  • I'll admit, your snake is good, but there were some minor things you could have done to be better.... such as, being snake and letting him live until 190%. It almost looked like you wanted him to stay alive. I noticed that you didn't use a single down tilt, and there were sometimes where you had an attack of opportunity but didn't take it.

Although, I will admit, that that Link seemed slightly better than lvl 9 Links I've played. but then again, sometimes lvl 9's can do magical things

  • @Guitarmaster7272

The video wasn't made to display my skill, if you read the article linked in description, I state that I've never really used Snake much, but that I did have some interest to play him in the future.

Also, video was posted in 2008, when DSF's Snake was considered unstoppable. lol

  • AN ENTIRE GAME OF RUBBER BAND AI CHARACTERS 0.0 I suddenly don't want Metal Sonic in the next one anymore...

  • I've actually had an Olimar pivot grab on me a couple of months ago. I was like What??

  • I got pissed off the first few times CPUs taunted me. Especially Peache's annoying taunt. Now I realise it's just Karma.

  • There should be a point in SSB4 where you train CPUs to fight each other in tournaments whose with me?

  • I don't like the fact that they read our moves and perfect shield. (Link perfectly shielded all of snake's standard punch combo) I try to perfect shield, but by prediction. I did a one stock match me as link, cpu as snake, I think I only did one attack, he went off the stage (not the side blast line) used his cypher too late, and clipped himself under the ledge I thought he would have gone over. I have it on replay's, I will record it for YouTube sometime soon. showing one fatal flaw in SSBB AI.

  • the way the cpu fights on lvl 9

    1. will Perfect shield.

2.Edgehog, and if you do so cpu will fail hard at recover

    3. rape kids that train on the same cpu because it will learn your combo and you will get out played by a computer that can read your moves

  • no wonder u lost, u were snake

  • So the AI is learning...

  • hax

  • i fight the same cpu way too much and now he perfect shields everything

  • cpu's are dicks they only go after me when there are 3 of them i might as well put them all on the same team and put team attack on ><

  • @BlazeZ75 Ive done that on lvl 9 its actually not that hard depending on how long you have played SSBB

  • 3:10 anyone noticed the mortar dissapeared??? CPUs cheat ..

  • @tuubkerstboom

lol that's due to me hitting balloons half the time XD.

  • you should show your cpus as of 2011 now lol

  • @darkdragoon1000

Problem is, I haven't played Brawl in forever, and it hasn't really seen much action from tournament play. =/

I should have done a video fresh off Genesis (international tournament 09) who knows, if I end up going to Genesis 2 and I happen to take my Wii. I'll do a video update. :)

  • @ChurroEmiliano sweet btw when is genesis 2

  • I actually tried teaching the CP how to powershield, and it actually did use powershielding after being taught how to use it. Before I taught it how to do so, it did not do powershielding at all. However, you would have to teach it the situations of when to powershield because it is situation specific in my experience. Is the CP experience system this good in an unmodified game and system?

  • Crouch taunting (teabagging) by CPUs makes me laugh harder than anything on the planet. Too bad Link didn't do it this match. Though, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had.

  • @UniformConfusion

at the time I recorded this, crouch taunting had never really been done on my Wii by anyone.

As of late 09, they more so started to pick it up a lot more.

  • Comment removed

  • @UniformConfusion My computers do that to me all the time. Fucking assholes.

  • @damandatwin Hahahahha. Mine do it too. I made a video of all the characters that have done it on mine.

  • I remember short hopping then shining with fox a lot, then the CPU fox, who had previously never done this, started doing it relatively often.

  • CPU's don't learn.

This video and the original article as BS.

  • @dantarionX

You know Eric, I would have expected better from you, at the very least give an explanation as to why you say what you say. flatter me.

Your ego must be off the roof now that you're "good" at Marvel. What an accomplishment.

  • @ChurroEmiliano How did marvel get involved with this. If AI learn, then the "learning data" must be transmitted with replays. Otherwise replays would desynch. The replay file format has been 100% decoded and such data does not exist. Also, we have reverse engineered about 90% of the Brawl AI system, and there is no learning part of it.

