  • I'm not impressed at all :( must of Pinoy kids would want Jolibee any ways! What a waste of my time!

  • Very heart warming! Congratulations Lance. Your almost voiceless message is loud and clear. I hope that your film will inspire people to positively change in their attitude. Thank you.

  • I'm speechless.....beautiful!!!!

  • Excellent. I think the music is quite fitting- a nice background without being distracting. A touching little vignette. Good work.

  • The simplicity of the film is awesome. I thought the music was appropriate! It was very touching and it moved me and I got choked up in the end! Thanks for sharing, Lance!

  • AMAZING !!!! CONGRATULATION sir !!! keep doing what you do and spreading the love through videography !

  • I cried! Very touching. I agree, music could use some improvement and the lack of dialogue added to the entire impact. I was deeply moved when the father pulled out a magazine cutout to copy for his table setting, like he really wanted everything to be perfect.

  • You hit on some universal themes which are easy to relate to: do our best with few resources, the love of a parent for a child, and remembering a birthday. Well done. I would have to agree the sound track could use some work and the musical score did not add to the story for me. I did like the fact there were almost no words except at the end and no editorializing.

Look forward to the next project you have.

  • Crying. :(

  • I love the film Lance. It made me cry. Thank you for this precious piece you created.

  • Awesome video Lance! It warmed my heart. I was invited to lunch at a friends house in San Pedro, Laguna. The kitchen was very much like the one in your video. It was a great lunch and I could tell my friends family went all out with this lunch. Thank you for sharing.

  • awesome!

  • Beautiful story... even without words, it spoke a lot of emitions.. However, I agree with chriscostello, I had a problem relating to your musical score... but it's your first short film...lots of time to hone your skills! Good luck!

  • "A story within a story" .... awesome ... well executed ... thank you for sharing this to us... (praying my daughter can do the same in the future) ... the message is right there.... God Bless!

  • great stuff... i believed that your dad was my classmate in high school... is Ida your auntie? congratz, great film!

  • Thanks, Lance for demonstrating love and human dignity without talking about it. Really, your film speaks a thousand words. I will not go into the technicalities but you are good.

  • I agree with tedvalva...it wasn't much of the type of food being served but rather the kind of preparation that went...it was done with the kind of love that a parent has for his/her child..this is I believe the message of this short film: love in poverty..

  • There is a message here and it is a beautiful and potent one

  • this is epic... this simple movie made my tears fall...

  • This made me cry.. Great Job!

  • i cried while watchin this

  • For a short film it carried off it's purpose beautifully..many longer films do not keep you involved to the end as this one I feel does..we can all relate..and hopefully remember it is indeed the thought that counts...a well made film..hope we see more !!

  • very heartwarming! I didn't think it was a birthday present at all. Was surprised at the end. Awesome!

  • Hi! i liked your vid. 1 thing though, i didnt think you had to zoom in the daughter's photo @ 1:38 bec @ 1:36 we could clearly see that the the guy had a daughter, but over all it was a pretty good short film. =)

  • It did touched my heart & it did made me cry . It didn't matter if you are rich or poor, what matters is if it is done from the heart, it is done then from the LOVE! Good job, Lance.

  • This really warm my heart. I don't have that kind of relationship with my father, but seeing this video makes me appreciate him more. Thank you for pulling this through. Good luck!

  • Awwwwww. <3

  • Sniff! Tatay was so sweet! Nakakatouch.

  • Just came back from an expensive steak dinner but this is way better than mine. The poor father doing all he can with what little he has. 10x better than my dinner because of his patience and caring. Thanks for the lesson.

  • And they actually tend to have the lifestyle of the rich as you said in this short, "Fine Dining"?

  • So the poor who can only afford so little for food can afford such high-class clothes?

  • heart warming, thanks for uploading!

  • Your choices of shots and coverage are great. Your music and sound editing are kind of horrible. It's a great message, but your execution is kind of sloppy. Don't get offended by my comments, I really think you have talent. It just needs a little refinement.

  • Beautiful. And thank you for portraying the poor with dignity.

