Because it's important to have competitors in this free market. If you look at situations where there are no competitors, it usually turns out bad. Take a look at the post office for example...how much more are we going to have to pay for stamps or services? I will tell you that if the post office got competition the price would start dropping. My point is when new good technology comes out it's good to buy into it...plus this video is old, google have come leaps and bounds since then.

That doesn't make sense, why would Jobs be pissed. Apple and Google have a really good relationship. In fact the Chairman and CEO of Goggle is Eric E. Schmidt. He is also part of the Board of Directors for Apple. I heard a rumor that Apple is planning on making a new iphone that uses Android, but its just a rumor.

well the quake thing is a video. it's the original demo. so it might just no have any good 3d rendering capabilities at al. PLUS: becuase of each phones individual hardware, the software would have to be rewritten for every phone... very time-consuming for programmers

It's not the iPhone, it is a touch screen module, I know, it sounds weird but Apple jumped on the patent for the Touch Screen Device, they didn't invent the technology. In the iPhone Keynote, Steve Jobs stated that they had patented it, as a joke to prevent rip offs, which is ironic given that they jumped at an opportunity.

I like opensource, it gives a possibilities which are closed to platforms like those from nokia, apple or microsoft (close source). So no I am really looking for first hardware with GA platform. My job is to create new product and services for smartphone platforms, I work for Iusacell (a CDMA carrier in Mexico) and now that I have tested the OSX of the iPhone/Touch and see this Google Android Video, I think that the new OS war will be between Apple and Google...even if they are getting along well right now...

Google and Apple are getting on so well because Eric Schmidt (Google CEO) is on the Apple board of directors. I think this GA platform will work on the iPhone in the same was X-Windows works on OS X - right along side the closed source applications, complimenting them in a way, offering alternatives. Of course it may end up as another platform war, but whatever happens, the consumer wins.
