I'm using this to help with my Enlish lit a level study of A View From The Bridge.... to be honest, I don't care that Alfieri is played by a female, she does an excellent job of portraying the character and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this introduction to A View From The Bridge.
alfieri has an important role he's not only the narrator or the family lawyer he's also the bridge between tribal and american law hence the title of the play
she's sighing out almost all of her energy on some of her lines leaving little energy left for the line itself. unfortunate because she has talent. but this is high school so, good job even so!
I think shes a great actress and i still like it having a woman play it but i thought that it was important to have a man playing alfieri because italian-american women weren't often in the roles of lawyers in those times..?
Some bits of the first monologue i found very strong, but most of it was weak.
And I can see why some people don't like him being played by a woman. Some lines just seem better when they are done loudly, with power. I would've just been bored at the end of that scene.
Originally, Alfieri is a man but some production companies may not be able to obtain a man to play the role, so they could either change the gender of the character in a play or dress up the woman as a man.
Hey everyone that did their eng lit exam too today, how did it go? Mine went better than expected, the questions weren't too bad - the one about the audiences response to Eddie was easy, and which question did everyone pick for the 20mrk question? I picked c. the one about Eddie and Beatrice's relationship throughout the play. Think i did ok :) x
the pacing thing, i notices that too!! it annoyed me so much, for god sake, did no one think to stage her performance, or was it actually intentional. it didn't even look natural either, that's the worst thing!
I played alfieri in our school reading, I was so proud..

Alfieri's gender wasn't important in this play, just his role. So it's not important whether he's played by a man or a woman.

I appreciate this because I don't have the play with me at home, have an essay to do and I haven't read the 2nd act. So this should be good.