Also, the amount of character specific AI is very small.

  • @ChurroEmiliano Also, seriously? What does MAHVEL have to do with my ego? And do I actually know you? Considering you called me by my first name...

  • @dantarionX ...this video is old as all hell. It's not like I just recently posted it. I was new to the game. Easy as that. It was just an observation. I'd be more pleased if you explained why the CPUs act the way they do, then just falt out say "NO you're wrong, they don't learn", and then calling my stuff BS.

We met at Genesis '09, talked about Brawl+ in hotel room as well as recent discoveries at the time including soundtrack replacement Personality didn't match up to that arrogant comment.

  • @ChurroEmiliano Video is old, but people are still linking to it as "Proof" along with all the other "Brawl CPU Learning" videos. I posted my reasoning already, look at your comments. Now that we are actually editing the AI, these videos are becoming relavent again

  • @dantarionX I don't understand why it's assumed replays have anything to do with this.

The match clearly wasn't a replay, it was recorded live at the time. I made a point to show it wasn't a replay.

    A replay is a replay =/

  • @ChurroEmiliano Your'e misunderstanding. If you saved a replay of this, put it on your SD card, and played it back in another Wii, everything would happen the same. The replay files don't contain inputs for CPU players, the CPU AI code is just executed like normal, with the same random number generator seed.

As a result, everything happens the same. There is no data stored in the replays that has anything to do with learning.

  • @dantarionX Well to be honest, I wouldn't expect the replay to change just because it's played on a different Wii/save data.

From a technical point of view, I want to agree with you, but is it fair to say you would agree that CPUs act the way they do, simply because they were designed to act that way (crouch taunts, multiple tether recoveries in the edge with Samus, Link, and even Sheik and minor chaingrabbing?)

  • i would've f'd him up really bad if i were you.

  • @TheMasterOfSoccer7

I wasn't playing serious, I was trying to bait his actions to exploit in a video.

  • that slide at 4:07 was pretty slick :]

  • hi! im the brawl lv 9, i can do whatever you do, but without human error!

    brawl community:.....................¬_¬

  • Jesus christ, so I guess it is normal to constantly get my ass kicked playing this Super Smash Bros Melee (I'm slow just got a gamecube) I've been playing level 9s and raging alot because they stuff they do is such bullshit. I was really unprepared then.

  • @TheGodTier

It's not normal, you completely missed the experience point of the video.

...and Melee is a whole different thing, the AI was meant to manipulate the way you play the game. The AI's actions as jab jab, jab jab, smash attack. followed by shield punish (if you're ever holding your shield they will go for a grab) No matter how good you play the game (speaking competitively with all advanced techniques) or if you play "traditionally" (items, timer, etc.) the AI will never learn from you

  • @ChurroEmiliano So it's not normal for a beginner to get destroyed? Versing CPUs with reaction times about as fast as I input a button?

  • @ChurroEmiliano For beginners, it is.

  • So nice match :o

  • It's actually quite hilarious on my game. Sometimes after I kill someone in the game I'll teabag instead of taunting (regardless of whether there's anyone under or even nearby me), sometimes completely at random. So now I've noticed that, on a few occasions...the level 9 CPUs now do the same thing. It's awesome! xD

  • One time, on With Anyone, a random Samus used Zero Laser offstage, transformed, and died.

Now, my lvl9 Samus does exactly the same.

  • This CPU is better than like 80% of the brawlers out there :/

  • Wow, you are were toying with that Link so much. Just like what a certain snake playing pro does to me >_>

  • @Doomed100

    I'm glad you noticed :)

  • has anyone tried 3 metaknightsall lvl 9 but no teams?

IT IS THE DEFINITION OF IMPOSSIBLE.

  • @WaffleLord74 Try this instead;

    Temple.

    99 Lives.

    No teams.

Only 1 of the 3 different healing items[either food, Max Tomato or Hearts] set at the lowest setting.

3 lvl 9 CPU's[the ones either hardest or most annoying to you], no using AI manipulation/stupidity for easy KO's.

Survive the entire match without losing a single life, and without staying away from battles.

