anyway 2009 was no failure at all:) there are so many people who`d give their all to be 3rd in LeMans just once..brandnew car high risk all or nothing ..still they tried and got out alive..
@Spionsilver 3rd for Audi is failure. They only go to Le Mans to win, especially since they know that Peugeot is the only car that can match them under the current diesel/petrol rules.
@gturner38 you can´t win everytime..but you can try..thats what the Audi crew does best.. try and try ,loose some win more and keep pushing until everybody gets sick of it;) still a lot of credit to Peugeot..they are the ones that stand up to the mighty Audi crew..the rest has chickened out long ago cuz they couldn´t compete with TDi..
@Spionsilver I wouldn't say the rest chickened out. The fact is they can't/won't spend the money Audi and Peugeot do, especially if you need to build a diesel to win, which Aston Martin has no need for off the track. So while the petrol cars race for best of the rest, you have a two team competition which Audi lost. While some would say "At least wwe tried," I don't think that's in most top level racer's makeup. When you've won LM 8 times like TK has, why be happy with 3rd?
@gturner38 in the end it is sad.. that only 2 teams are battling..LeMans isn´t only for the win...it is for beating the clock in first place..it is for prestige..pride honor and tradition..dont go under without putting up a descent fight..i liked it when audi raced in 2009 despite all the doubts over the new car..they showed a lot of courage..so did peugeot over the years and they took their shot in 2009..i wonder how long nissan toyota ford mercedes bmw and chevy gonna be scared.. ;)
@Spionsilver Truth be told, Audi's 2009 efforts showed corporate shortsightedness more than courage. They cut their racing program to look like they were saving money. They ended up renting tracks for a huge amount of testing, which didn't accurately replicate race conditions. They would have learned more for less cost by cutting testing to go race, but had to look good in the face of the fiscal crisis.
To Audi's credit, they did manage to finish third on the podium at the race, and then next year came back and beat Peugeot to pieces sweeping the podium. @011, who knows, but it will be one epic battle.
Can't wait to see Porsche back in LMP1 kicking some serious diesel asses while going for the overall nr. 17. History will be rewritten in the next few years, I'm pretty sure :)
@DARTCG As long as Audi is racing in LMP, Porsche won't. It wouldn't make sense to have two closely relate manufacturers compete. So, don't expect to see Porsche looking for another overall Le Mans win any time soon. However, we most likely will see Porsche in F1 very soon if those universal engines come out.
I think it's way more than a simple dream due the possible failure of the world engine during the last few days.
Porsches Head of Development Dr. Dürheimer also stated that Porsche is more likely to set for a Le Mans return instead of F1. If things really behave that way we may see Audi to debut in F1 with Sauber.
As far as I assess Mr. Kristen and Mr. Steinhauser Porsche Motorsport is kicking their heels for a starting signal on a new LMP1. Lets hope so...
Your analysis is simplistic. It's widely well known that Audi sandbagged in qualifying for all their longer distance races to get certain positions on the start grid. This was especially true at Le Mans for the complex team tactics to come into play. Peugeot was probably doing it a little also. Qualifying times are a pretty useless gauge of a cars real potential in longer distance LMP races. The R10 could of easily did a 3:18(or better) if their tactics had called for it that year.
Audi needed to stick with the R10's V12 engine!!! Why go to a V10 in the new R15 when the 12 cylinder in the R10 was kicking some serious ass.You don't bring a knife to a gunfight guys. The title of this vid should be: Audi racing hubris dashes chance of win at Le Mans. Peugeot capitalized on this and had some very good drivers. I must admit It was really cool seeing those three French 908's go across the finish line at the end though.
Your comment is wrong. The R15 WAS quicker at Le Mans than the R10. McNish during the first qualy was 3:18 while the R10 fastest time(set by McNish in 08) was a 3:23. Im a big Audi supporter also. Peugeot had to win in 09,if they didnt and the R15 beat them, they would have never shown there faces at Le Mans ever. It was there time to pounce since Audi had a new car and Peugeot had ran theres since 07
@joelmafonso Yeah that's about right. Audi did not have enough time to prepare the R15 for Le Mans. Also Peugeot has a problem. The 908 HDi-FAP is going to have to be scrapped at the end of the year because of the 2011 regs. Audi I think will modify the R15 so it can confirm with the regs, which I hope they do anyways. I like Audi and Peugeot, they rock! I will really miss the old regs because I just simply hate V8's! V10's and V12's are the best engines ever! F1 needs these back.
I think 2:24 - 2:44 is actually upsetting a little, the shots and the song real remind me of everyones overall performance at Le Mans. My favorite shot is at 2:25.
Well how would you feel if you wrecked one of your million dollar + Audi R15 TDIs? I think that it huge lol. Porsche got first in their class. It would have been a 1-2 if the NAVI Goh team wouldn't have locked up over the barriers and crashed at the first chicane.
Audi has won Le Mans a couple of times in a row and have wrecked at least 1 car but was that a big failure? I dont think so... anyway - It was time for Peugeot to win, because 2 years they've had big failures (especially last year) but did someone cared? Why should someone care that Audi lost one of their cars and the two others didn't have power to reach the Peu. Please...Porsche has had the biggest failure this year - 1 of 7 cars reached the finish line (the RSR - I consider DNF)
I'm not talking about GT class racing. I'm talking about prototypes, if I knew you were talking about Porsche overall, yest that is huge. But, the thing that makes me mad is you said Peugeot had a big failure especially last year, Peugeot had 2 spots on the podium last year. Audi only had 1 this year.
Aspect ratio is screwed up but you have done very well... Sadly my computers charger broke so I may not to be able to upload the second version for a while...
