@goodwolf359 Her introduction was the highest-rated episode in the show's history excluding 9 of the first 10. The several episodes directly following it followed the normal decline that follows a season premier, but remained higher than their counterparts from other seasons. That may have been in part because of good writing and advertising, because I remember that was a period where they made many changes and the show's promotions were very visible.
@goodwolf359 the ratings peaked the first few episodes after she was introduced due to bigger publicity, but it is a stubborn rumour that the character of 7o9 actually saved the series. In reality, the ratings dropped below the numbers of the third season.
Damn, it just goes to show that Jeri Ryan was such a good actor...so naturally the demean her character by having her walk around in heals and a catsuit.
When she joined the show the ratings probably went nuclear, she was a great addition to the show and well let's be honest, I would watch Jerri Ryan read a phone book.
Love Jeri, good actor and great sense of humor, and great head on her shoulders. In a way some people actually undersell her because she is extremely attractive, but she is the complete package.
Dear Youtube. I'd like to take this chance to inform you of a misconception you've seemed to form based on my viewing of TNG and TOS clips along with some fan made Wars vs Treks clips. I am indeed a fan of ToS and TNG. As such I would appreciate your linking to Voyager and Enterprise clips and the tng movies to cease. As I stated, I'm a trek fan, I don't watch that berman and braga shite. I believe a science officer should talk like the computer but not have more silicone than it does in it.
@Fektthis if you don't like Berman and Braga, better quit wacthing TNG. Also, Jeri is all natural, so I don't get the silicone remark. I agree B&B made some bad decisions, but their shows weren't horrible, I've seen worse.
@greenrangerv1 brandon braga wasn't a writer on tng until 91, half way into the series. he was not the only writer either. ryan's boobs are fake. she admitted it on anderson cooper. she got the implants as a teenager. not even sure how you could even mistake them for real.
@Fektthis although, i agree, his tng stuff wasn't nearly as bad as the later. others had fleshed out the characters before he got there is why imagine this is so. seriously how well developed are the supporting cast in voyager or enterprise. which before you say it, yes, that was a big problem with tos as well.
@jimbopumbapigsticks every movie i've seen her in she IS a bimbo. the thinking behind her costume was that she's borg. borg are about efficiency. purring her in a three piece suit would not be efficient. the clothes would get caught or something. getting your sleeve caught on a loose screw in a jefferies tube during a ship battle could cost lives. having to spend time on putting clothes on means less time you have to use to do your job.
This episode just reinforced Jeri Ryan's acting ability as brilliant. I thought she deserved an award for her acting. She truly was an amazing and talented as well as beautiful addition to the cast.
Kate Mulgrew HATED the idea of introducing a sexy female character on the show,Seven of Nine. She felt it demeaned the quality of the series for the sake of ratings by focusing on the prime audience of the show,15 -30 year old males! Sorry Cap'n, you were dead wrong! The quality of Jeri Ryan's work speaks for itself! Her range of acting seemed unlimited and every episode that did not allow her to shine was forgetable. On a personal note, I prefered episodes with Seven in a Starfleet uniform...
Wow I never saw this episode. I am not typically a big fan of this sort of thing though (silly characters, or characters acting out of character), not sure why, really.
@EGRJ Jeri Ryan is a wonderful actress. Unfortunately, being cast as an emotionless cyborg doesn't exactly leave a lot of room for creative expression.
But hell, at least she was stuck with the role for only 4 years and the character was allowed to explore her humanity from time to time. Poor Tim Russ was stuck as a Vulcan for 7 years... Even Brent Spiner was able to play with Data's exploration of human emotion for most of TNG's run...
@Dargonhuman Yeah, but isn't it harder to be expressionless? Jeri Ryan is normally a very upbeat, cheery person, so this shows her skill in acting. Plus there was that episode where she had to play the doctor... 'Body and Soul', I believe. Now THAT was hilarious. XD
Given Ferengi attitudes towards women (in particular, their law prohibiting women from wearing clothes), imagine if it had noticed it was in a female body. If that had happened, Voyager would still be going strong.
@Dargonhuman Not in the UK my freind. All they would have had to do over here is put it on after 9pm (the "watershed" for all the violence, swears and HBO programmes).
Odd (or fortunate) that 9pm is pretty much the exact time all the teenagers settle down in their rooms with homework and dinner out of the way and put the TV on.
@randomface54 That's fine for UK-produced programming, but Voyager was made in the US and had to adhere to US network rules.
On that, though, violence and most swearing is ok after 7pm here, but graphic nudity is still off-limits at all times on network TV. You have to subscribe to premium channels to get that.
@Dargonhuman They did broadcast Voyager in the UK though, as well as unrelated HBO programmes without the need for premium channels. We just have to wait a few weeks from the US release before most American stuff is broadcast over here, as is probably true with British programmes in the US.
@Dargonhuman Just a heads-up, currently Britain has a Conservative (sort of posh Republican) government and the EU membership's bleeding us dry so we're pretty screwed as well.
The show itself is really Khul!!! It's too bad that it's been running on for so many years that a lot of people in N. A. are simply tired of it.(Make a cooler show for the Trekies!!!
What fun! Borg and Ferengi, two of my favorite alien races. : D
And the Doctor and Seven are also two of my favorite characters, fancy that! : )
This episode I don't recall, I'll have to check it out. It could be the two Ferengi that were stranded in the Delta Quadrant or the Ferengi interfering with the Long Range Deep Space Aray that allowed for communication with earth. ???
@TheRadical42 The two Ferengi stranded in the Delta Quadrant were in the episode 'False Profits' , Season 3 Episode 5. They also escaped back to the Alpha quadrant via the Barzon (?) wormhole. Haven't gotten to the other episode with the Long Range Deep Space Array yet...
i love this ep cauase it centers around my fav character and she is great during this part and the part where she was a klingon and that part wen she did the vulcan and the little girl. Forget it this whole ep was great jeri ryan is an awesome actress
@terrywest111 I've seen her on a bunch of shows. I know she was on Leverage, and Psych. She's a regular on Body of Proof, but I'm not sure if it's off air until fall or if it was cancelled.
@skilly123 Who says the Ferengi knew if they were obsolete or not? More likely trying to convice J and D to take her (7/9's gender since the Ferengi's is not mentioned, authough it is most likely male) up on the offer of new supplies, whether they were good quality or not, especially with a 30% commission. Typical Ferengi profit-mongerers
