A better comparison would be between the ZR1 and the Porsche 911. Why? Both have been around about the same number of years, both are sports cars. Yet, when one compares the developmental curves and technological evolution of each car, the Porsche has evolved to a far higher degree than the Corvette. Sure, the ZR1 is a good cheap poke in the eye for fun, but it's disappointing because as good as it is (which isn't saying much) it could be so much better with a little effort.
As an American, I always look forward to the now obligatory cultural jab in every one of these UK Top Gear episodes that even mentions an American product. Just sort of roll my eyes and continue watching - great stuff. Certainly does get the YouTubers fired up, though, doesn't it?

I'd rather have the R8. It may fail in the straights, but handling in the turns makes it superior in actual racing conditions. Speaking as a former street racer who's expertise was running longer distances then 1/4 mile, I'd rather have a car that glided through corners with ease then brute power. It would be like Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris ( Finese vs. Strength )

Dear Jeremy, you are talking about ''plastics'' on ZR1, but you never said, that all small and powerful British cars have ''plastic'' body panels… (Lotus, Caterham, Westfield, TVR, Aston Martin, etc).
Composite ''plastics'' body panels are used on almost every newer Aston Martin, as well on every modern sport car. Do some research. Also USA car industry makes shit and crap cars, but Corvette ZR1 like new ZO6, Viper ACR, Boss 302, Camaro ZL1, are finally cars worth buying. Not only for DRAG, they can handle as well as Euro exotics. Primary ZR1 is made to compete against Euros on Ring.
Reason why its still ZR1 cheaper than many Euros is because V8 pushrod is cheaper to made than DOHC V8. ZR1 have all-aluminum alloy chassis very strong and stiff. Body panels on ZR1 are made from composite ''plastics'' which is far better than plastic used for keyboard. CCB brakes, bulletproof g-box, great aerodynamic, very stable at high speeds, and finally worth every coin. And I'm still biggest fan of JDM cars and ex-owner of NA Supra.

@MakeSh00t The Ford GT is out of the question simply because it is not in production; and older ones cost a shitload of money. Despite Audi being known for luxury cars, the R8 can easily go against a Gallardo. The GTR is fast, but it's uncomfortable.
Clearly, all you care about is speed and horsepower. A 140k bmw 7 series without luxury features would be a complete waste of money.

My favorite part is at 5:36 ... American cars = plastic cheap shit. So what if it's more powerful? It's got more liters and a supercharger...but look at the built quality, it's shit.
You can make a lot of cars have 600+ hp...and it won't cost you a $100,000 like that Vette.
So if horsepower is your only criteria then why even buy the Vette, you can get that same power and more for less.
The Audi R8 could have been better looking, but they fucked the styling which had potential up.

@Zahriel being on tv doesn't make you able to drive. there is no reason for him jerking the wheel as he does in the vette to put on a show. and 2 decades ago cars were only half as fast as they are now. Even just 10 years ago these type of cars aould have only made 3-400hp. We are talking double here! 638 to be exact. of course he's going to be able to control the slides better with the audi. that only has 500 and even less torque. you're right, facts are facts.. he can't drive!
