I first completed this game at age 19 in 2009. I thought the game in terms of graphics were really bland for the time, but the aesthetic was where the visuals shined. The soundtrack was diverse and each song being for a unique situation as all game soundtracks should. The storyline was cool. I haven't played an SNES RPG about a statue that corupts the population of the world aiding an alien invasion. Flaws discussed in part 2.

You can play it with one hand, the writing is spectacular with each NPC having something interesting to say depending on the situation, the outside of battle mechanics are cool with the preemptive strikes and even killing enemies without fighting which won't drag the game. The flaws are item storage being too little, dated battle mechanics, some commands that don't work, and the broken difficulty curve. There's a non-fanboy review.

I mean I love both the Mother series and the Paper Mario series (though I like Thousand Year Door more than SPM or the first game in the series) because they both seem to use humor to keep you going (though I have to admit the original Paper Mario's humor was pretty lighthearted which is one reason I prefer TYD for it's more subtle hidden underlying adult humor) and like Earthbound the NPCs will usually have *2bcont.*

Though only several people from Ape/Creatures had involvement with Mother 3,. well the completed GBA version at least, they were too busy with their own matters to *2bcont.*

Earthbound is quite an amazing game. I would constantly see my friend's brother playing it on SNES back in the day, but never asked what it was or even attempted to try it. Many years later a friend loaned a copy to me and I played it like crazy.

It's a bit dated, but don't let that hold you back. It has a great, heart-warming (sometimes terrifying) story, bizarre characters and many genuinely funny moments. Definitely one of the best RPGs ever made.
