@buymeamic N66/5N66M/76N6 Clam Shell low level early warning radar, is an unconventional frequency modulated continuous wave design, using a split antenna arrangement with a large beak to prevent spillover from the transmitter. Quoted performance figures include the detection of targets with an RCS as low as 0.02 square metres, at speeds of up to 1,400 kt, with a bearing resolution of 1 degree, velocity resolution of 9.3 kt and range resolution of 2.15 NM.
@eviltwin777 The Patriot missile travels at Mach 5, the S-400 missile travels at Mach 12. The S-400 is definitely the better missile. Russia is also working on the S-500 Autocrat as an upgrade to the S-400.
@DeathToChaosGods Ok junior, lets gets this straight. First you are saying that a ground to air missile will to Mach 12, I threw the "bullshit" flag, and you counter with a SLBM. Now which fucking missile are we going to talk about, SLBM's which will do better than Mach 17, or a damn surface to air missile which as far as I know, the details are still classified. You kids kill me with your hard driven arguements based on bullshit and supposition. Think thermal issues!!!!!!!
@sakoshooter48 It's one thing to be ignorant of publicly available knowledge, but anyone whose only argument against it is to throw down cheap vulgarities has no business referring to anyone as a 'kid'. The S-400 reaches a max speed of Mach 12 and the Trident II reaches Mach 17, if you are somehow incapable of comprehending such large numbers, there's no need to be embarrassed, and even less need to compensate by insulting people who are clearly smarter or at least better informed than you are.
@DeathToChaosGods What you think your accuracy of public information is is your business. If you are a Wikipedia fan then I understand your enthusiasm for the S-400. One of the fastest ever atmospheric missiles was the Sprint ABM interceptor, no missile since then has ever accelerated so fast. At Mach 10 the missile glowed brightly with the intense heat. My intention was not to insult you but to question the validity of your information. Just because Wikipedia says so doesn't make it true.
@sakoshooter48 A valid point, which is why the information about the S-400 comes from Jane's Info Group, a publishing company that specialises in military topics. The Trident II data comes from James N. Gibson's "Nuclear Weapons of the United States" and Norman Friedman: "World Naval Weapons Systems." As for the Sprint ABM, any object moving fast enough will glow brightly due to friction with the atmosphere, and I didn't say anything about the acceleration of either the S-400 or the Trident II.
@DeathToChaosGods Technically speaking, I believe, and so do many of my colleques, that the S-400/500 series of missiles is a fabulous technical front for a theater ABM. I think it is on parody with THAAD as I believe that any ground to air SAM that has an impulse speed of Mach 12 is..........overkill? It is interesting to me how we design systems to defeat Russian SAM systems, they design the systems to overcome our technology. Fun and never ending! I get Janes anually too!
@sakoshooter48 I don't think its necessarily overkill, obviously an anti-air missile system has to be faster than its target, but an experienced pilot can evade the missile with countermeasures and skillful maneouvring. The faster the missile can close with the target, the less time the target has to detect and respond. But I agree the S-400/500 program seems more like an ABM system than a SAM, then again maybe the Russians are just showing off.
@DeathToChaosGods They don't need to show off thier SAM systems. Too many aircraft with stars and stripes on them have been removed from the sky by them. Still, for every measure, there will always be a countermeasure! Going to be a very interesting time as the USAF's airborne laser platform comes on line. I can only imagine the controversy it will cause the first time it gets used for something other than missile defence.
@sakoshooter48 That's basically what I said in my last post, I couldn't think of anything else tactical lasers would be used for. But I can see what you mean; the implications for the global military market will be far reaching indeed, everyone will be rushing to make their aircraft and missiles laser proof as well as working to develop their own lasers.
This thing have no FLAP LID so Patriot have no ability to engage Tomahawk class missles. Enough said.

This but S-400 is considered better by Russia but doesn't have any combat history.

@DeathToChaosGods Mach 12, not likely!

@sakoshooter48 Trust me, it does. The Trident II ICBM reaches just of Mach 17.
