This version is so sad to watch. You can normally see how happy Shannon is while performing but he was just devastated by the death of Kurt. Rest in Peace Kurt and Shannon.
@Jertahoe Although Shannon was addicted to Heroin at one point, it was cocaine that took him. But nevertheless, like you said, he did have a great voice. Love Blind Melon.
@Amoostoons your user name is confusing. Jesus is a faggot and god is a bearded man that lives in the sky. The earth was not created in 7 days. We have dinosaurs to prove this. Christianity has influenced its followers to murder millions. May i never burn for eternity in a place that doesnt exist. Yours truly, Theclockmace

The balck KEys are SICK and so is Blind Melon... You do realize that TONE is the holy grail to most guitar players right??? I'm not knocking BM, hell I GREW UP in the 90's... Blind Melon's music was raw, natural and real. It does not get any better than that! Shannon Hoon was by far one of the best frontmen I've ever seen. He was real to the music himself and the fans. A rarity in itself! I totally adore Shannon Hoon for his beauty of life and music inside and out. Blind Melon is a great inspiration to me. It took all members in Blind Melon to be as one. Sleep Peacefully Beautiful angel Shannon. I will C U N Heaven..............Peace and God Bless to all
ok funny ..but not really. Shannon is certainly there :( Sadly enough he ended his life with an overdose.. sin leads to death/hell. Shannon was plagued with the same "disease" that plagues humanity - sin, manifested in selfish acts. The one and only cure is Christ :) It is a shame that someone who had such beautiful talent could end there lives that way but that is the steep price of sin :( u need not suffer a similar fate. open up the door to Jesus today .. and live :)
@Amoostoons Let me bluntly correct YOU. YOU have NO RIGHT to judge anyones life. Only God has that right. Once again WHO pointed you as GOD to JUDGE?? You need to pray and ask the good Lord to forgive you for passing judgement. Those living in glass houses should not throw stones! You committ SINS daily, as we all do, but for you to come here and try to play God. How dare you, you self righteous piece of shit! I am a child of God's!
@Amoostoons .My favorite part of reading this persons quote is the part were you fail as a bible pusher to mention that "God loves the sinner not the sin". wow..this was 17 years ago already? I remember watching this live....the question mark was so ironic looking back....my girlfriend committed suicide this past xmas....i feel like i have that question mark on my head sometimes...why do people with such talent do that...?
He was doing this as a tribute to Kurt, Little did we all know that we would be doing the same for shannon hoon the next year. How sad. R.I.P to both of them.
April 8, 1994...the day the news broke that Kurt Cobain had been found dead in his Seattle home. For me at least the day is cursed. Blew out my shoulder (ending my promising baseball career) on 4/8/92, heard about the death of my favorite musician on 4/8/94, and had my fiancee break up with me on 4/8/98. Eight's been my unlucky number ever since (because so much else has gone wrong on the eighth of a month over the years...or in August).
The message expressed in this song describes the darkness of the pains of depression, I myself am a survivour and my 28 year old son is also struggling with the difficulties of depression. Music is quite important to him and he listens to alot of songs that describe the way he feels,I truly need to have him listen to the lyrics . for me anyway it expresses the way I feel as well as the hopes that I have of escaping the black moments in my life as well as others lives,I LOVE YOU SON...........:)
I feel like every time I listen to this song, it's different. Part of it is because Shannon was amazing at improvization in music, but the other reason is because every time I listen, I hear different messages, new meanings in the words. What art, truly inspiring.

