  • this was great! thank you!!!!! learning from an old Salt is the BEST way to learn how to get some good eatin meals. THANK YOU JOE!

  • it tastes like shark they are from the same family

  • WHAT ABOUT THE TAIL ??? YOU WASTE TOO MUCH !!!!

  • what a wonderful, normal life video!

Looks like something you could eat, even if you are allergic to shellfish. He says they taste like crab or scallops

  • so much waste....

  • Lol good vid but come on help the old man out will ya

  • Thanks for that. I got my first skate (Blonde Ray here) last night while freediving. Fascinating creatures.

  • good job i was curious do u leave the skin on?

  • Love this video. A good fisherman, cleaning his catch.

  • Thanks man, I really needed to know how to do this.

  • Whoa joe is a good fisher thats a lot of skate. I just have one question. What do you use as bait? I have been fishing for skate/ thornbacks many times, and never have cought oje because i have no idea what bait to use so i use worms. People all aroin me catch them, except me. So can you please tell me the bait you use? Thank you so much.

  • @Honeebuket I fined Squid works the best. Just cut the squid in slithers so that was it looks like a worm then put your hook threw it twice 2 keep it on.

  • @TrueTopDog321 Buddy, I am a science freak. Forget abt that shit. Point is about being humble to any living creature. Do you love to be green? I do. You know how much a cow /chicken is fed too & finally, we kill them to eat .. How much resources are wasted to produce that meat.

Being green & being humble is about being vegetarian, my frnd.

  • @kedarnevergone there weren't that many resources used in catching and cleaning skate. your argument is dumb, dude. I caught a bunch of these today, and it took me a long drive, and a few bait fish I caught using bloodworms. I took out a slice of nature's very own food chain, and stuck myself into the equation. How's that not green and humble? I paid the animal the respect of eating him after catching him instead of killing for sport, just like the grandpa in this video.

  • @kedarnevergone wat r u talking about? im actually against killing any animals unless u HAVE to. and im saying that re-incarnation

    DOESNT happen

  • @kedarnevergone Every natural thing was put on this earth for a reason plants, animals, everything. There is nothing wrong with humans killing animals for food it's what they were intended for. Well certain animals cows, fish, ect. Others for companions. Killing them for sport is a different story. Resources are used regardless of what you eat fuel is used to plant & harvest veggies. If you want to eat veggies all your life power to you but you don't have to talk down to people who eat meat.

  • grandpa you are great!

  • How do you cook it? I tried to cook a clearnose skate like that one and it was almsot impossible to chew. I am not saying it was chewing, i mean my teeth couldnt even break the flesh.....Do you use a crock pot or something? cook it for 10 hours?

  • In Europe we love rays of all kinds......and grandpa is spot on they taste like crab! I hope I am like him when I am older, I'll tell all you youngun's this , listen to old folk , because when the pre-war old folk are gone they're gone and so is the knowledge they have........

  • I caught 18 of these today and was wondering if I could eat them. Thank you so much for this video post. This kid will be eating well!

  • @bassxpro man all rays are top eating.....

  • thank you joe i fished florida all my life and just learned you can eat ray. i saved 4 the other day and now have them filled and skinned, time to cook.

  • Great video. Sea robins or gournard is known to be very good. 5 stars!

  • Enjoyed that. I didn't know people eat stingrays until recently. I may give it a try one day.

  • it taste delicious! the bones on its "wings" are soft; somewhat like sardine.

  • i wish my grandpa could teach me something like this. Thanks for the lesson. great job.

  • i skin the wings like i would skin a catfish then i cut the wings off and fry them

  • and when i catch them i have two sets of plyers, one to grab the tail and the other to pull the stinger out it's tail. Its alot safer than leaving it.

  • "Good Ole" Jersey Boy!!!!

  • lol...."Any kind of these wing-like things." This video gave me a lot of confidence. Thank you.

  • It's so nice to see a grandpa active and liking what he do. Reminds me of my grandpa. Great job! :)

  • ugh them and Sea Robins are bait snatchers. They eat your bait meanwhile, they don't have as much meat as Fluke of Grouper

  • great job! they taste great .
