Well, I've always followed politics closely, but I try not to comment too much, because I feel that I already have my hands full with philosophy. That being said; when a scumbag like Stevens goes down, it is hard not to rejoice in a public fashion. =0
ironic clip content choice: TS was ALSO guilty of being bought by AT&T, although not charged, hence a good mouthpiece for anti-Net-Neutrality the AT&T position. Heard it to be common knowledge inside there.
..what a let down. I had been bursting to pass the internal rumor, hearing nothing of it out-&-about. SO is it common knowledge or simply extremely likely/probable that TS had a sugar-daddy at the phone co?..
Well I don't know that I heard it from any credible source, but listening to his tirade, I just assumed he had memorized some vague talking points passed to him on a notecard by a lobbyist from a major Telco. Is it confirmed?
he gets a lot of flack for the tubes comment but it's not really a bad analogy, his presentation however demonstrated a great lack of understanding of the content of his rant, he was probably repeating something he was briefed about that morning, tube analogy and all.
That is precisely my point - the tubes is not a poor analogy, but he clearly does not understand exactly what it means. He is a shill for the telecom companies.
Well, I postulate that the people who "run American" are actually a very few wealthy businessmen... and the majority of our politicians, unfortunately, seem only too happy to take their money in exchange for selling out the American public. I make exceptions for people like Jim McDermott and Dennis Kucinich - and Mike Gravel, who was a Senator from Alaska, just like Ted Stevens. He was of a better kind, obviously. I think I will be able to say the same about Obama in eight years. I hope so.
hellshade2 --> He was only recently convicted. A judge has yet to sentence him. I fear that due to his age, wealth, and status, he will be given special treatment. He accepted "gifts" from prominent businessmen and tried to hide the fact and lie about it. He should go to prison, in my opinion. We'll wait and see what his sentence is.
Wow... this is a politician... these are the people who have the power to legislate morality through coercion... these are the people you're trusting to point the guns at the "right" people and you're surprised when you get shot?
BEWARE the Tubes!!!!

Nice work if you can get it. This is Alaska's government-funded rugged individualism.
