so many people want to hear it as tears, i can understand why, especially as the reference to the rain follows. this is an intentional poetic technique! you don't always have to say it straight. i'm quite familiar with my tea going cold, like when i try to take care of myself but my mind is just wandering, forgetful and lost. it's a perfect song to remember in those times, i cry just to think of that.

Tears do go cold! Obviously you've never cried hard enough to have a face full of tears but you are too broken to wipe them away and a few minutes later you feel how cold they can become.

But people interpret songs however they want. The words ARE "my tea's gone cold" but in the song it songs like she says "tears" and to someone, "tears" may have made more sense to them depending on what they've been through. Leave britzikow alone.
