  • I Love Texas. I Love Arizona and I love Wyoming. The only States that give a FUCK about themselves and who they are. The only three States where I have never heard a disparaging word.

  • Holy SH--! AT 4:25

  • I would definitely give the naked-drunk-chick a thumbs-up however, considering the year, this girl could very well be my mom. The music is still fresh though.

  • A fabulous 1974 version by GPN LGB as they "deliver" GPN's signature song "London Homesick Blues." A TEXAS SIZE THANKS to Geeky333 for a crystal clear sound quality on this clip.

  • They NEED to bring this song back to the show. The show isn't the same w/out it!

  • Is this the picnic where Robert Earl Keen met Willie Nelson after his car burnt to the ground?

  • awesome....thx

  • thanks for putting your videos back up, we really enjoy em!

  • Be sure to watch to the very end...or skip ahead to 4:26 if you're in a hurry....

  • God I love this shit! If this dosen't bring back the good ole days nothing does!!!

  • The Lost Gonzos....one of my fav bands!

  • Gary P. Nunn does have a label. Not a giant label, but I've got two of his albums. Does anyone else have "Armadillo Crossing" or "What I like about Texas"?

  • This is music the way it should be done: without any label attached. Gary Nunn, JJW and the Lost Gonzo Band, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Leon Russell, Willie, Waylon. 30-35 years later the music still sound fine.

  • Man this brings me back to some great times. This is one of my favorite songs of all time!Thank you so much for posting this.

  • This was held at Texas World Speedway outside of College Station, TX. Took place over 3 days around the July 4th holiday. 2 buddies and I went to freshman orientation at A&M and then stayed over and went to this event. Camped out for three nights and snuck back into the dorm to shower a couple of times. Crazy time. Ungodly hot. More drugs around than a pharmacy. They've got a poster from this picnic hanging in the Chicken Oil Co. in Bryan that lists all of the performers.

  • I love that these videos are up...Tomas Ramirez (sax player in the Lost Gonzo Band) is my father and I just love going back in time to see and hear him play these songs.

    Thanks for putting them up!

  • I've been a fan of JJW going back to the very early 70's. I always thought that Tomas Ramirez added a great element with his sax playing. I alway wondered what happened to him.

  • he's alive well and recording in atlanta. check out his myspace space for more info

  • I got to know your dad back in those days. The company I was with did some location recording of JJWalker and Thomas and the rest of the Gonzos played with him. Spent a little time taking some of his money playing cards and getting to know a bit about him. Good man. Straight shooter. Funny how the circle turns.

  • Indeed! I love that there are these video out there...I watched them with Dad the other night and he had running commentary the whole time!

  • where did you get it on dvd?

  • Great clip! Thanks for posting. Does anybody know if the early picnics are going to come out on DVD? The film quality seems pretty good. Was this held at Texas A&M? It's funny to think those young chicks are now early 50s age grandmothers. If the grandkids only knew!

  • I love this song.

  • Thanks Rick! Are you a Texan? I am, and have heard this a million times but it is still cute!

  • I remember the Armadillo World Headquarters.

  • Austin City Limits lost it's edge with me when they started playing less country music, and more stuff that I had never heard of. I can remember when I was around 5 years old, waiting to hear the end theme on the show. I sure do miss it on TV.

  • right on..I'm an Ohio boy, but thanks to Austin City Limits, I learned what good music was, even in the Buckeye state lol

I do admit I did like some of the more less known stuff they play- but they have sortta lost the country side of things..

  • @Belle0010 I do so agree. I really don't watch ACL anymore for that very reason.

  • @Belle0010 ACL still has some good music, but it's just not the same without hearind GPN singing this song at the end of the show.

  • my dad used sing this to me when i was little i love it!

  • Its one of the songs I'm playin if I get hit in Iraq at my deadman's party! Jerry jef sang it great and I love it whoever sings it!

  • It's a shame they don't play this at the end of Austin City Limits anymore. Thanks for posting!!!

  • i agree, i feel like austin is becoming too corporate. you cant change austin city limits!!!! :(

  • I want to go home with the armadillos country music from Amarillo to Abilene The frendliest people and the prettiest women you've ever seen.

  • Love this song!

  • Man I wish I had been alive back then...

  • Austin Texas was a great place to grow up in the mid to late seventies. The music scene was soo cool. I suppose we all carry that time and place in our hearts. "So I wanna go home with the armadillo,...."

  • couldn't have said it better.

  • Buddy, thanks for that great post. Love the visual treat towards the end.

  • Now THAT brings back some great memories. Couldn't make that picnic, but I went to Willie's 1st annual picnic. Thanks for posting. Oh, btw, Bryan has no "t" at the end of it. :-)

    Cheers,
