  • Bellydancers whirling over the face of Christ...I can only imagine the outrage if they were dancing on an image of the Prophet...

  • @Paulynyc LOL These are not bellydancers, haha. These are Mevlana derwishes.

  • Why is Jesus there; aint it a muslim country? lol

  • ohhhhh myyyyy gosshhhh! Please please try and find a way to get rid of this comment LordMuggins. I am soo embaressed for you its untrue. i think you should take JUST five minutes out of your daily timetable to just read a tad about Turkey perhaps on wikipedia- they make it nice and simple for you. lol. If you cant be bothered here are a few points for your leisure..

  • Turkey is a faily new country formed in 1923..the land is known as Anatolia or Asia Minor which of course is the setting of the 7 churches of Asia featured in the Bible. Turkey was perhaps the first country to have a church and the first country to have the worlds largest church (hagia sophia)..

  • Turkey (Asia Minor) and Istanbul (Constantinople) was the second most important Christian city after Rome during the Byzantine Empire. Mary (mother of Jesus) died in Asia Minor and disciples John, Paul and others operated in Asia Minor. Even Santa Clause was born in Turkey...!

  • I could go on but if youre concerned why youre Jesus is there go and read the New Testament, there is more Asia Minor (Turkey) there than there is the USA..that might be a shock to you. Turkey has seen many civilisations pass through it. Islam took over Christianity there in 12th century (circa)but Turkey was very much a Christian state.

  • you show shocking ignorance that i hope doesnt reflect mainstream Irish viewpoint. I thought you people were supposed to be quite religiously educated as well. Jesus was born in Palestine- that is a Muslim country! Christianity comes from the Middle East which is now a 90% Muslim region. I would appreciate if you got an encylopedia out some time. Peace!

  • Nah. Its a securlar country

  • LOL hahah its a "secular country". It also happens to have a 99.8% Muslim population. Israel is a Jewish country yet calls itself "secular". whats your point silly man?

  • Try to curb your rampant self-righteousness for a moment. It's secular for the simple reason that muslim law doesn't dictate in Turkey. Additionally, there is freedom OF religion. So while a large percentage of the population may be technically muslim, we both know that only a fraction of those are practising muslims.

  • jesus is our propht too.. and anatolia(turkey ) is a place where christians became stronger and a lots.. here about a thousands churhces.. here some people are christians for 1800 years... 100 years ago %50 of population was christian but most of them moved to USA and europe for nice life ..

  • no they never moved to USA, they were either systematically slaughtered or moved to Greec in the poppulation exchange

  • @balabansertac 12 yıllık doçentim tarih anabilim dalında osmanlı, tanzimat, kuruluş yıllarında tezlerim var ben senin kadar kuru sıkı atanı görmedim :)

  • no the country is not muslim, just more than half the populatian is, and jesus isnt christian he is muslim and his name is Isa

  • no christ the pantocrator is from haghia sophia church, when present day turkey used to be asia minor, Greek! (byziantium- constantinople)

  • excellent
