I visited Hawaii back in '03.

I travelled near the southeastern coast near an active lava site, crawing ever so slowly towards the sea. It's really unbelievable just how hot lava actually is.

I used the old film cameras with no zoom and had to get close to capture the shot. From just 6 feet away, the heat feels like that of an oven on broil. It was absolutely impossible to get any closer.

Truly awesome and spine-tingling as I recall it.
