  • why ae that didn't have a instrumental version?

  • And here we go for the... 28th replay today!

  • I love it xD

  • can't get enough of this.....

  • ...FREEZE....

  • Though the musicianship of the Sugar Hill version is far superior, this original version has a real punky/garage-y feel to it. I only just heard it for the 1st time, on Huey Morgan's 6 Music show.......top tune.

  • @RedBryn You have a link to this Sugar Hill version?

  • @Chameleonardodavinci The Sugar Hill version is the track 'White Lines' by Grandmaster Melle Mel. The in-house band were Doug Wimbish (bass), Keith Le Blanc (drums), & Skip McDonald (guitar) - otherwise known as 'Tackhead'.

  • @RedBryn you mean grandmaster flash

  • @worddeep3 Nah, that's a popular misconception. It was Mel Glover (Melle Mel) who wrote the lyrics, & rapped on 'White Lines'.......Flash had left the fold, the previous year in 1982.

    PEACE!

  • @RedBryn thanks for that, but its still credited to grandmaster flash and the furious five and not sugarhill gang ?

  • @worddeep3 Nah, on it's release in 83 it was credited to 'Grandmaster & Melle Mel'. Subsequent releases ('Beat Street' & 'We Don't Work For Free') were credited to 'Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious 5. The last Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 release was 'Scorpio' (1982).

My reference to 'Sugar Hill' concerned the label/stable they were from, & not to the 'Sugar Hill Gang' per se.

The in-house band of Wimbish, Le Blanc, & McDonald played on all the labels releases.

    PEACE!

  • @RedBryn oh, yeah i understand now :)

  • classic

  • I went to Roseland NYC at about 1984, and this was the jam, Everyone was spinning on their heads (literally) with this jam.

  • @nightbt had to love Roseland...remember `the ballbusters`..

  • TUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • liquid liquid cavern was the original.

master flash stole it and made a rubbish version. That's why breakers dont use it =]

  • @Skiptini

Hey now, the Grand Master's version wasn't rubbish, & I know plenty of breakers (including myself) that (while the original is best) respect The Grand Master's version!

  • @DaigojiGai Yea it sounds good, but it is all borrowed (read: ripped-off) Remind me what instrument Melle Mel played?

  • @larryjeeves it's not ripped off it's the original.

  • @YourTubeSpellChecker The Original rip-off? I just mashed up my ringtone on my phone, I am ORIGINAL!

  • @DaigojiGai Sorry I agree with larryjeeves, Melle Mel ripped this off big time, and those silly horns he put in there were just lame.

  • watchin this movie right now.

  • The line, "Something Like A Phenomenon", also taken from this song for LL Cool J's song "Phenomenon".

  • and it was sampled by the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" in their song "Phenomena"

  • atmospheric elaboration on German expressionism. Find this movie free @ Movie Watcher [.] US
