These people were just doing their job. The police were just doing their job. Why wouldn't they take action after some of the events that took place? Did you expect them to sit around and wait for something even worse to occur? And when I would pass by the park, I could see and smell the drugs that some were doing. Berkeley is a city that has residents who are open-minded, and who know how to fight for a right peacefully. There is no reason why people in this day should be using racial slurs.

But then it became a place engulfed with homeless people, there was a report for an attempted rape, and people were carrying weapons. My family member was repeatedly called racial slurs. I understand that the City of Berkely employees took away the protesters items, but these people were just doing their jobs. They have families to feed, a home to tend to. The City of Berkeley was fed up with all of the issues that were going on in the park.

I'm a student at Berkeley High School, and i've been keeping up with the Occupy movement. I understand what the Occupy Movement is about, and what many of the people at the campsite in the park were doing. A family member of mine was driving that truck, and after he told me what occured that night, I was dissapointed. When this whole occupy site started, it was peaceful, clean, and there was no problem.

@ericflu1 Peaceful protest is protected by the first amendment. The protesters were not violent and thus had a right to continue their non violent protest. Whether or not you feel that sitting around or not is an effective way to protest is your opinion, but it is their right to assemble under the first amendment. Besides, I believe police can't use violence until the protesters become violent, which they didn't.
