I spent a good amount of time with Terry, and he was a very giving and gracious guy. I helped him record some fairly basic backing tracks in my small studio, and helped him with some album covers and press photos. He was so appreciative and acted like every small thing I did for him was the best thing ever - he was a great guy.
My late husband would play Amazing Grace to me on his little "Marine Band" harmonica, so sweet that it would bring tears into my eyes. Terry brought this back to me and I'm grateful. I am sad he's gone from us but happy he has gone to glory-
My heart is hurting hearing this about Terry McMillan, I didn't know till now that he had died. When? Can you tell me more? I loved his playing years ago on TBN and now I'm sad knowing he is no longer with us. But I can see him sitting at the feet of Jesus playing It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. Rest in Peace, Terry.
To me, a man can be "judged" by the friends he keeps and the things that are said about him after his death. After reading all the flattering things that have been said here on youtube about Terry McMillian it is obvious that he fulfilled his purpose of birth in that he shared his love of Jesus with others. This is the kind of person you truly love, being able to talk about anything and know that it will not be repeated. It is good to cleanse one's heart sometimes by talking. Peace of God.
Terry McMillan my Mentor will be missed i have prayed for this mantle and i know that it has been passed and im going to continue practicing. If the ones that read this could you please listen to my video of my talent quest.
Terry was a dear friend of mine and my brother, he played on a all of the walker brothers recordings when we were working with Ron Haffkine, we called and he was there. I goi close with t when he brough jesus back into his heart he was like my other brother, a wonderful talent. I found out terry had passed from Tony Stampley, they were always together, i ask "wheres Mcmillan" he said he died last night man.......we will play together again in heaven. God rest his weary soul
One of the very best, and a true friend. We grew up together in Archdale, and we played in bands together in high school. I taught him how to play "Train Time" by Cream on harp and he blasted off from there. Whenever I was in Nashville, he let me stay at his house so I wouldn't have to get a motel room. He called my mom and I when my dad died to say how sorry he was and that dad gave him his first job. A truly caring, loving individual, demons within or not, he gave his talent to us all.
@bagfed1 Hi,I am very sorry for the loss of not only an amazing harmonica player, but your frynd.I would have loved to have known him.I am not a church goin' man but I am a catholic,I talk to God all the tyme.I can't imagine Terry's childhood, but he became a very loving and good man.I hope the memories you two shared will comfort you through hard tymes.
Oh my... I know Terri back in our high school days. We used to take turns at the drums teaching each other new kick beats and solos... Spent many hours doing this. He played left handed and I played right handed... made for some fun. He was in a class of his own to be sure. I remember him even becoming a pretty dare good piano plaer too.... like to pay classical by ear. Amazing guy. I miss him tons.
Jimmy Carter - THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THIS TUNE, a great interpretation of one of the Christmas classic tunes, its January 1, 2010 here in the philippines, Surigao City, AND i feel its still christmas when i come across this haunting, cool, meditative tune.
This brings tears to my eyes in a good way. He was my friend for over 29 years and i never seen this. I met Terry at a swimming pool in 1978. He invited me and my brother to his house that night. From that time on we were like brothers. That's the kind of man he was. The last time I spoke to him on the phone he said I love you brother. I attended his funeral and I've never stopped thinking of him since. I will always think of him from time to time. You can't forget someone like Terry, ...David
@Bigd5613 Keep Terry in your heart and know what people down here don't. His father kicked his mother down a flight of stairs because she had conceived. His childhood was a nightmare of drugs, alcohol, yet our "sweet Jesus" gave him a magnificent spirit and talent and he found God. I, too, still cry but when our spirits go to be with Jesus.......remember, Bigd5613, Terry is there and you will be it sounds like to me.....We will never forget Terry! What an inspiration and person he was....
@Bigd5613 I envy you very much.I seen the video of Terry playin' This Train is Bound for Glory about 5 months ago through Harmonicas & Stuff on Facebook. I was and still amazed at his spirit & talent.I wish I could have spent some time with him.I am so sorry for the loss of your daer friend.I am not even in the same ball park of a harp player as Terry. I do though enjoy playing it. I play Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird to & for all people who pass on.I played it for Terry. When I herd he passed.
Jack Jarrett? Holy cow!! I live in Trinity now. grew up here. I remember Mr. Jarrett. He was at trinity just before John Sullivan. WOW!! Small world!!
I knew Terry personally a long time ago, we used to go to the same church. He is the reason I first picked up a harmonica, I'm no where near as good as he was of course but I do my best. He and his music are and will continue to be missed.
Thanks so much for sharing this. I only got to see him perform in person one time in Dallas, Tx. but was a hugh fan. This is so beautiful, so much Terry. For someone who came from such a sad beginning, he rose to be the best in his field, and blessed so many.
I actually met Terry in summer of 1978, he came to our local fair. I was going to ask him if he wanted to hang out after the show, he was there with Stella Parton. I was too chicken, of course I always regretted that. but I enjoyed his music, and always remembered meeting him.
I played in and around Nashville for 20 yrs, and new Terry well. I was fortunate to have been involved in several jams with him, and also new him within the studio environment. I always admired him, and considered him a friend. I have been away from Nashville for many years, and I was saddened today when searching the web, that he passed. He was such a great player, and it was an honor knowing, and playing behind him. Rest In Peace my friend, for you are missed by many.
Truly the best. Terry was my idol. I spent hours as a kid growing up copying every lick from Terry McMillan that I could get my hands on. I miss him very much.
this man did "Getcha Some" for Toby Keith and his signature piece is still "Aint goin down till teh sun comes up" Garth Brooks. I'll miss you Terry R.I.P (how about you teach them angels to really "Harp"!!
Wow, I had never seen this. Terry was and is one of my favorite harmonica players that continues to inspire me in my playing. I had always hoped to some day jam with him. That day will be a long time from now. He was an amazing musician and his testimony is very powerful. He is playing amongst angels now.
Yes, Terry's family found it. Peggy just posted it on Facebook. Thanks, Jimmy.

Terry and I were raised in a little place (Trinity, NC)
We were in the band together
I saw Terry at his beginning (rough at times)
He was a different person of the times, but, turned out to be a fine man
We are very proud of who he was and his talent
Our Band Director Jack Jarrett looked down from heaven on this person for years with pride
Well, my dear friend, you are with him now
Heaven has the sweetest harmonica music ever
Live on in our hearts
Thank you for the memories