I coined this match type, it's called "Endurance Melee".[Or Endurance Brawl]

    Haven't done it on Brawl yet. So hard.^^;;

  • U suck

  • @killerj641 no u.

Once again, this was posted in 2008, if you knew anything about the Brawl community back then, you could compare this to videos of DSF's Snake in 08, no difference XDD

  • @killerj641 your mom sucks your dick stupid shit this was done 2 years ago

  • @darkdragoon1000 Woah... Don't need to get mad over that. O_O

  • i trained fox to only use B while standing so now fox cont beat me as a level 9

  • Can you show a video of MetaKnight and his unbeatableness? I bet Mew2King can beat the CPU.

  • You train your cpus well.

  • Meh, what can you expect, the only thing that really bothers me is that the CPU like tags against you even in a free for all

  • @Jaahaah lol after training my cpus they don't only go after me since i trained them in 1vs1 but if i add a character i dont use its like the odd one out

  • I can never pull of a counter, toad, or double team on a CPU. Is that because of cheating AI?

  • @Messuduppotatoasia

Artificial intelligence will always cheat in a fighting game, because they read your button inputs and have 0.01 response time. The only real way to beat them is to abuse the crap out of the system's flaws.

  • 0:17 actually impressed me, ive actually trained my luigi pretty well, he can combo and has kille me before with sidestep>up-b. crazy stuff

  • Over the past 2 years since Brawl came out, my CPU's seem to have gotten HARDER. They do things that I never expected they'd even do- especially the Snake CPU which I don't go up against. They recognized the way I play- even though my play style adapts to circumstances (no real pattern in the way I play).

  • @KomicTurtle agree. My cpus now learned DI. Instead of airdodging in the game, they use down a when in the air! First time i saw that when i was battling squirtle. And the most fucked up thing happened to me.... I vs a lvl 9 yoshi as rob. I pull of a gyro lock. Thats where you have a spinning gyro on floor and you keep doing down a, trapping them for about 40%. After that match, everytime i played a rob, he ALWAYS pulled gyro locks on ME. WTF is that shit?!

  • I never even noticed this until a little while ago when I was fighting a CPU Toon Link. As soon as he killed me, he started teabagging. Of course, since the CPUs can learn, all of my CPU Foxes have become evil.

  • Wow your snake blows. Learn to use your explosives better.

  • @Tugnus

This was posted in 2008. Learn to hate better.

  • That would explain why my ICs always go for the chaingrabs to death now!

  • The first 3 moves made by Link almost confirms it.

My DDD crouches when it kills me.

    My Marth counter-spams.

My Snake knows how to DACUS and uses it constantly.

    And my kirby spams sidestep

  • This is so true! I play as Peach a lot, and peach started to use the glitch-no-lag turnip pull. I used it like 3 times and now CPU Peach uses it at least 10 times a battle (10 stock). It's so weird!

  • my cpu kirby is taunting without having killed me >.>

  • 1:44 he was trying to trick the grenade into exploding

I would point out the rest of the whatthefuckerry but thers too much

  • My CPU do pivot walk so much often...

  • @esmicasadejuegos LOL same here.

  • Fighting yourself much? xD

Seriously, I would kill for a CPU like that Dx I suck with Link though :P

  • lol my link camps and spams projectiles..i wonder y? :D

  • What do you mean with "Experience System"?

  • Wow, the first seconds were beast!^^

  • omg, what a lucker, the com raped u so hard

  • Everytime i kill a Cpu, i would keep Tilting Down on Control stick, Like a dance, Then A Cpu marth killed me and did it a few matches later, Was like WTF?

  • Run, C-Stick Down, Up Z

  • @UnknownOwnz

Note that up z is only for charging you can use c stick up instead.

  • @RayOxide only if you hit them or if they block it

  • but after 2:50 that was a pretty good performance...

  • every time i kill a CPU i do a little dance and then they kill me and do the dance.

  • If you remember Sakurai actually hinted about this system. He said something about the computers being real hard this time. Maybe, even though he documented quite a lot about the game, he wanted it to still have a touch o mystery.

