The old woman, Amelia, is speculated to be an Amelia Earhart story. As in her plane disappeared - when it crashed on the island. I thought that was a nice touch of the producers.

thats not true because whe ben has the surgery she asks jack to kill him, she says its a hard procedures no one would blame you! but jack doesnt! at that time jack didnt trust her so she had no reassurance that jack would take her, so jack was a whimm and ben was still her best option!
