The vette is faster than the r8 because of one reason, it has vastly more power. The r8 is a million times more sofisticated but it dosent help when it only as a fraction of the billion corvette horses
@TheEryk03 the body is made from aluminum and Carbon fiber. The chassis is made from aluminum and magnesium. The engine block and parts are all cast from aluminum. It doesn't claim to be a luxury sports car, it claims to be a Supercar, which it is.
zr1 is faster any day of the week, but honestly why pay 100k for a corvette when it doesnt look any different than its half priced base model that thousands of people own. Its not special. The R8 is like holy shit look at that because it's alot more rare.

@Punjabi192 In 2009, when Motor Trend tested both the ZR1 and the R8, the, ZR1 had the best numbers in handling. And those numbers translate to real world driving. The ZR1 handles extremely well - especially with a good professional driver.

Oh BTW the new zl1 does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Oh and the new mustang boss 302 produces 444 hp V8 engine!! Phantom and Maybach are nice cars but i love American muscle.
@italiankilla58 You're going a little off topic here... you're just listing a bunch of fairly average cars that have huge supercharged engines dropped into them. Euro super sedans have a similar philosophy, only they prefer naturally aspirated engines.
Modern muscle doesn't do it for me. There simply is no substitute for a car like the original Hemi Cuda.

Depends. Americans have made some "desirable" vehicles but not in the sense of luxury. For instance, collectables such as mid 50s corvettes, Ford GT40's, 67 shelby, Saleen, etc. At one point the Lincoln Towncar was the "executive car" and could've been above Mercedes but Lincoln ruined it for themselves, as most American car companies do. Can't really use Maybach as an example...you know, since they're going out of business next year and all.

In the real world with dusty roads cold Dump & wet weather the zr1 drifiting ability's on a dry road become a nightmare and more likely to crash in any non perfect road conditions . don't think you can put 640hp down on the road in just 6.9 sec to get to 100 mph because that is just stupid

I go to the track every weekend and nothing has fallen apart in three years of ownership. I beat the balls off my C6 and it's rock solid like the day I bought it. Best car I've ever owned! & who cares if the body is fiberglass, it saves weight, it doesn't dent like other cars, and if you're not crashing into stuff, it wont fall apart. I'm on my 3rd corvette and haven't had a single problem with any of them. No rattles, great gas mileage, cheap insurance and awesome power!
@IrishChris1979 I can tell a fellow Vette-owner when I see one. This guy knows about Vettes, he owns one. I bought a C5 4 years ago, and track-it regularly. Before I bought-it I was aprehensive about quality because of stuff like this video. After I started driving-it, I was so pleased! The thing has held-up awsome! I've driven Stangs, S2000, Miata, Porsche, etc. No question, in the US, a Vette is the best bang-for-your-buck sports car you can buy.

@HFLanciaStratos We americans have built a Cadillac cts-v which produces 556 hp and 551 pound feet of torque supercharged V8 corvette engine and need i remind u about the new chevy camaro zl1 which produces 580 hp and 556 pound feet of torque it's all wrapped in a supercharged V8. Oh BTW the new zl1 does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Oh and the new mustang boss 302 produces 444 hp V8 engine!! Phantom and Maybach are nice cars but i love American muscle.

@italiankilla58 You're going a little off topic here... you're just listing a bunch of fairly average cars that have huge supercharged engines dropped into them. Euro super sedans have a similar philosophy, only they prefer naturally aspirated engines.
Modern muscle doesn't do it for me. There simply is no substitute for a car like the original Hemi Cuda.

Depends. Americans have made some "desirable" vehicles but not in the sense of luxury. For instance, collectables such as mid 50s corvettes, Ford GT40's, 67 shelby, Saleen, etc. At one point the Lincoln Towncar was the "executive car" and could've been above Mercedes but Lincoln ruined it for themselves, as most American car companies do. Can't really use Maybach as an example...you know, since they're going out of business next year and all.

@niceboy60 v6's are made for mpg not for mph. the engine in a bugatti veyron was designed to go straight as fast as possible, and the engine in the veyron is a W16 , not a v16. GTR's are over-rated just because of it's 0-60 time, but what's funny is that it gets a slow 0-100 time. and what you just said about the corvette isn't true buddy. you're just another GTR fanboy who does nothing but talk shit 24/7...

@niceboy60 with its upgraded tires. it shaved 8 secs off it's nurburgring time. and with a good driver and a launch, on factory tires and stock everything , you can get a 2009 zr1 in the 10.6's and with DR's in the 10.3's. just imagine what the new 2012 zr1 would do , 10.4's with a good driver and launch ? what's the best run of the GTR ? 10.8 ? that's from 2013 and it's been updated like 5 times and corvettes were only updated once. btw , 2012 zo6 beat the 2013 gtr.

@Mystyfication That may be true, but the debate is on the R8, not the R18. The only races I've notably seen the R8 LMS in, was in the Nurburgring 24 (2010) which all R8's during that race year (5) have had mechanical issues which removed them from the race

I go to the track every weekend and nothing has fallen apart in three years of ownership. I beat the balls off my C6 and it's rock solid like the day I bought it. Best car I've ever owned! & who cares if the body is fiberglass, it saves weight, it doesn't dent like other cars, and if you're not crashing into stuff, it wont fall apart. I'm on my 3rd corvette and haven't had a single problem with any of them. No rattles, great gas mileage, cheap insurance and awesome power!

Before I bought-it I was aprehensive about quality because of stuff like this video. After I started driving-it, I was so pleased! The thing has held-up awsome! I've driven Stangs, S2000, Miata, Porsche, etc. No question, in the US, a Vette is the best bang-for-your-buck sports car you can buy.
