Point me to a more reliable source that says differently and I'll be happy to admit that I wrote the lyrics incorrectly, I'm not being a dick by the way, just trying to show you why I may have been wrong or how you may be wrong yourself.

@Benny5421 Not sure I understand the comment, but no, obviously I am not proud of them. Not that I knew them too well, but there is a lot of ambiguity. Loving them for being my gradfathers, being upset seeing they were Nazis. Not easy.
Am I proud of my children? Well, think I did a good job with them. So yes.
Am I proud of anything that was given to me for free? No, but I often feel happy or grateful about it. Happy to have the opportunities to live and move around Europe for example.
Well, I suppose you are right, there are different ways to look at it. It is good to be living in a place one likes with the people one understands. Being proud in that sense is different from being proud as in discrimiating against others for not havindg been granted the same privilege. I would probably use another word than proud. I would probablu use happy.

@crossline7 America did'nt fill our treasury after WW2, we didnt have enough money to run the empire but more than enough to run our own nation. Whewe despanded the empire we got a huge influx of money. So if WW2 had never happened the British Empire would probably still exist in some shape or form.
The russians were already in Berlin (and we were wearing down their western front), you lot stepped in and took all the glory for British and Russian losses in Europe, you barely helped in Europe.

Second of all, With out American troops in both WWI and WWII, you would of eather lost the war, or become common protectorates of Germany and her allies. @crossline7 Firstly, the lend lease act was for war supplies not money, secondly we would have won the war regardless of US remember, 'We will fight them on the beaches' speach, we will never surrender, we would never have given up or submitted to the germans, thirdly we survived to battle for Britain and won! Then hit back with full fury. The US did the least and took all the glory for British, french and russian losses which counted in the millions!

Very nice video! These anthems engendered a feeling of patriotism in myself, and I'm not even British. In fact, I'm just an American with an intrinsic love of British culture, and history, comparable only to my own nation, and State of Indiana. The American equivalent of this video would be, The Star Spangled Banner, followed by , America the Beautiful, which are just magnificent songs, give them a listen sometime, and see if you feel the emotion as much as I feel toward your own anthems.

Proud, "1. Feeling or showing pride: "a proud grandma of three boys"."
pride, "Be especially proud of a particular quality or skill."
In other words, you don't have to be proud of something you did nothing to achieve to achieve that specific thing.

@crossline7 America did'nt fill our treasury after WW2, we didnt have enough money to run the empire but more than enough to run our own nation. Whewe despanded the empire we got a huge influx of money. So if WW2 had never happened the British Empire would probably still exist in some shape or form.
The russians were already in Berlin (and we were wearing down their western front), you lot stepped in and took all the glory for British and Russian losses in Europe, you barely helped in Europe.

Second of all, With out American troops in both WWI and WWII, you would of eather lost the war, or become common protectorates of Germany and her allies. @crossline7 Firstly, the lend lease act was for war supplies not money, secondly we would have won the war regardless of US remember, 'We will fight them on the beaches' speach, we will never surrender, we would never have given up or submitted to the germans, thirdly we survived to battle for Britain and won! Then hit back with full fury. The US did the least and took all the glory for British, french and russian losses which counted in the millions!

Very nice video! These anthems engendered a feeling of patriotism in myself, and I'm not even British. In fact, I'm just an American with an intrinsic love of British culture, and history, comparable only to my own nation, and State of Indiana. The American equivalent of this video would be, The Star Spangled Banner, followed by , America the Beautiful, which are just magnificent songs, give them a listen sometime, and see if you feel the emotion as much as I feel toward your own anthems.
