Jeremy has the traction control off that is why it is all over the place. You must know what you are doing when driving this vehicle, the early 90's ZR-1 motor was deveolped by Lotus and Mercury Marine and had a power train where you could turn a key to control the power of the overhead vavles. Also this Corvette was not able to be serviced by Chevrolet. I have a friend that owns one and it is scary powerful.

The vette is faster than the r8 because of one reason, it has vastly more power. The r8 is a million times more sofisticated but it dosent help when it only as a fraction of the billion corvette horses
@TheEryk03 the body is made from aluminum and Carbon fiber. The chassis is made from aluminum and magnesium. The engine block and parts are all cast from aluminum. It doesn't claim to be a luxury sports car, it claims to be a Supercar, which it is.
zr1 is faster any day of the week, but honestly why pay 100k for a corvette when it doesnt look any different than its half priced base model that thousands of people own. Its not special. The R8 is like holy shit look at that because it's alot more rare.

@z06k Actually what plastic does not as good as carbon fiber but it helps dissipate power from a crash. It is also cheaper to replace than CF. The other thing that really does a lot for being good at handling accidents its its frame and crumble points. Not so much the plastic or lack of CF. Am just saying.

@TheEryk03 the body is made from aluminum and Carbon fiber. The chassis is made from aluminum and magnesium. The engine block and parts are all cast from aluminum. It doesn't claim to be a luxury sports car, it claims to be a Supercar, which it is.

zr1 is faster any day of the week, but honestly why pay 100k for a corvette when it doesnt look any different than its half priced base model that thousands of people own. Its not special. The R8 is like holy shit look at that because it's alot more rare.

@MegaGunRush And ZR1 is lighter & faster because of the plastic which means that it would not protect a fucking piece of your body if you crash it probably quicker than the full driving aids boring 4wd R8 v10. That's why i would take the full aluminium + carbon safer R8 anyday! The nurburgring times are made to make people dream they have no sense in real car use, real life i mean. Plus we surely don't have enough money to buy one of both so stop debating about dreams and get a life

@z06k Actually what plastic does not as good as carbon fiber but it helps dissipate power from a crash. It is also cheaper to replace than CF. The other thing that really does a lot for being good at handling accidents its its frame and crumble points. Not so much the plastic or lack of CF. Am just saying.

@TheRebuttle People also don't realize that carbon fiber also 'plastic' in the same sense as the fiberglass and sheet molded compound found on the coupe, convertible, and Grand Sport. Both are bonded in an plastic epoxy resin martix, so they're actually both 'plastic'.

@TheRebuttle Comparing the handling here doesn't have sense, it's like trying to spit on the moon. A 4wd doesn't have the same handling than a rwd. And this is just what you see in the video when clarkson tries to stick with the R8. Then, if you have money to have a R8, you have money to replace the CF. Just sayin....

I'm American but seriously, who would buy a $100K+ car that's made of plastic? Yeah it looks awesome and it's amazingly fast but at the end of the day you drive a plastic car. I don't care if it's faster than R8 around the Nurburgring. I'll take the R8. Or better yet a GTR.

@g00seman25n Everyday drivers like you or me will not be able to get the fullest out of the car. Also do not drive the ZR1 in the real world(you know roads that are not on a track). Your spine will hate you, i have heard complaints about the driveline, and the interior. .. dear god, the interior. Finally it is not any faster than the R8 on a curvy road(not on a track). Actually the R8 is probably faster due to better grip.

@Punjabi192 In 2009, when Motor Trend tested both the ZR1 and the R8, the, ZR1 had the best numbers in handling. And those numbers translate to real world driving. The ZR1 handles extremely well - especially with a good professional driver.
