, rock, stick etc.
This is not the case when two males are fighting for social status. Fights of this nature (those over girls, territory, bragging rights etc) are usually done unarmed, and by a sort of one-on-one code. However these fights are easily avoided and further, are trumped by weapon use.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani In that case , why not have a person acting as an actual attacker would ? Coming up behind you , grabbing you etc. I SERIOUSLY doubt a boxer is going to come up and roar "Give me your money!" and square off ready to take you down for your cash. Plus , your point of this video was to demonstrate REACH of the weapon your using right ? From the description : I think it nicely illustrates how the added reach of the club changes the boxing paradigm quite a lot.
MrRagaRaga 1 year ago
@MrRagaRaga "In that case , why not have a person acting as an actual attacker would ? Coming up behind you , grabbing you etc."
Because that would look like Aikido technique, and if you looked at that without first seeing this you would say: "who is ever going to attack you like that, this is stupid, an attacker would just punch you"...
The point of the video is to look at the Juxtaposition of boxing technique, and Aikido technique. Lot's of things can be seen in that, reach is one of them.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani I have a few more points. A.) Your standing on a foam mat, you might as well be training in sand (the boxer has zero traction , and since you have more reach , he has to move to you , and paradoxically , you don't) B.) what about some one who isn't a strait up boxer , how would the added 12 inches of your club work against the extra 48 inches of your man's leg ? C.) The "boxer" your using to reinforce your point is again , and angry toddler.
MrRagaRaga 1 year ago
@MrRagaRaga
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@MrRagaRaga basically yeah a random attack from a boxer ain't happenin
abomb10 1 year ago
Is the point of this vid to show that an armed assailant is more dangerous than an unarmed one. If so what is this guy trying to prove. That the next time the "boxer" sees this guy in the street he should pull a gun? And that would be just as honorable. The way I see it the guy with the stick can't be mad if the boxer comes back with a gun. He has no interest in a fair fight.
nogiwarrior 1 year ago
@nogiwarrior The techniques found in Aikido come from weapon support systems (traditional Japanese Jujutsu). They are not designed to deal with boxing. Boxing is not designed to be used against weapons. They are mismatched systems, this video helps to show that.
I don't understand why you ask about a "fair fight". There are two kinds of fighting, one is for social status (for a girl, to prove who's tougher etc) the other is for survival. When fighting for survival, fair is not a consideration
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani so, in your mind what is the point of this demo?
nogiwarrior 1 year ago
Continued from last: Aikido is one of the few martial arts in the world that still rely very heavily on the principals of distance of movement for safety because the weapon focus is still there and is very realistic to hold reliability when even in todays world most people will grab a weapon if they have a chance.
LittleHazey 1 year ago
I do have to make one statement before I shut up though. The Samurai didn't incorporate a "boxing" system more because of the 60-80lbs of armor they were wearing. While weaponry played into this, striking a metal or ceramic plate was just stupidity. Punching and kicking while in the cumbersome armor was also impractical. If it came to grappling range, throws and grabs only meant to better their chance of using the Tanto for the death strike.
LittleHazey 1 year ago
Esse gordinho aí nem luta direito cara .-.
tutyxinho 1 year ago
i got a good luagh out of this, when i read the title i thought the aikido guy was going to use a ken or wooden katana, but no it is literly just a aikido guy beating another guy with a stick, he isn't even using the martial art aikido, just beating with a stick.
I think it is suppose to be a joke, in that case, hahahahahahaha, lol
joshman234 1 year ago
@joshman234
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani Put someone who practices Panatukan against the one with the stick. Someone who's been practicing his art as long you have been practicing yours.
Just saying that boxing is inferior is what gets young martial arts students hurt at school when they go spouting off against a trained boxer even if they are holding a stick.
While I agree with your point of view that a weapon tips the balance. When it comes to fight time it depends on the skill of the fighters involved.
LittleHazey 1 year ago
@LittleHazey Michael Varin (the boxer) has done as much, ore more training in boxing then I have in "stick fighting". A man with a weapon is physically superior to a man without a weapon, all other things being equal. Sure, put a 15 year old kid with a stick up against Roy Jones and the kid will likely get beat up, there are always exceptions to the rule. But as a general statement, armed people are better in a fight then unarmed people. The fact that this even needs to be stated is curious.
ChuShinTani 1 year ago
@ChuShinTani Because you made a blanket statement that a if a person is holding a stick he will defeat an unarmed opponent. I have seen people in street fights using club weapons against unarmed opponents and getting tackled after getting a couple shots in and getting hurt for it. It all depends on the fighter, the pain threshold, the skill of the weapon user. There are more factors involved in a real fight. While I again agree that the weapon puts it in your favor, it doesn't win the fight.
LittleHazey 1 year ago
@LittleHazey I do agree with you. This is the area where Aikido technique comes in. When people rush at you to tackle, or find a way to control your weapon hand. This is why Aikido forms teach from wrist grabs and the dreaded "zombi attack" with attackers rushing in. As long as you can manage your distance and use your weapon, you are at the advantage. If your attacker can close the distance, and control your weapon, your advantage is gone. Aikido technique answers these questions.
Good reply.

@ChuShinTani I think so much is misunderstood about Aikido, and this not only extends from observers but to the students and instructors as well.
