@MurphyMonster according to "The Vault," (Fallout Wiki) Deathclaws evolved from Chameleons. The radiation gave them vicious armor-piercing claws and made them lose thier ability to blend in with the background. (Good thing too!)

If you want to kill a deathclaw best thing you can do is mutilate a leg, so he can not reach you. With a mine can do it without problems. The next thing you can do is throw grenades are very effective even if you have 30 points in explosives or use a Chinese assault rifle pointed at his head. When I created my character Unarmed was lvl 3 and went to the edge of the bottom left on the map, going to a campsite where there was a deathclaw. just kill him with 2 mines and 4 grenades.

i only use the dart gun on death claws.

it turns one of the most powerfull fastest creatures into the easiest kill you can get..

just one shot and they limp toward you like zombies and you can take free shots at them.

but with any other enemy the dargun is pretty usless.

sure it does 8 per second but id rather blow their head off than wait for the slow kill

Always take a dart gun when you go to death claw territory. I did, and managed to get the vengance (laser minigun inside the santuuary) with out even being hurt. All I had with me was a dart gun and a chinese rifle.