man....i was 16 in 94 and man how lucky we were to have the music we had....and what a group of front men....from shannon to kurt to layne to chris, maynard eddie v, bradley n, perry f,trent r,andrew wood, anthony kedis........
this music shaped my personality......lollapalooza 1992 93 vancouver B.C Canada............... EPIC
@bears8899 goes on and on .. les claypool, marilyn manson, scott weiland, and how about the ladies ... tori, fiona, poe, alanis, cranberries, crazy courtney love. i only wish that i was 16 in 94. i was 10 but i like knowing that i was there. peace and grunge
@killmekilmehateme666 damn billy corgan, gavin ros, the silverchair boys. old green day. not sure why we're doing mostly lead singers but im havin a good time(:
@killmekilmehateme666 that cause the labels bleed these guys dry to make the coin, sad fuckers they are, the labels, double edge sword of manipulated fame.
@bears8899 Totaly... I was a little older, AND I was fortunate enough to see Blind melon, Neil Young and Peral Jam here in Portland before Shanon Hoon died... What an amazing show. I didn't know it at the time, but my fiance was there too. Never since the birth of the blies and the late 60's early 70's was there SO MUCH amazing music being made. I am SO proud and lucky to have grown up in the Grundge era and in the NW no less. Flannel shirts and Long-johns over shorts RULED!!!!!
@4rescue i cant say that music sucks now.......BUT what i will say is.....nothing has come close for me to this time.....when we would go to a beach we called triangle with about 30 friends have a fire drink beer and crank tunes like this!!! no fights no bullshit just good music good beer good friends and a hugh fire and just day dreaming and singing!!!!!
@bears8899 Oh don't get me wrong, there are CERTAINLY a few amazing bands. For instance, the Black Keys might just be one of my favorite ALL TIME bands and they're really a band of the last ten years. I hear ya about everything else though, when I look back at growing up in the 90's, I can certainly say it was a GREAT time. No cell-phone cameras to worry about, not twitter, just, as you say, friends, beers and GRET music. I feel ya. Cheers
Respond to this video... name one song from the keys that comes close to this. Today 's got nothing, with exception of Black Crowes. I just saw Blind Melon last week in NY

