  • trade that mic for my D! lol

  • I should have said there is only 2 versions of this song that i like , linda is great , but theres something about this version by tori,

  • :))

  • She did fuck the song up

    and the microphone too :P

  • Rather be the piano, or her bench.

  • A few weeks ago I didnt know this woman. One day I saw this video, I heard her voice and i felt in love with her...

  • @hirschbirn She gets you that way. Get stuck into that back catalogue, it's amazing. Such a complex artist, I never get bored by Tori.

  • Absolutely stunning

  • she is so pretty

  • Can she be any more beautiful? achh, 2:17...

  • I think that she might be the most beautiful woman that I've ever gazed or listened upon.

  • best version of this song ever :) <3

  • fuckin' lucky microphone!!!

  • @NocturnalTryst HAHAHA!

  • @NocturnalTryst agree

  • it seems easy. She sings with great passion a song difficult to sing so easily. Wonderful piano arrangements.

  • For some strange reason I wanted to listen to this song as soon as I clicked onto Youtube and especially wanted to hear a female version and so now I probably have just listen to the best version going around.

  • GAH SOO beautiful, i wish she'd only pronounce LOVE correctly.

  • goose bumps, all over! Tori is THE best singer songwriter, ever, and I also adore her covers

  • how does she do that!

  • Comment removed

  • tori amos version is great !!but linda ronstadt and more ,especially the eagles version, is the definitive version of this song!johnny cash does a brilliant cover too!but the eagles original cut is ,by far,the definitive version of this song!love tori amos !

  • "let sumbudy luuuuve you..."

  • I just keep watching this, over and over.

  • anyone who wants to be that microphone for a while?

  • @shurawiira my little brother

  • @shurawiira I wanna be Tori and suck on that microphone, I'd speak into that sexy goddamn microphone ALL GODDAMN DAY ! *jerks off* o_o

  • wow, there is only two versions of this sone (the eagles) and (Tori)

  • @remedy59 linda ronstadt

  • My goosebumps have goosebumps. I still think Ms. Amos is at her best when it's just her, a mic, and a piano.

  • Whoa...

  • I remember being 7 and hearing this song for the first time. It has always reminded me of my favorite Uncle.

  • linda ronstadt sings a lot better

  • @mercuryplanet69 I have to agree.

  • beautiful, and she is beautiful too

  • Only the Eagles can do this the rest are pale riders

  • i duont leek ut, she seays all theeee words feeeeuuuunnnnieee. i agree, she butchers this song. I'm from the south, and , E dint sang leek that.

  • i still think jill johnson sang this song better..tori totally changed this song..but then again, it's up to individuals to comment on this song.. Anyhow, i still love this song!! reminds me so much of one person..

  • Wow! what a sex machine!

  • Great song, different interpretation, not my cup of tea, but that's why we are free to choose who and what we listen to and like.

  • Excellent piano playing, but her lack of voice butchered this song...

  • @dakwa1 "her lack of voice butchered this song"

Yup. She uses a meandering and non-rhythmic style to cover up the faults in her voice; that, and her cartoonish southern accent. Unbearable.

  • Tori, You are just amazing !!

  • My favourite singer singing my favourite song.

  • Why is it that every song she does is so amazing you find yourself grasping for the words describe something thats undescribable.

  • She is so beautifeul

    Love here for ever !!!!!!!

  • What a great lovely song, and what a unbelievable woman!!

  • freaky sick... dang

  • Tori Amo é lindaaaaa e canta super bem e é muito talentosa adoro ela ♥

  • I normally wouldn't like anybody who would dare touch one of Lindas' tunes, but I guess we have to make an exception.

  • @TheOldGunslinger Linda's ? This is an Eagles tune, my friend.

    Peace...

  • @Carlosmr1984 Oh, shit. You're right. I stand corrected. Peace to you, too.

  • Tori Amos reminds me here of Bob Ross, explaining her work & how she does it... just when she talks. lol!

  • BRowe99 you are very much narrow minded when it comes to music.. your immature.. music comes in all different melodic styles..

  • "And this one! ... came alive for me there.

  • Glorious. This is salve to my soul.

  • Music to my ears <3 Love it!!!

  • tori just somehow makes every song she sings sexy and heartfelt at the sametime.......HOW????????

  • jesus this is a fantastic cover.

  • She has an interesting pronounciation..Where is she from? And, absolutely beautiful voice...

  • no offense .. but is she high ??

  • I think my heart just exploded from bliss...