  • magnificent... the story itself contains so much values... congrats to you...

  • simple and excellent, imaginative creative presentation...well done!

  • WOW!!! This is one of the best short films I have ever seen. Very touching and very moving I cried. Excellent excellent job!!

  • touching... congrats!

  • Ang husay.....

  • WYA brought me here ! :D great short film!

  • i know that i would be touched at the end, but didn't expect to breakdown and cry! well done sir. :)

  • This film really hits my emotion....more power......

  • I've had high expectations regarding this film, after reading an article about it from our school website. But I'm happy to say that this film definitely exceeded my expectations. I was moved by the presentation. Great job! (But I hope the music transition would be smoother next time :))

  • amazing!i read the article about you in the newspaper today and was curious of your video.Great work!more power to you!..I hope to see more positive films from you..God bless!:)

  • I admit to being cynical at first, I thought this was another hyped up story. But loved the "twist" at the end. Touching... I envy the daughter ;-)

  • this is so touching. i'm crying right now. well done!

  • wow.. i was moved by this short film..

best five minutes in my life.. thank you for this video.. :)

  • clearly, you are in the making of a great film-maker! i hope you hold tight to your ideals and continue inspiring the world!

  • omg .... im so touch D": i was like ... ' we eat like that with no worries or so ,and he had to try his best ... ' AH idk D": IM SUPER TOUCH D":

  • wicked good bro..

  • the plating part of the "steak" made me laugh

  • This short almost brought me to tears, thank you for sharing this.

  • THIS IS SUCH A MOVING FILM!!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

    MORE POWER !!!!

I HOPE YOU COULD MAKE MORE POSITIVE FILMS LIKE THIS !!!!

    BRAVO!!!! BRAVO !!!!! BRAVO !!!!!

  • WOW this made me cry! lance....I will share this video to all my friends...Congratulations to you...WINNER ka talaga...I'm your choreographer during the awarding of MOST 2011..

  • Oh gosh this made me cry! Such a beautiful film!

  • Powerful! Simply beautiful. Keep making beautiful and thought-provoking works of art like this one. Galing!

  • In such a short moment You touched my Heart, You made me Cry..Life is not Being Rich or having every expensive things. Sometimes it's the small things that means so much because it's filled with Love. Congratulations and I look forward to see more of your other inspirational videos. Be inspired and inspire the World. Thanks for sharing. You bring Dignity To Humanity even in a simple dinner came with a touch of Classiness and Touch of Love...Lots of It!

  • GREAT. THIS VID MADE ME CRY. :)

  • No dialogues yet powerful. You guys did an amazing job.

  • nakalimutan po niyang magmano.....

  • So poignant. You made me cry Lance.

  • thanks for all the feedback too! they warm my heart and I really read them all even if I am not able to respond to them all.

  • @DirectedByLance

    good job.

  • @ogumaravi6 The background music could be improved but the message this short film wanted to convey and emote is there and clear. The innate human love of a father to his child who'll go to extreme despite their dire life conditions to manifest his love. I'm sure the child here is more appreciative for this simple meal than any material things money can buy. Thanks for this film and Mabuhay si Itay.

  • lets try to keep this comment page free of hostility. I welcome all criticism, favorable or otherwise, as long as it is objective and not just mere bashing. we're all humans so lets treat each other properly.

  • awwww... :') nice one! Congrats Lance! :)

  • kewl! congrats for winning! keep it up! amateur man, nanalo din! kudos brader!

  • Very Touching :)

  • very nice! :)

  • I will share this on my site.

  • BRAVO!!!!!!

  • Two thumbs up, way up. Very nice Lance.... @JedBonwa, good job in bashing tuttkhan55 -->OUCH! hehe

  • love love love :)

  • my thoughts: dialogue at the last part of the video, though short, said a lot...the daughter greeting "good evening" in english, the father preparing dinner then goes over a cut-out picture of a table setting..it only goes to show that good manners, right etiquette is not only for the rich. It can be learned and taught if the willingness to be the best is taken seriously. Where is the mom? An OFW maybe?..like I said, this 5-minute short film said a lot even with the lack of dialogue. Gud job!