  • 0:17 ahahahahahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • I was Wario, the nine was R.O.B. and we were playing on Green Greens. I bit him to the starblocks and then bit him again. The next attack from R.O.B. was to try and throw me to the starblocks (and a couple of attacks after that).

  • How do you glide that far while doing Snake's Up A?

  • called a dash attack cancel (dac) look it up

  • It's a Snake-specific technique called Snake dashing. I don't know how to perform it as I'm a melee player but you might find your answer on smashboards(dot)com or other smash forums.

  • i realize the date, but 2:28 lol why did it take so long to get a ko on link? nice match btw

  • i realize the date, but 2:28 lol why did it take you so long to get a kill on link?

  • That bot was BOOTYRAPE! AKA Fucking awesome.

  • If you do the event with the LandMaster Spam the CPUs will start teabagging the floor if you don't use your FS.

  • Wow, that's really strange and really impressive. For some reason I've always had huge issues playing against a CPU Link (even though he's really low tiered). Even in Melee. It made me cringe how awesome that Link was. But it's really impressive that they've managed to program the CPU to remember your habits. I want to test this and see if King Dedede uses his crouch as a taunt now, as I do xD

Awesome match though man. A good laugh and a fun one to watch.

  • It's also helped by the fact that lvl 9 CPUs read your button commands.

  • Why is it that everyone else's cpus are pure genious in every game that has them but in the games I play they're freaking retarded? I main marth and the AI for it is still stupid as heck. And that glitch from one of the events from melee (giant yoshi) won't happen for me. Why does cool stuff happen for everyone else and not for me?

  • Because people don't record Yoshi that doesn't fail...

  • doing it in training mode speeds up the process

  • some things may look random, but they actually take a lot of skill, practice and repetition. Like how some people can beat event 51 in 30 seconds

  • wtf ai learining from humans and using it against them??!? i know i seen this somewhere and it did not end well...

  • 0:17-0:18 made me lol, 3 perfect shields in a row. GG fuxing pro man

  • @oompaloompaluv Shit, and I don't even use the damn shield

  • The CPU was beast in the beginning. I noticed that as well, i'm practicing against a CPU then all of a sudden it's raping me. Mostly due to perfect shield stuff though

  • SUCCES!!!

  • lulz. 1:36 Brilliantly maneuvered kill.

    I

  • Yeah, the cpu 9 link fights practically identically to my link, but he's not as good and he doesn't know some advanced techniques like bomb catching aerials. When I set his costume to dark link and play on final destination it looks fuly epic. Anybody who plays link should try it.

  • Lol...this video is great. I've played brawl so much now that when I play computers the match seems very unfair at times because they perfect block like half of my attacks x_x

I was getting paranoid when the computer started to copy my metagame with Ike as well. An example: Ike's down throw into an aether

  • 2:48 Epic fail !

  • The link DIed out of your Nair :o

  • Its funny its like they try 2 talk 2 U at times by going up+down like in online matches with campers

  • I'm not sure if I believe that they learn from people, but that cpu actually looks good. O_o

  • One time I was playing a lv9 cpu Luigi. It did a Jab canceled up b on me and then started to crouch repeatedly to taunt me. I do the up-b often, and my friend does the crouching taunt. So I found it funny and weird. Also this one time a Falco lazer locked me then continues with about 4 more lazers. I couldn't help but lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Same here. For me, Lucario likes using over-B, neutral-B, fsmash, and fair/bair, and will often try for down-B and grabs. And he always starts the match by immediately charging an Aura Sphere, just like me... wow, this is kinda creepy, they're learning a lot from the player...

And because I do ducking taunts with several characters, a lot of them seem to have picked it up.

  • I lol'd at 0:16, perfect sheild on every hit.

  • lol me and my freinds were doing only caption falcon rounds using onlkly captain punch and now my captain falcon spans falcon punch

  • you should watch my other video.

    Falcon Punch Much?

  • hack

  • ROFL

  • Your metagame? That seems like standard Link stuff to me. If anything CPU Links like to do the spin attack more. That you constantly got sucked into the Gale is more like coincidence.

