  • Maybe dry with a hair dryer on low??

  • very information thank you!

  • This was a wonderfully informative video, you made it look so easy. Thank you

  • how can i get one them hats

  • One person said that after cleaning the seeds with a strainer, he temporarily mixes the seeds back into a clean bowl of water and removes any seeds that float to the top (as they are non-viable). Do you know if this is correct?

  • @1nfoJunkie yes that is true

  • Tyvm

  • Thank You! !!!!!!!!!!! So much! !!!!!

  • Awesome thankyou for this Vid

  • Awesome video! Thank you for posting this. I guess I'm a visual learner, because I felt so overwhelmed reading the steps to saving seeds in a gardening book, but watching you do it, it's quite simple.

  • loved the video, I appreciate the help, I had disease follow me from my saved seeds i planted this year from last years seeds. The one thing you didnt mention is how bad those jars stink after sitting for a week! But seriously, i appreciate the time you took to do this video, it helped me greatly. Thumbs up and favorited. Thanks again!

  • I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you.

  • Can you save seeds from a green tomato or do they have to be ripe first?

  • Great video, thanks for sharing

  • Nice how to video. I just did this for the first time with some tomatoes from the farmers market. I plan on growing some tomatoes indoors during the winter for early fresh tomatoes. I have an indoor garden setup to do my starts indoors so I am going to give a try at a complete indoor winter grow. I may even try to root out some cuttings from them for the outside come spring.

  • enjoyed this video.. how was the germ on these seeds?

  • did she say "hair-loom" ?..all these years I thought it was "air-loom" ? ....lol

  • god job! very informative video!

  • As a garden/tomato noob, last year I didn't pick any of the tomatoes that fell from the vine into the pot that I was growing them in. I thought, "oh well, they'll compost, whatever!" But I completely forgot about the seeds! They stayed in the pot all thru winter, and come Feb while I was pulling weeds I noticed that I had two tomato plants growing! One of them was in my squash pot from last year, lol. Feel terrible now, I'd pulled out maybe 5 clusters of 15ish tomatoes sprouting. Now I know!

  • i like the skull on your himminey pretty kool , i tried this system im still waiting i got one more day thanks

  • the way i do it is easier. you put the seed from the tomato on a piece of paper towel or wax paper and let it ferment and let the material dry naturally.then simply scrape the seeds off into a bag and plant them the next season. the heirloom tomatoes from whole foods are excellent examples of huge tomatoes.ive grown many from this method and it is simple as pie and always a huge success.this way is allright but a little too much work. let the seed do all the work for you.no offense.

  • Thank you so very much. This was so very very informative.

    Great job !

  • I really appreciate this simple easy demonstration on how to hand process tomato seeds .......many many thanks and all the best to you and yours !

  • Very informative.

  • that is the first time i have seen saving seeds that way thank you..never to old to keep learning lol

  • Thanks for this video, very cool! A question: like you did the process of extracting the seeds from the cavities, would I be able to use to seeds straight away in seed starters? I basically want to take a tomato, take the seeds out and plant straight away. Is that possible or do I have to go through the process you are showing, maybe until the drying part? Or do I have to let them dry as well? Thanks for your help.

  • thanks alot for that bit of information, thats great stuff! This is way better than cable. keep em coming :)

  • when will be seeing more of your canning videos ? love to learn how other people do this.

  • Interesting, don't get me wrong. I'd consider that for myself. How did those folks save seeds years upon years ago? Fermenting, do ya think?

  • How long are seeds able to be stored?

  • Great vid! Many thanks to drutter for pointing this video out. =^[.]^=

  • HomesteadAcres, do you pay property taxes> Out here in New Jersey, it's up to $5000/year.

  • why does your wife never go on camera

  • Unfortunately, this is not the recommended way to save tomato seeds.

The seeds that sink to the bottom of the jar are the ones you want, not the ones floating on top as well.

  • Thanks for posting that. You have showed me the way. I will grow my own tomatoe seeds.

  • You don't grow seeds... you grow tomatos.

  • you got me,,,lol. I will grow tomato, for the seeds.

  • Great video. Love how you showed in a simple and easy to understand manner how to save tomato seeds.

  • Great video, thanks for sharing.

