I guess what sets Nancy apart is her intelligence. Even with her first album she was a wise singer, nothing naive or cutesy about her, no posing. There's never been any sense of her acting when she performs. She always, each time up to bat, inhabits every song. She came to success very young and that's the worst thing that can happen to any singer because along the way it's easy to lose the first blush of passion. It never happened to her. She caught fire and stayed aflame.
I'm spoiled, I've always been loved, yet now that I've aged it doesn't seem so. I can't wait for my second childhood so that I may be loved again. The one I loved is gone
Singer with unique voice and style and she sings with her heart...now a days, singers don't sing like this anymore, no feelings ;-\ Nancy is one of my favorite singers!!!
Nancy is one of those triple threat female singers: She looks beautiful, has a beautiful singing voice, and has that natural ability to tear into the emotion of a song. A classic, classy, lady!
This is what i call "really singing." Nancy Wilson is the greatest. She sings with so much passion and emotion and really feels the song. Her voice is incredible.
Wow she sings a few words and im already dreaming! :)
But there are also very great jazz ladies today. I know some jonger girls, that have almost intense voices than her. True jazz feeling will probably never die :)
Oh, I see the years and it's still me. Like the rose that I've never see--I want it to be you. Like the love that I've never shared, to the tender moments, my life--my dear. Just like Nancy, the pain of love moves across my chest; begging for more, I find so little--in you. (like that?) :)
My mom is a huge fan and she saw her recently in Charlotte, NC and she said that Nancy has done an impeccable job of preserving her voice...still very "breathy"...can still hold those long head notes, and still "yodels" better than anyone around. Im 38, and when I hear my favorites like Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan and Phyllis Hyman, I know EXACTLY who they paid attention to. First name, Nancy...last name, Wilson. She's one of the very few real divas left from her group.
cremson3~Don't Misunderstand is from the masterpiece "I Know I Love Him" which is a brilliant 1973 Lp backed by The Crusaders but Capitol Records for some strange reason has not released it or any of Nancy's other 70's classics~the air must be thin up in those Capitol Towers!
A woman I know said it best: "she(Nancy)has gold in her throat." She's 70 this year, and one of the last old lionesses. I hope to go see her this summer.
She has great pipes and sultry voice and demeanor. I just discovered her and went on itunes for more. I foubd out that she sang the title song of the movie the First wives club, well I should say they used her song "Wives and lovers" recorded in the 60's.
Nobody can phrase a song like Nancy! It doesn't get better than this!

Great performance.
I've just posted Shirley Horn's extraordinary version as a response to this video, and, I really hope the poster of this video allows me to do that.
Both versions are FANTASTIC in their own way.:)