  • congrats man. naalala ko tuloy ang tatay ko sa film nato. even with the very little money my dad had, he would still go out of his way to make every occasion special. i loved this video.

  • Good story with a very powerful message and well told from a novel perspective. Congratulations are well deserved for this and for the award. If you'd care to, pls email me here; I might be able to share a few bits you might find useful for your next project. Keep it up, Lance!

  • I read this on newspaper..and I find time to watch it..very touching..you really deserve the award..=)

  • i read about this on the news this afternoon.

good job Lance! short and sweet is hard to beat!

  • Congratulations! That is a true "human dignity" kahit plastic at noodles lang yun, ang mahalaga pinakita yung effort at preparation ng daddy... kaka-touch naman... i think i tried to do it once for my Mom's Birthday! i made a cupcake special... sabi nga nila... "It's the thought that counts" Kudos Lance!

  • Good job, Lance... Keep on keeping on! Raise the Filipino flag even higher!

  • this "film" won an award? wtf...

  • @tuttkhan55 dude, go back playing dota or sniffing rugby. yes this film won an award! you got a problem with that?

  • @JedBonjwa no problem ahole, but im entitled to my own opinion. this film is badly edited, background music sucks, acting is wooden, and the topic is as cheesy as hell. worst five minutes spent in my live. and that includes the 10 seconds wasted for typing in this reply to your stupid ass reply to my comment.

  • @tuttkhan55 ok. make your own video and try to win an international award.

and by the way, go back to school study English well. You sound like a fifth grader.

  • @JedBonjwa I do make my own videos but NOT to win an international award. You obviously don't know anything about film making. And by the way, YOU go back to school and relearn English. Your grammar stinks like a fourth grader.

  • @tuttkhan55 you do realize this is an amateur video right? He did a very good job as such he won the People's Choice award at the recent Manhattan International Film Festival in New York.! now WTF are you to bad mouth his video. You're just jealous because the only thing that you're good at is playing dota, sniffing rugby or katol. now GTFO!! Jabroni!

  • @JedBonjwa you sniff katol? omg maybe that's why your brain is rotten to the core! and why would i be jealous of something that won a "people's choice" award? or any award for that matter? it doesn't mean anything to me. i know i what i don't like. and i don't like people who can't handle the truth. DISLIKE!!!!

  • @tuttkhan55 uhm...what part of my post did you not understand by the way? would you like me to post it in tagalog or bisaya? listen and listen carefully, if this video don't mean anything to you, why bother viewing it? now go and eat mothballs. KTHXBYE.

  • @JedBonjwa are you stupid? why would i listen to a typed in message? and what do you have against people from the visayas? are you implying that bisaya people are dumb? read this, retard: i am entitled to my own opinion. and i will say what i want in a PUBLIC forum. if you can't take that, then YOU post your own video.

  • @tuttkhan55 lmao. you took it literally? dude you are one dumb mofo... i feel sorry for you. please if you don't like this video get over it already. get outta here! we don't need pinoys with crab mentality. and stop blabbering about your "I am entitled with my own opinion" shit! post your opinion somewhere else where only you can read it. ...on a post it or something, maybe your notebook, or better on a manila paper.

  • @JedBonjwa ahahaha! who's the fifth grader now? fail...

  • @tuttkhan55 did you even try to analyze my posts. of course it has always been you. but I think you lack comprehension. This video is still very good whether you like it or not doesn't change anything! so deal with it!

  • so touching. congrats.

  • what a good film! this touched my heart! Love is a very powerful emotions that anybody can be moved to tears. thanks lance.

  • Goes to show how immense a parent's love can be for their child. No matter the circumstance they want to give them the best. Amazing video(:

  • never cried this before since watching titianic.

  • even if the movie is short, you conveyed the essence of true parental love and surely captivated your audience with its message. continue making sensible films, lance. . . never get to have you in my class when in was still in sr but i feel proud that you manifest the the virtues of a sr gentleman.

  • Cimorelli liked this! :D

  • 8 people who dislikes this video were those people who haven't experienced "fine dining"!