I think most of rockers since the 60's used heroin not to forget the pain. Just experimenting with weed, pills, acid and then curiosity takes you to heroin. Cobain, Staley, Shoon and many many others died from heroin. But many escaped from smack: Kiedis, Tyler, Richards, McKagan and etc. Just people don't try that shit. It's glorious for a few months and then only hell.
@srekazinskas yeah a 12 hour coke binge is not very good for ya, it sucks that it happend though and yeah I know what ya mean he did everything, really.
@endocry whats your problem asshole, i was born in 93 and your hating because i like this music and im saying goodbye to a great artist but anything to get attention right? huhu fuck off faggot
@scroggdogg28 i hate these agist motherfuckers who feel like they are bigger fans because they are older. i bet that ashole listened to the who and zeppelin!
i bet shannon sang this one like no other that night, herion stoled their souls and I keep asking why, what did they find there that they didn't find when the world was listening to their music, when the world watched in awe at what these guys delivered, I would think that alone would be a high enough, but as I have never walked in their shoes, what the fuck do we know as to why, we miss there music and more that that, their soul they shared, we are lucky they decided to share their talent
@JLDB1987 hey mate before you going say such a bold statement about Kurt Cobain , just because you heard "suicide" on the six o'clock (mainstream) news does not, I repeat, does not make it true ! or it even happened
and as far as the question mark ... .. . and why he put it there, represents far more than, ... lets say for argument sake, say "why"
@spellgrounds I was a big fan, saw the performance as it happened and remember reading a quote from Shannon the next day about what it meant. He, like all of us, wondered how he could do it, with all that he had in his life- a baby girl, especially. No conspiracies; another junkie whose depression eventually overtook him. Nothing special or unusual, except for his fame.
Blind Melon (Shannon Huoon) and other songwriters in the 90s put their soul into the mucis. Each word meant something. "I know we can't all stay here forever so that's why I am gonna write my words on the face of today" Now that's powerfull. Not talking anout hos, money, kissing girls and so on. Just syain....
@emilysedlock agreed, they replaced the souless pop music at the time and this is what everyone was looking for without knowing they needed it. When all this music came out it made the previous pop chart shit look exactly like it was, packaged radio shit. These bands introduced what music was all about and they blew away everything that on the charts, and the well package shit music was exposed as the well package shit music it was. These guys changed the course of music then and raised the bar.
Its not about the heroin use, they used it because they couldn't fit in our world...because they were deep and orignal people.....heroin was there escape.....You can inject all the heroin into all the new artists and not 2 good words are going to come out of their mouths.........@SOLOSE666SOLOSE they were not trying to be cool.....i have been through that experience and your emotional troubles drive you to drug use only kids now days use it to look cool.
gee, aren't we here to just enjoy the song :) Set aside differences and turn it up and enjoy. Forget about all these formalities, just enjoy the show, great stuff here.
im so glad i lived my prime years im the 90's and can always say i know what good music really is.i still live in the 90's music wise.the 16 people that dislikes this song must be backstreet boys fans.music with great lyrics is real music.kids these days wear there pants down the bottom of there ass and have to hold them up with one hand and call themselves cool.you know kids that style started in prison.thats how the other inmates knew you were willing to get fucked in the ass.so pull them up!!
amen to imortality1995, I believe you are probably like 5 years older than me. This music is the shit and somewhere around 1997-98 new rock started to suck again. almost all the music i like is older than me and seldomly i am impressed by new rock. heroin is a terrible thing. jam bands is whats up. moe.
"in my opinoin" only needs to proceed ANYones statements concerning bands after 1997.....ok now go listen to what they telll u to...death cab......lol
obviously u do, dont be mad cuz u cant think of one non watered down, original band that has came out the last 15 years...And how boring America and kids like you r now a days,.i try i relive the early to mid 90's as much as possible.......now dont u have a kings of leon show to attend or something.........
@imortality1995 Hey man I'm a huge blind melon fan. I just don't think that you can put off all music that has been made since the death of Shannon. I mean there was shitty music back then too. There are great bands these days you just have to find them. A mainstream talent like Blind Melon doesn't exist. You guys can keep arguing but the fact is your arguing is drowning out the music.
@Royals89 ....um isnt that what is great about youtube...that u can argue your opinoin?.......also yes i agree Blind Melon is great but I can name u about 30 better bands from that era(89-96) that n my opinoin is better. So that right there is saying something aboout that era......if Blind melon came out in 2006, they would be hands down the best band around...i mean give me a break can u think of one band that has a voice like Shannon Hoon that has came out the last 15 years?
@Royals89 ...also unlike a couple people in here that cant back up their point... i will name u 30 better bands(in my opinoin) that came out during blind melon or before........that was the difference, we brought the good radio free( or yes "underground music") to the mainstream for a minute...and for a few years there in the early to mid 90's...we the listeners controlled what was being played on the airwaves,,then it started to die around mid to late 1997..................."not 4 u"/Pearl Jam
@imortality1995 i normally don't take youtube personally, but being labeled as a death cab or kings of leons fan just doesnt sit well with me. You wanted me to back up my statement? The Disco Biscuits, Lotus, Sound tribe sector nine, mumford and sons, the XX, too many DJs to name that are making incredible music that they never even thought of in 1996, Umphreys Mcgee, EOTO, John Mayer (not quite my taste, but the guy is unbelievably talented)..there are plenty more too.
This song is about illumanti. Shannon knew, the question mark, Kurt Cobain had died few days before. If you really look at all of In utereo, that album is a big FU to the illumanti.

@xfpsify heroin seems to kill everything that was fucking great, not just the 90s, it just seems every great musician died in the 90s... leaving pretty much everything in complete bull shit
@WeDieYoung1083 what you are writing on here is the exact opposite of what i think Shannon is trying to say. prejudice is just ignorance, but if we'd realize that we're really not that different, it wouldn't be an issue. I'm not religious, but for anyone who is, they believe that God created Man in His image. Would that not make God all of the horrible things you call other people? Think about what you say before you post it on the Internet. That shit is there forever. Peace out, y'all.

