  • That's an Austrailian ad,not a British ad.

  • I always used to think that bloke was a young Alistair Mcgowen, but I think he may have been a bit old by then...I still think they look eerily similar. This is the sort of sega advert I remember. Didn't seem to see much of the 'Nintendo bashing' ones, although there obviously are enough of em! I miss the old cold war gaming days...the passing of sega is one of those things that makes you realise time changes everything...unfortunately.

  • 0:15 Adrien Brody

  • hahahaha

to be this good takes ages...and SEGA's wits!

  • OMG young Peter Wingfield AWWWWWWW he looks so cute but I like him as Methos from Highlander even more

  • And yes it is funny seeing Canary Wharf lit only by the builders worklights on a couple of floors! Christ you'd probably get done for terrorism if you parked a whacky Sega lorry up there now and started filming!

  • The ad that is always missing from blogs is 'howdhedodat' and thats available from the site of the cinematographer...

    w w w (dot) gboyle (dot) co (dot) uk / HOW%20qt.HTM

Also check out the 'cyber razor cut' ad in perfect film quality (almost). I'm sure someone with more brains than me will upload them both here!

  • @ glockers nope its british gymnast chong thong

  • The Ninja was British Trampolinist Sean McLoughlin

  • GAYEM GEYAH

  • No mention of Blast Processing in the UK commercial of Mega Drive/Genesis.

  • The boy used Chaos Control

  • Saiga? What the fuck?

  • Playing Sonic can help you own ninjas?

    WTF...

  • Couldn't stand Sonic, It's OK when you're speeding about, but then you hit something and he stops completely and then he's really slow for a couple of seconds.

    Bunch of ARSE!

  • Canary wharf looks a bit.........empty

  • Wow, as if you'd get fast just by playing 'sonic'.

  • was that peter wingfeld?

  • @lamparalaptopiaguita

If you're talking about the guy playing Sonic, he IS BRITISH (well Welsh)

  • @lamparalaptopiaguita Welsh RETARD fucking Americans we fucking owned u and we can easily do it again

  • @lamparalaptopiaguita thanks for sharing ....

  • I think this ad is from 1992 because I have that game gear that's bundled with Sonic, which was from that time just before Sonic 2 was out.

  • i remember watching it when i was little.

  • holy shit the docklands in background lolz

  • This makes me feel embarrassed to be English.

  • Agreed

  • don't worry mario will catch him

  • Noddy Holder?

  • Methos?

  • "Everything else seems a bit slow" - what, like the gimped 50hz version of the game you're playing?

  • Loool, "To be this good takes AGES, to be this good takes SEGA" I find that line quite admirable.

  • Superb slogan!

  • It shows that the advert was memorable. 'Don't worry I'll catch him' was a great way to end this one!

  • Good thing you could hack a PAL megadrive to run at NTSC speed if you had a SCART lead for it, just needed you to fit a couple of switches to it.

  • @mononokehime316uk

lol i thought about the same thing when watching this.. even the music was slower.

  • i rememer sonic 1 on my mega drive started about 6am up until about 9-10 am, my sega was scolding hot but at least i completed it.

i also got sonic one on master system II built into the console

  • what, 3-4 hours playing and it got that hot ?

  • It is the guy who played Methos in the Highlander series and two films. The guy's name is Peter Wingfield and I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing Methos in this advert by having a bit of time out from the other immortals. :) Good advert anyway.

  • That looks like the guy who played Methos in the Highlander tv series and last two films

  • He looks the star actor from teh movie, "The Pianist."

  • dont worry, i'll catch him

    CLASSIC line

  • think it would of been called megadrive in america but for some reason they couldnt use that name so they had to change it to genesis

  • the reason was they already had some thing called mega drive thats why they had to change it to that aweful name

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for uploading this, I'd seen it when I was about five and had had a half-memory of it ever since! I can't say it makes a whole lot more sense than how I remembered it...

  • that is true every other video game character seems slow

  • Is it only me that thinks its Alistair McGowen the now psuedo famous impressionist. As in doing a good impression of Bush not a painter.

  • He does look like Alistair McGowan! You've got me wondering now...

  • I had this ad on tape at the time it was on TV. I used to rewind it and watch it over and over.

  • Nothing makes me want to buy Sonic games more than eye-raping, blurry, washed-out, game footage.

  • wierd how they like turned against shinobi and are like dissing him in this ad.

  • I loved the "to be this good takes ages" campaign. Even though at the time, you was either a mario player or sonic, I was a mario (itsame)

  • Hehe, I've been wanting to watch this series of ads again for ages. Nostalgia is a great thing. Thanks for posting this!

  • Did the narrator squeeze in a "feck y'all" in the end there?

  • Nah, he's saying Thank you in a very dodgy accent. :)

  • @SegaMarkUK the accent is british

  • haha yeah thats a feck y'all for sure!

  • Sounds like 'Thank you' in a very dopey midlands accent.

Which sounds more like Thank yaow

  • I didn't know he was saying anything else ^-^; Just instantly took it for thank you

  • @geckoyamori

Nah, he said "thank you" at the end.

  • Lol @ the rotating chair with TV built in.

  • Mate, you know you want one! I do, haha.

  • Hah, as do I. Looks intense!