  • hoy lance pinakita ko to sa mga barkada ko. 7 out of 10 naiyak. ikaw na. ikaw na. ikaw na . :P

    congrats :D

  • @prodidyey: the thought of using cheaper food such as noodles, margarine and bread as food for a fine dining set-up shows poverty..and even his house, that was not the ideal place for fine dining..You do not need to focus only on the flow of story but also on its setting..just saying my opinion :)))

@ lance: that was very touching..may you be blessed with more opportunities.. May UPD help you discover more of your talents :))

  • Wonderful!

  • Simply Wonderful! Congratulations to you, Lance.

  • This is simply beautiful! This is a moving image of what I have always believed....when you have the joy of being loved and loving others, you are indeed richer than a king. Good luck at NYU....continue to send us these powerful messages.

  • There are times that I blame my father for sme bad things that comes up in our family.Thank U for makng evry pple and every son and daughter remember that fathrs might be considerd hard and insensitive... But behind that wall a gentle giant is always there to watch us. "I love you" fr all the fathrs and fr my Papa---"Stay the way you are"

  • pretty good. i liked the ending, hated the weird music part at around the 2 minute mark :| it just seemed to ruin the mood for me

We all hail from Lipa, Batangas. I hope that after you study film in NYU, you return here and make more movies with substance that would help elevate the quality of films here in the Philippines!

  • @Fenrir1201 : who are your parents? or your grandparents? I am doing the Katigbak Clan Family Tree of Lipa.

  • dude, thats an awesome dad right there.

  • Great Vid! Keep it up.

The ending was really touching. The cinematic colors and tight cropping on the flowers and bulalo added some drama.

Ang ganda, ang galing, but i somehow believe that the musical score can be improved. hindi solid ang pagpapalit ng bg music.

Keep it up! Hope to see more of these short films from you!

    God bless. (-:

  • ang galing! napaiyak mo ko :)

  • Thumbs up! galing kht hindi kita kilala kuya lace's bilib ako sa film mo galing solid! :) keep it up.

  • TANGINA baket ba may nag alikabok sa mata ko. >,< akala ko pa naman siya kakain pero sa anak niya pala. :((

    Swabe!

  • Great work! Was wondering where the meat went in the end shot of the table, but otherwise very well done. A tad heavy on the numerous scores used, but the cinematography was pretty good. Thanks for making this and sharing it to the world. Good luck on the festival.

  • thumbs up for this video! :) worth sharing...

  • I was crying all throughout this video! This is VERY VERY GOOD. It's just too good!

  • HI Lance, congratulations. I am Julian's dad. He just told me about this and just watched it. Its an excellent short film and deserving of being in the Manhattan International Film Festival. It was very touching. Most importantly am so proud that you can produce a world class short film with the universal human interest theme - an SR boy just like my son. Just shows the quality of education - congratulations to SR - and upbringing - congratulations to your parents as well. God bless you

  • @closeencounter78 Thanks a lot, Tito! I'm glad my SR education shows. :)

  • @closeencounter78 I am curious. What does SR stand for?

  • @anohbey SR stands for Southridge School for Boys

  • I am absolutely touched by this video! Thank you for the time, energy, talent and love that you have shared through this art work. I think this was artfully done and its message tastefully executed. Although from my middle class perspective this might look like "a video about poverty" as some comments say, one can also view this as primarily a video about a father's love for his daughter. I mean, the father has some serious cooking skills and could afford meat and such. =)

  • Nice film, Lance. I was so touched! Congratulations on making it to Tisch and for getting your film featured at the Manhattan Film Fest. :)

  • Where's poverty there? I only saw LOVE, dignity, and the unconquerable nature of the human soul.

    Far out Direk.

  • @prodidyey kaya nga "FINE DINNING" d naman sinabing "POOR"

  • @prodidyey POOR DINING ba gusto mo?

  • @prodidyey poverty because he can't send his child to a restaurant. that's not far. :)

  • @yamitochamito

Yep, I know. But you can't blame a single father of six (that's me) to appreciate JUST the positive messages this video brings. God bless. :)