  • This version stinks, the voice is too much smooth and she believes that she's is a great singer, STINKS

  • @sameri2002 "This version stinks, the voice is too much smooth and she believes that she's is a great singer"

I agree; a hopelessly self-indulgent performance. Her job as interpreter is to capture and transmit the essence of the song. Instead, she subordinates the song to what she imagines is her great talent.

  • @BRowe99 You obviously have no connection.. Can you do any better? I doubt it..

  • @DigitalGhost82

    Can I do better - no, I can't. So what? I'm a music fan, not a performer.

Linda Ronstadt does much better (to give only one example).

  • @BRowe99

Two totally different musicians.. Two different women.. Two different styles.. period.

  • @DigitalGhost82 Two different styles.. period

Yes, an immature, self-indulgent style on the one hand, and a self-controlled, consciously melodic style on the other.

  • @BRowe99 > You have formed some opinion of Tori, and it confuses me. She has never proclaimed/imagined herself as this "great talent". She interprets according to the meaning she has come to identify with, and in doing so, she captures/transmits the essence in her own way. That's what interpretation is about. I doubt the original artist thinks she was subordinate in anyway through her interpretation of this song. Think about it, and then ask yourself, "Who am I to criticize?"

  • @rfgstl

TA " has never proclaimed/imagined herself as this "great talent"."

She may not have "proclaimed" it, but conceited self-admiration is written all over her. I don't know how you can't see it.

"I doubt the original artist thinks she was subordinate in anyway"

You don't know one way or the other.

"Think about it, and then ask yourself, "Who am I to criticize?""

I don't know where you live, but here on planet Earth we criticize what we don't like.

  • @BRowe99 > I still don't understand. Your statements about Tori don't seem to come from a valid point-of-view. You are entitled to your opinion, but does holding that opinion mean that you can call her "conceited" and a "self-admirer? I don't think so...maybe if you knew her on a personal level, or have shared some sense of intimacy with her, which I doubt you have. Dislike doesn't give you the right to criticize anything/anyone, especially if that dislike seems to come from one-sidedness.

  • @rfgstl

Look down the comment list. My first comment was a response to @sameri2002. He wrote "This version stinks, the voice is too much smooth and she believes that she's is a great singer". I agreed with the last part. I was challenged by someone else, responded etc. Now I'm challenged by you. Are you saying that only people who adore TA should post here?

  • @BRowe99 >Let's just agree to disagree. I was stating that you're entitled to your opinion, as is everyone. But, your opinion of Tori doesn't make the things you say about her true in anyway. You stated that she is "conceited","self-admiring" an "imagined great talent". How do you know that she is? I know that she is none of those things b/c I have come to identify with her music, her talent. You can not like Tori, that is your choice. Just know that others may challenge you on your opinions.

  • @rfgstl

"..your opinion of Tori doesn't make the things you say about her true"

    Same with your opinion.

"I know that she is [not "conceited" etc ] b/c I have come to identify with her music, her talent"

Your opinion is no more or less valid than mine. You could change.

"You can not like Tori, that is your choice"

It is not a choice. I would be glad to be able to enjoy her music as much as Ronstadt, McKennitt etc.

"Just know that others may challenge you on your opinions"

    You don't say.

  • @BRowe99 >We could go on about this, but there is no need. That's why I said we agree to disagree. If I came off the wrong way through my statements, I'm sorry. My sincerity as a Tori fan might have got the best of me. I don't challenge what you say for sake of argument. I challenge it b/c I want you to know that I identify with her in a different way. You said that you would be glad to be able to enjoy her music. As someone who has enjoyed it for many years, I hope that maybe you will one day.

  • @rfgstl

"We could go on about this, but there is no need. That's why I said we agree to disagree."

    OK

"If I came off the wrong way through my statements, I'm sorry."

    Not at all.

"My sincerity as a Tori fan might have got the best of me. I challenge what you say b/c I want you to know that I identify with her in a different way."

    I think you're in love.

"You said that you would be glad to be able to enjoy her music I hope that maybe you will one day."

    Hmmmm.

  • @rfgstl

"Your statements about Tori don't seem to come from a valid point-of-view."

    How so?

"You are entitled to your opinion, but does holding that opinion mean that you can call her "conceited" and a "self-admirer?"

This makes no sense. That she is conceited etc IS my opinion. To me it is obvious.

"..maybe if you knew her on a personal level, etc"

On the contrary. It is when she is before an adoring audience that her character is tested.

  • @BRowe99

I just want to know what your reasoning is behind your calling this performance "self-indulgent". Please enlighten me.

By the way, Tori does have great talent. You can dispute her vocal ability all you want, but you cannot deny her pianistic skill.

  • My heart stops every time I see her perform, and when she looks at the screen at me..lol.. I never knew how to make love until i heard her soul.........ouch, is this too much or......im truthful without a doubt.......xoxo for as long as i live.......

