cummins is one of the best diesels you can buy. i have been in truck pull comps and mud comps. i can say that dodge cummins always out pull and i havent lost to a chevy or a ford yet of the same class in my dodge.

@TheTraxxas33 the 5.7 is a chevy 350. i believe 1999 was the last year for the 350 block. now gm produces the 5.3 which is a 327 and the 6 liter which is a bored out version of a 5.3. i personally like the 350 block more. its just a classic engine used for over 30 years

@pizzaisgood14 2002 was the last year for the 350, It was used in the first generation Express/Savanas from 1996-2002 till they were redesigned in 03 then got they went to the 5.3. also according to GM the current 5.3 is a 325, the old 327 was 5.4 GM's old 5.3 was a Pontiac 326. I have an old Pontiac Tempest I'm working on that has the 5.3 326, I initially thought it was a 327 till I talked to some guys and found out.

bros got the sam engine is 98 cheyenne only with a straight pipe and k&n cold air intake he gets 288hp out of his and a max speed of 107mph but he has upgraded the back to support a full 10000 pounds which isnt bad for a 3/4 ton

I'm 90% sure that the Chev 302 had 290 hp, while the Ford was rated at 220 hp (even though my friends '82 Pickup was dynoed, and rated around 114 hp). The 318 LA for Dodge made around 230 hp. But the 318 A made around 260 hp... LOL!

What year is this? I got a 98 with a 5 speed and it jumps about a car length when I hit second. I do have a brand new heavy duty ceramic clutch though. Its funny as hell to watch people that think they know how to drive stick try and move it :D

i have a problem with my chevy 1997 1500.

it turns on and everything..problem is that when i stop it turns off. i have to pump the brake so it wont turn off. i dont think its the booster because its new. i also changed the injectors. i think its something with the AVS. If anyone got any idea whats the problem or could help me to find out i would appreciate it

i really dont know im letting it go because it hasnt been a problem for me yet. I also just replaced the fuel injectors. I have 220,800 miles so other than the ocassional stall when its getting warm it runs perfect so im not going to let it bother me.

i have to disagree. Since the 1970's the factory horsepower rating at a rpm is net horsepower, as in what makes it to the wheels. The factory spec is 255 hp. Before the 1970's the horsepower rating was gross horsepower, as in at the crank.

What's up with all thumbs down?? I didn't say it was slow, I just said that it wasn't fast, which is a pretty accurate assessment whether your a Chevy fan or not. The truck is clearly geared for towing not racing, and the engine is tuned for low end power, which is one of the reason's it's not that quick, not slow, just not quick..

you need to look up what gear ratios are used for just exactly what pre-post.. maybe I'll save you the few minutes you should have taken to begin with. towing gears and standing-start gears are at one end of the ratio bell curve. short gearing is what works for towing and acceleration contests, each for obvious reasons. as long as I could go on about this (fuckin 500 limit), the truck is quick. important: big inches=low-end power. a smaller engine could have much more horsepower, stock. read up!

Well, that definitely wasn't impressive by any means, but with a 0-60 of about 9 seconds, I guess that's about what I expected it to do. If you think that it's powerful, then you probably haven't been in very many vehicles. All that really matters is that you like it, so vortec power I guess!

Those sports cars with 1/3 the weight and the same power are obviously going to be faster. This is not slow for a stock truck with 175,000 miles on it.
