Maybe if I read the book I would be more taken by this forthcoming film, but trying to figure out the premise based on this trailer alone I think it looks a bit weak and mildly pretentious
I wanted so bad to grow up and make this book into a movie. They beat me to it, but it looks like they did an incredible job and I'll be first in line to buy a ticket.
This book is nothing short of spectacular and moving. Everyone, please read it first, it's totally completely worth it.
@threadbounded Oh wow, I feel so stupid. You're totally right, his father does own the family jewelry business! I have no idea how he became a firefighter in my head. I apologize!
@alexnozomu I was SOOOO excited when Jennifer said "and...Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Scott Rudin, Producer." SOOO Deserved! As Well As Max von Sydow's performance. I wish Sandra could have snuck in somehow.
can we just stop it with the whole boo hoo poor America stuff ? How about the tens of thousands of people the American empire kills daily ? how about Palestine ? how about what it did to other countries in the 20th century ? How about a movie about trying to conquer in one way or another every country in its proximity - Canada,Mexico... Yes what happened was a tragedy, and shouldn't have happened but there are things as horrible happening everyday due to americans
@yellowwasp09 Oh wow, mr. Know it All appears on the scene. Look, the book isn't the best book ever, the movie is probably not going to be the best movie ever but the fact that it plays in America does not mean it glorifies the United States. It's a story about loss and despair, something that could play to any backdrop. In this case that is the aftermath of 9/11.
The whole world is built on foundations on blood, not every piece of entertainment ever has to acknowledge every blood drop spilled.
@yellowwasp09 If you did, in fact, read this book, which it sounds like you DID NOT, then you'd know that this book tells two stories. One of the stories is based on "the American empire" fire-bombing the city of Dresden. So before you start complaining about how books or movies always play the "boo hoo America" part you should go back and re-read this book to obtain a better understanding of what it's truly about. It seems to me that you probably only looked at the pictures that the book had.
@Croxyndul So films like Schindler's List, The Great Dictator, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Everything is Illuminated, and Jakob the Liar are all equally appalling? Strange, most people find them moving and inspiring.
@Chad48309 any film adaptation of a real incident in which many people died is appalling. I'm sure they wouldn't want their death to be monetized in any way.
@Croxyndul Are you completely blind to the world that we live? Look at every significant human tragedy in history as we know it. Now watch the movie made about it. Point proven.
@Croxyndul Right, because your opinion invalidates the 158 likes this video has (so far). Think what you want, but the vast majority of us are mature enough to understand that the 9/11 attacks don't need to be ignored to be remembered. In fact, that doesn't even make any sense. What do you think never mentioning them would accomplish, anyway?
@HipsterKitteh who's saying anything about ignoring it, what's wrong with you. you think the people making movies about those tragedy give a shit about it. they only care about the money they'll make out of it.
@Croxyndul Yeah, isn't it funny how they're using the story of the book that the movie is based on in order to make money? Shame on them for sticking true to Jonathan Safran Foer's original novel.
@DRILLZfc why ? Because probably you are subscribed to hollywoodstreams ... What you just saw ? 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' movie trailer...