I think Peach is standard Float Canceling Deluxe in everybody's version.

I do think that my Link jab canceled me once though.

  • Well to me it looked like he tried to set the same thing up(By this I mean the boomerang+bomb+spin attack combo.) again later in the match.

    For example 3:59.

  • Yeah , its right if you look at it you can see him repeating the 3 perfect shiels before doing it, exacly like he did at the begining.

  • unlike in melee, no matter what stage you are in, if you train a level 9 enough, the fight between that character and you will show you your cpu match

  • I had something like that..

I mained Link and I often played against a Lv 9 Link.. in the beginning of my brawl career he was so bad.. but in the end of my career he was a very good enemy and made me angry somtimes :D

I also thought thats because I also often play with Link Óò

  • lmao the same happend to me i main g&w and i do alot of bair on the cpu now everytime i fight a cpu they come at me with bair the whole time (and for sum reason everytime they use judgement its a 9) o_0

  • Sale for me, I used to main Wolf. He's more like a level 12 CPU now. Also CPUs are copying what I do after I KO someone (repeatedly crouching).

  • Oops, *same -_-;

  • I've noticed this too. I play Dedede a lot and now he keeps using a TON of bair and all of his grabs are dthrows. I Keep hoping he'll chaingrab me (weird) but he never does. Is that possible?

  • You see! I knew I wasn't going crazy!

  • I've had the same experience. I play Kirby, and I could 3-stock/gimp any level 9 CPU within a minute at the most. Then, they got really annoying and "psychic" (or whatever you want to call it). No matter what move I did, they would know exactly how to counter EVERY time. It got to the point that I hate to play CPUs and I try not to.

  • hmm i saw an early post in the thread where you mentioned that the AI uses save data, are you referring to the name records IE(having a specific name assigned to a character) or to the actual Wii's memory? I trained my AI with Fox (My main), Ganonndorf, Wolf, Sonic, and Marth. Fox became a nightmare. It even learned how to edgecamp using the BD shine, but i was NOT using a nametag. For some reason going into the Masterpeices section seems to delete EVERYTHING the AI has learned.

  • HOLY FUCK. O_O

  • ...I had no idea! Sakurai deserves EVEN MORE credit now!

  • I followed the link in the description, and the way the article described Peach's attack pattern was not at all different from how she acts when I fight her.

Excessive floating, N-air spam, floating in place. I've seen it a lot when I fight against her, but I never play as her.

  • It does not have to be you, it can be someone else that played as her. If you haven't played against any peach (which by now should be impossible, with the game already out for more than a year) then the CPU is trying to come up with a way to beat you (if it constantly falls for the same stuff). I'm be testing this soon, with a fresh new save data.

  • But, comming up with ways to beat me, that sounds just about right, cause she is defifitely the most annoying character to play against. lol

  • Colonel, it's me. I'm fighting myself! D:

  • @MisterFiasco *punch other Snake* Ow! How the hell did that hurt me?!

  • holly shit epic boomorand and aaa perfect shield wtf

  • Every time I KOed the comp, I taunt. Now when the comp gets a KO, it taunts!!! The comp coppyed me over time, now they do it alot.

  • They do that even if you DONT use that character/ know how to taunt lol.

  • Whenever i face off against Sonic(he is my main)

he uses nearly EVERY tactic i use, i guess the records also count AT's and tactics, and the way you play, and what you do, they have come to REPLACE US! And sometimes it seems like CPU chooses whether or not it gets hit, like one time i was playing i threw a Smart Bomb at a CPU

it some how dodges it and stands IN THE MIDDLE

OF THE EXPLOSION and it did not flinch or receive

damage, Brawls CPU's copy the player so much

its not funny but its awesome.

