I have a 67 mustang glasspack shortys thinking about running open headers with electronic shutoff when driving. Any suggestions? Is it a smart idea? My car is 1 of 6 in the world from caracas venuzuela with 12k on it. Its a rally racecar. Please if you have any info on how it may effect my engine/power/safety comment or facebook me Nathan Loos. Be careful running open headers it damages valves, while it sounds great you run the risk of valvetrain failure, if you still want to run open headers you are safer with longtubes rather than shortys. p.s. the car sounds great!

@67mustangboy That's just a rumor. Personally, I only think it would do damage if the motor got completely warm and you were running shorty headers. Most people don't because those are mostly just for emissions laws. Stupid Cali, I hate it here lol.

@67mustangboy From the factory, the engine is designed to run with back pressure. Take away the back pressure, and you start burning exhaust valves. If you tune the engine, you can safely drive the car with no back pressure and open heads for that pants wetting sound.

when you shut the engine off the rapid cooling of the valves can cause potential damage if you are running open MANIFOLDS, but these are LONG TUBE HEADERS. by the time any "cool" air gets to the valves its already been heated by the length of the headers. and it being a ford has nothing to do with it. ford chevy mopar whatever its all the same basic principle, the same thing would happen.