  • without watching your video,i would have been LOST ! thank you so much, you made it look so EASY ! and now IT IS !

    THANK YOU :)

  • You say in your intro that you don't know everything, but you sure know a lot. What a wealth of information, how did you get it? You can't go to school for this. That's the way my grandmother used to keep seeds, but she's gone. People just don't know this stuff, I'm impressed!! Keep them coming, I'm learning lots!!

  • Its in every corporations interest that we know as little as possible to the benefit.

  • Thank you ,very helpful can't wait till the next vid.

  • Almost never leave a reply, but great video again and still like the channel. I like the learning stuff of the channel. Some more vids on saving seads would be great.

  • Kim, Great video! I had no idea about the fermentation step. (I REALLY need to read my seed saving book?!) I would have just put the tomato seeds on the counter to dry and then wondered why they didn't grow the next year. Seed saving is brand new territory for me. Gotta learn this skill fast. . . . For some reason, I always think the fruit / vege has to be well beyond ripe for the seeds to be ready, but that doesn't seem to be the case. More seed saving videos please!

  • Great Video, proving once again that youtube isn't just for car crashes and wardrobe malfuntions! Thanks for the informative video,I was planing on saving some seeds this year anyway,I had some great tomatoes this year, and want make sure I'll have the same variety next season. Thanks again!

  • terrific video!

  • You guys are REALLY amazing... I appreciate all the time you put into sharing your tips and how tos. I watch most of your videos and always learn something. I made your laundry soap - pretty cool. This is stuff you cant find on TV - You do a great job - my sincere appreciation! Please keep up the good work!

  • Very helpful, thanks for the information.

  • do they need to be stored in the fridge or can they just be left in a paper evelope?

  • Any cool, dry place should be fine. :-)

  • Useful video - thanks!

  • excellent video mrs. homesteadacres , very frugal idea there for saving your tomatoe seeds, great post video.

  • Thank you for the post! You are a wealth of knowledge!

  • Wow! Thank you very much! That is something I did not know.

    This video is a keeper.

    John !

  • thanks, that was informative

    :)

  • What is the added benefit of letting it sit in the jar for several days? If you are going to rinse all the gel off when you clean them afterwards anyway, why not just go directly from removing the pulp, to straining and drying? Just seems like a labour-intensive extra step with no real purpose to let them sit in the jar, deal with mold, etc.

  • The gel is dissolved by the fermenting process and is already gone when I rinse the seeds. Its the little bits of "meat" from the tomatoes that I'm rinsing off afterwords. It would take longer to let that ferment away. Fermenting the seeds also helps to kill off many of the diseases that could hurt your plants the next year.

  • Wow great video. I learned something new :-)

  • kewl

  • that's great info. Can we have more on saving different types of seeds please?

  • did you ever grow ox heart tomatos? i sun dry my seeds.

  • thx about to do some of that.

  • Thanks for sharing! I always wondered how to save these, and this will come in handy! How do you do potatos for next year?

  • ARGHH!! Tap water!! I hope you have well water. To anyone else, use filtered or bottled water when doing this. Fluoride and pharmaceuticals are not good for you, despite what the FDA tells you. :)

  • If you plant that many seeds... You will need a Catsup factory next fall LOL. Btw javalily, review Homesteadacre's other videos. You will find one where they were repairing their well. Beyond that... Get the bigger picture. There is a good chance there won't be any tap water or grocery stores in a couple of years. These folks are preparing for that possible future, by saving these seeds. ARE YOU PREPARING??? Or will you starve, flouride free?

  • I'm fully aware of bigger picture. I'm just making a friendly suggestion to those who don't know about the dangers of fluoride(amongst the many other things in tap water). I'm not talking about a couple of yrs from now,or what could happen,I'm simply suggesting not to use tap water when doing this NOW.And thank you for your concern,as matter of fact I am preparing,or else I wouldn't be watching a vid on how to store seeds. Why would you assume I'm not? Jeez...

  • No put down intended Javalily. I tend to assume that most people on Youtube aren't preparing... Because most of the people on here that consider themselves "Awake", spend all their time watching videos about things like the Georgia Guidestones.... and do zero preparing. Sorry if I put you in with the majority.
