I'm surprised they mentioned exiling it while the persist trigger is on the stack instead of just using a card like unmake to exile it in the first place.
so, if my opponent has two safehold elite's in play and one drove of elves, if i play an infest, would that create a dominoe effect killing all three creatures?
No I don't think so. Safehold Elite is a 2/4 and Drove of Elves will be a 3/3. Safehold will be a 0/2 and Drove of Elves will be a 1/1 if you cast an Infest.
in the video it shows safehold elite as a 2/2 so in that case it would work? i guess i'm wondering if the -2/-2 from infest still affects the persist creature after it returns from the graveyard to play. i'm pretty sure the drove of elves would die when they first go into the graveyard but not totally sure.
Ever since time spiral there has been a rule that dictates that +1/+1 counters not just cancel but destroy -1/-1 counters. Those are the only type of counters that do so, by the way.
I'm just echoing what dancinginfidel is saying here. I always played it if a card had a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, the card has two counters on it. If Wizards keeps changing the rules they'll make the game less and less fun.
why , if a card had a -1/-1 COUNTER on it & then you added a +1/+1 COUNTER , even though their effects cancel each other out , wouldn't BOTH COUNTERS continue to "stay on" the card ?......OR are "counters" actually virtual ?
Brandon should be introducing himself at the beginning of every of these Shadowmoor videos. Recall the lesson from the Weatherlight Saga: players aren't exposed to the cards in the order that you want the story to appear and sometimes can be confused. Similarly, viewers aren't exposed to the videos in the order that you want them to watch.

If you have a Juniper Order Ranger in play then it effectively cancels out the -1/-1 counter, although that card is from Coldsnap.

Blowfly infestation + Cauldron of souls ( All of your creatures get persist) = many possibilitys
Jonasproduction 3 years ago
Though it can be brought back as a 2/2 if you use a card like Fate Transfer.

yeah...went & sludged through the comp. rules & 420.5m confirms that the 2 counters would "destroy" each other...

I want to know what spell puts that many -1/-1 counters on the creature at 1:57 lol.

Then I guess the Wither ability nullifies the persist ability?
GrimjawxRULES 3 years ago
i would assume so
riader0 3 years ago
Then, I guess, creatures with persist would be pretty vulnerable to the creatures with wither .. hmmm .. interesting :)
GrimjawxRULES 3 years ago
This could be bad-ass with other spells that deliver "comes into play" abilities for creatures.
dark420bishop 3 years ago
The other main way to deal with persist creatures easily is to slap O-Rings onto them.