I feel ya. Cheers

@4rescue the black keys are all tone and production but nothing compared to this bands, c'mon can't you tell the difference

Respond to this video... name one song from the keys that comes close to this. Today 's got nothing, with exception of Black Crowes. I just saw Blind Melon last week in NY

@bears8899 sure you can, bands today cannot play their instruments at the same level, including the keys which play baby riffs without any balls

It's glorious for a few months and then only hell.

i bet shannon sang this one like no other that night, herion stoled their souls and I keep asking why, what did they find there that they didn't find when the world was listening to their music, when the world watched in awe at what these guys delivered, I would think that alone would be a high enough, but as I have never walked in their shoes, what the fuck do we know as to why, we miss there music and more that that, their soul they shared, we are lucky they decided to share their talent

This is the day Kurt Cobain killed himself- that's why he has the question mark.
JLDB1987 11 months ago
@JLDB1987 hey mate before you going say such a bold statement about Kurt Cobain , just because you heard "suicide" on the six o'clock (mainstream) news does not, I repeat, does not make it true ! or it even happened
and as far as the question mark ... .. . and why he put it there, represents far more than, ... lets say for argument sake, say "why"
spellgrounds 11 months ago
@spellgrounds I was a big fan, saw the performance as it happened and remember reading a quote from Shannon the next day about what it meant. He, like all of us, wondered how he could do it, with all that he had in his life- a baby girl, especially. No conspiracies; another junkie whose depression eventually overtook him. Nothing special or unusual, except for his fame.
JLDB1987 11 months ago
Blind Melon (Shannon Huoon) and other songwriters in the 90s put their soul into the mucis. Each word meant something. "I know we can't all stay here forever so that's why I am gonna write my words on the face of today" Now that's powerfull. Not talking anout hos, money, kissing girls and so on. Just syain....
emilysedlock 1 year ago 2
@emilysedlock agreed, they replaced the souless pop music at the time and this is what everyone was looking for without knowing they needed it. When all this music came out it made the previous pop chart shit look exactly like it was, packaged radio shit. These bands introduced what music was all about and they blew away everything that on the charts, and the well package shit music was exposed as the well package shit music it was. These guys changed the course of music then and raised the bar.

Its not about the heroin use, they used it because they couldn't fit in our world...because they were deep and orignal people.....heroin was there escape.....You can inject all the heroin into all the new artists and not 2 good words are going to come out of their mouths.........@SOLOSE666SOLOSE they were not trying to be cool.....i have been through that experience and your emotional troubles drive you to drug use only kids now days use it to look cool.

obviously u do, dont be mad cuz u cant think of one non watered down, original band that has came out the last 15 years...And how boring America and kids like you r now a days,.i try i relive the early to mid 90's as much as possible.......now dont u have a kings of leon show to attend or something.........
imortality1995 1 year ago
@imortality1995 Hey man I'm a huge blind melon fan. I just don't think that you can put off all music that has been made since the death of Shannon. I mean there was shitty music back then too. There are great bands these days you just have to find them. A mainstream talent like Blind Melon doesn't exist. You guys can keep arguing but the fact is your arguing is drowning out the music.
Royals89 1 year ago
@Royals89 ....um isnt that what is great about youtube...that u can argue your opinoin?.......also yes i agree Blind Melon is great but I can name u about 30 better bands from that era(89-96) that n my opinoin is better. So that right there is saying something aboout that era......if Blind melon came out in 2006, they would be hands down the best band around...i mean give me a break can u think of one band that has a voice like Shannon Hoon that has came out the last 15 years?
imortality1995 1 year ago
@Royals89 ...also unlike a couple people in here that cant back up their point... i will name u 30 better bands(in my opinoin) that came out during blind melon or before........that was the difference, we brought the good radio free( or yes "underground music") to the mainstream for a minute...and for a few years there in the early to mid 90's...we the listeners controlled what was being played on the airwaves,,then it started to die around mid to late 1997..................."not 4 u"/Pearl Jam
imortality1995 1 year ago
@imortality1995 i normally don't take youtube personally, but being labeled as a death cab or kings of leons fan just doesnt sit well with me. You wanted me to back up my statement? The Disco Biscuits, Lotus, Sound tribe sector nine, mumford and sons, the XX, too many DJs to name that are making incredible music that they never even thought of in 1996, Umphreys Mcgee, EOTO, John Mayer (not quite my taste, but the guy is unbelievably talented)..there are plenty more too.
