I have been researching my family history and have discovered that I am of Cherokee descent. I am so thrilled with this, I don't care what form that takes. You can call me Indian, First People or Native American. I know that I'm Cherokee. And it's BEAUTIFUL!! There's a picture of my grandfather on my family tree at a well known ancestry website. I've also learned a lot of our country's history through my research, talking with Indians and other researchers.

I love how the uneducted assume it only happened in the past, while infact its still happening. David Paterson is giving "The Six Nations of New York" a hard time with a tax issue that could close down the smoke shops. If that happened, it would bring serious financial hardship to the Six Nations. It's unforgivable how they treated the natives of Mexico, Central America, and South America. The only decent thing the Spaniards did was introduce the horse to the Aztecs, Mayas, and Incas. However, I thought Columbus was strictly an explorer and didn't give anybody trouble. The British screwed Tecumseh in the War of 1812, and the settlers were greedy for land and gold.

I don't think the Indians tried to share - I think they tried war over and over again and that resulted in extermination. The Native American cultures were based on warrior society, killing was a way of life. Their existence was based on their courage, willingness to kill to survive.

I'm not Native American, except for what my mother has told me that there is a small amount, but even though I'm not a Native American, I would still fight and wouldn't think twice about dying for the way of thinking that was held up so high by the Native Americans. The way that they lived by was pure. I really have to agree with the others. When you try to "represent" that shows greed and a self want that I don't think is very Native American. I understand trying to promote Native Americans but