  • I mean, it makes a little sense. Whats the fun of fighting CPUs who Always use the SAME strategies. As long as the CPUs don't read your buttons when u attack, i'm fine with a challenge of fighting a copy of my fighting style. (Mains: Lucario, Pit, Link)

  • CPU sometimes DOES know what button

your going to press, how do you think they

dodge? the second you press the button

CPU reads your animation and then acts

based on what it wants to do. CPU is pretty good in this game, i actually LOST

against a level 9 CPU sonic(he copied me

alot) while i was Mario(not my best).

    lul

  • same her, I lost to a lvl 9 falco(which is my main) and the CPU used shdl, laserlock and a little bit of chaingrab O.O

    so i kinda lost...

    i suck at brawl¬¬

  • Does your Snake CPU do the D-Throw scheme?

  • It has not.

But I have noticed that he hesitates on what he should do after I either roll back, forward, attack in place, or just stand up.

  • Comment removed

  • that's strange cuz that's exactly what happened to MY cpu Snake.

Also, I use the same grenade drop as you! (Roll instead of just shield)

  • wow u are goo i thought u were link at first. btw how do you travel heaps fats while using up smash?

  • Comment removed

  • the first combo link does is fucking awesome

  • lol if he uses ur metagame.. u dont use Zair?

  • Like I explained in the video description, he can't perform advanced techniques. He doesn't know HOW exactly using zair can help because it's a specific button input sequence. That also explains why it doesn't perform DAC or inverted arrows. It's a little too much for them =)

  • wtf zair!!! what lang to they teach you in school

  • dude if you do not what Zair then u must be stupid as hell so shutup cuz you dont know how to play brawl dumbass. so go google it,

  • I do not understand the point you were trying to make with this video but it was still entertaining.

  • Any guesses on why you found it entertaining?

updated video description, should explain why =)

  • That does clarify it a lot, actually. Interesting @_@ Thanks.

  • Mk is not unbeatable, not even close, i just bought this game 5 days ago and can handle him easy at level 9. Mario and olimar are the most annoying ones, as they just shield grab you all the time..

  • LMAO, 5 days ago.

...technically, that doesn't mean you know don't know how to play the game.

Are you active in the smash community?

Do you go to tournaments (offline)?

anyways, I was being sarcastic about MK being unbeatable, and I guess I should edit the video description =)

  • What does me haning around on a forum having anything to do with me being good at the game? And no i don't go to tournaments, moslty becuse there are no tournaments here in sweden and i ain't gonna pay a trip to the states or germany just to play brawl. But anyway i played a lot of melee so calling me new to brawl even after the first day might not be correct

  • I don't recall ever talking about forums.

by "smash community" I mean your local offline area.

    can't find players?

All is Brawl is a great site, check it out.

sorry if I came out as an "enemy" to you to get that sort of reply, also, about knowing how to play, I did correct myself in the same post by saying that technically you don't have to own the game to be good or know how to play.

  • The ai from CPU grows as human players use them. Sounds like a pokemon? Well belive it.

  • Ok, this totally proves what I think about how cpu's can learn techniques from you playing people online >_>

  • have you ever noticed that whenever someone posts a match video they always win unless they post ternament matches or the video is about them losing

  • Are you talking about this match?

    lol

I didn't play the CPU until I had what I wanted. I played horribly here, and I could have played much better. Plain and simple, I wanted to see how much Link had improved. Played him once, and posted the match on youtube. If you pay close attention to his every move, it's insane how well he can develop such a great playstyle that could make other players jealous including myself. I wish I could perfect shield to grab as much as they do :/

  • lmao

have you ever noticed that whenever a video is posted someone wins and someone loses

xDDDDDD what are you SAYING skawt

  • yes but let's say they win they put it up on there channel if they lose they don't most vids the video maker put's up are of them wining not nesisaraly churro

  • They're learning...creepy.

  • i DID feel that the cpus were getting so much better than b4. i soon had trouble beating them whereas a few days ago, i was pwning them really hard. soon some cpus were copying the jumping forward and bairing to start a combo for pikachu

  • Did you see the frickin performance that Link made during the few thirty seconds of the match? Fuck! Boomerang to bomb to up-B then fair and perfect shielded snake jab combo?!?!?!? Lvl 9 CPUs are just crazy sometimes tho at most times they're just retarded. If only there was a level 10 CPU that is more skilled than any human could ever be and without decaying in skill or perfect shielding every time they KO someone
