I think our Military could certainly use some Improvement. Better Discipline and more stringent training methods would be welcome in my eyes, and Coastal and Aerial Defenses could use some buffering up. But the most important thing our country needs (and the thing we lack most critically in my mind) is self-sustainability. If we ever do come to all out war with another capable nation, the American Populace needs to be able to take care of ourselves and our soldiers at once.
UN soldiers, peacekeepers, are contributed BY countries, such as the United States, therefore your point is null. Please don't underestimate my understanding of the United Nations and its surrogates.
So while I'm still alive, I'll heartily advocate what it takes to make my family stronger in the long run. War is unpleasant; only a fool would say otherwise, but I do see it as any other evolutionary experience. Whether God takes us all up to Heaven in a few years and its all rendered moot, or we have to hammer each other until we've got it right, I don't really care.
I look to the future, yes, but I also have requirements in the present, to my country and ENTIRE family.
And I really have no illusions that given the chance, many of those would attack us. I see my country as my extended family, and past that, Humanity as a whole. I would love for us all to be united as one, but the fact is that that isn't going to happen.
Our race is still maturing, still evolving. Perhaps we will end up a lot of peaceful hunter gatherer's again, maybe a great spacefaring empire. Frankly I don't know and I doubt I'll live to see it...

The UN estimates the casualties on both sides to total about ten thou. That means combatants, civies the whole nine yards. Out of that there is 2,200 roughly civies casualties in Iraq and 2,000 in afghan. Which I'll admit is higher than I though it was. But these guys don't play by the rules.

yes, but there is a huge difference in a few civilian casualties and 2.5million civilians dead. When you have more than twice as many civilians dead as you have enemies, then you cannot make any excuses other than a lack of care and disicipline.

@dkr56 Still we had about 10,000 true civilian casualties in that war which I'll admit is too high. We're not perfect but at least we try to fix things. But at least we're not the army of South or north Vietnam. Those two combined caused the rest, along with some soviet and british intermingled. @117MrSmiley Do you live in a dry climate (desert)? I used to get nose bleeds when I was younger. Turns out it was just capillaries that were too close to the suface in my nose cracking when my blood pressure went up, like when exercising. My doctor was able to cauterize them with some sort of chemical and it hasn't been an issue since. Good luck.

I wasn't weeded out because i was the my division RCPO in boot and top of my class in every school I went through before A school and then 2nd in my class in A school. I think our Military could certainly use some Improvement. Better Discipline and more stringent training methods would be welcome in my eyes, and Coastal and Aerial Defenses could use some buffering up. But the most important thing our country needs (and the thing we lack most critically in my mind) is self-sustainability. If we ever do come to all out war with another capable nation, the American Populace needs to be able to take care of ourselves and our soldiers at once.

So while I'm still alive, I'll heartily advocate what it takes to make my family stronger in the long run. War is unpleasant; only a fool would say otherwise, but I do see it as any other evolutionary experience. Whether God takes us all up to Heaven in a few years and its all rendered moot, or we have to hammer each other until we've got it right, I don't really care.
I look to the future, yes, but I also have requirements in the present, to my country and ENTIRE family.

And I really have no illusions that given the chance, many of those would attack us. I see my country as my extended family, and past that, Humanity as a whole. I would love for us all to be united as one, but the fact is that that isn't going to happen.
Our race is still maturing, still evolving. Perhaps we will end up a lot of peaceful hunter gatherer's again, maybe a great spacefaring empire. Frankly I don't know and I doubt I'll live to see it...

The UN estimates the casualties on both sides to total about ten thou. That means combatants, civies the whole nine yards. Out of that there is 2,200 roughly civies casualties in Iraq and 2,000 in afghan. Which I'll admit is higher than I though it was. But these guys don't play by the rules.

But at least we're not the army of South or north Vietnam. Those two combined caused the rest, along with some soviet and british intermingled. But the South Vietnamese were a young fighting force back then. They made mistakes. I respect you more than alot of these idiots on here though. At least you're rational and will listen to reason

I support republican candidate Ron Paul for president :), the only veteran runnin, plans to withdrawl troops, was a physician etc.

@117MrSmiley Do you live in a dry climate (desert)? I used to get nose bleeds when I was younger. Turns out it was just capillaries that were too close to the suface in my nose cracking when my blood pressure went up, like when exercising. My doctor was able to cauterize them with some sort of chemical and it hasn't been an issue since. Good luck.

You see when I joined I really believed all the bullshit they tell you in boot camp and in commercials that people appreciate you, that your doing honest work for your country. Then I kept getting shit on because of random bad luck I guess but it made me realize that I truly hate the way the leaders see their men.

@felio182 I would know that... if I were in the Army. unfortunately for you Im in a different branch called the Navy. I wasn't weeded out because i was the my division RCPO in boot and top of my class in every school I went through before A school and then 2nd in my class in A school. I was literally told by PSD (the desk jockies that handle paperwork) that I wasn't going to receive my sign on bonus simply because it was some how not granted on accident but there was nothing that could be done.