  • @mus1cat - Have to disagree strongly. She really is an exceptional artist. Want a change of pace, listen to her song "Wednesday."

  • I'm sorry to say that you are sadly mistaken, not my opinion, it's fact. Oh and did you mean breath(instead of breathe) You can hate her all you want, but let's stop talking shit here.

  • @DATCH73 I didn't say I hated her. Ok, I may have spelled "breath" wrong and I know how spelling errors should be avoided when posting. Hey, I'm not perfect but no need to use profanity here. You are like all the others who need to enhance their postings with cursing although your used of the "s" word is mild compared to other people.

As for Tori, from what I've heard of her music, I hear the same tone and pace, etc., in each song. Recommend other songs that are different to show variety.

  • The subtlety and feeling she brings to this song, as well as the lovely touch on the piano, put it in a different league from any other version I know.

  • I am in love with her voice and her passion.

  • Not sure if this is the BEST rendition of this song I've ever heard - but at the VERY LEAST it's a very respectable treatment of one of the best songs the Eagles ever did - it's just SOOOO sad that they cut if off so short the way they did..??

  • beautiful :) ♥

  • DEAR JESUS... I AM LOST ... THIS BEAUTY PERSONIFIED IN A WOMAN... THIS GIRL IS AN ANGEL!

  • I love it, it's very beautiful and you can tell she really put emotion into the performance!

  • her voice is so sexy

  • didnt thought id say it but.....beatiful rendition

  • OMG. This version takes my breath away!

  • did she just say loove you ? weird

  • wow, she looks amazingly gorgeous here!!!!!!

  • I actually like this version better then the eagles version..

  • One of my favorite singers singing one of my favorite songs!!! Tori Amos ROCKS!!!

  • that boesendorfer sounds epic

  • i personally think she might sound better if she opened her mouth a little bit, and didnt breathe right into the microphone, but thats just my personal opinion. i do think she sings it well though, she just needs to watch her airflow a little bit, "someeeee-how" kinda awkward

  • she sings soo weird. i know you all will hate on my comment but u know its true. she sings it in a spooky way and her whisper style of singing is..just...whispering

  • @AndrewJ26 Thats what makes this version so amazingly beautiful though

  • i love her low voice sounds so nice

  • What a beautiful version, all of her covers are almost as good as her originals, so talented and so beautiful, inside and out!

  • MMMM....

  • what are you talking about? tori's husband is mark and she has a daughter tash not in the her band.

  • Impeccable.

  • Comment removed

  • My god you've had a stroke!

Um, assuming you're only feeling on one side ;-P

  • Wow she looks so beautiful here.

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • I wish Tori would record this song.

Saw her in Boston Last August. She was great! She can really rock when she wants to.

  • I couldn't love this any more, it's just the most perfect vocal I have ever heard. It's such a personal song to me, her face when she sings really expresses what she is singing, its such pain and beauty all in one. I get sad about a particular thing every day, and the words in this remind me that it will all be ok one day, as I have someone who is fixing it and they don't even know.

Tori, thank you for being a constant inspiration.

I really can't stop watching this...

  • she is goddamn beautiful, and the song too. Together: unearthly just I don't know ... Divine???

  • I love Tori to she rocks :D

  • i play in a metal band and listen to pantera and black label society but this just blows me away, my goal would be to put so much feeling and passion into my music, my god this really touched me

  • I watch this every single day. This sung by Tori, and only this version, means so much to me I don't know where to begin explaining. I love this song, and I love who it makes me think of every time I play it.

Only Tori can sing with such heart-felt conviction and emotion from the soul.

'It may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you'

Tori, you are my rainbow in the rain.

  • Wow, i feel like my heart has just exploded

  • To be Tori's microphone for just one night would be the sexiest, most beautiful night with a woman that this man could ever imagine...

  • This songs says what I don't know how to. Only Tori can sing this and make it mean what it does to me, the other versions don't touch me in the slightest. Tori could sing the phonebook and it would break my heart. xXx

  • My favourite Eagles track covered by my favourite artist. Tori, you are inspirational.

  • i got used to her voice. she was sountrack to my childhood and my awkward adolescence.

  • Just a great version of a great song. She does it as if she had written it herself.

  • I love you so much

  • Great Tori. Simply great.

  • love tori...but no one can touch linda rondstants version, in my opinion.

  • I always break out in goosebumps when I hear her sing this song.....it reminds me of myself......

  • this needs more clipping!

  • I don't like the original version of this song, but man...I just want to curl up in a blanket, read a book and listen to this cover all night. It's so hauntingly beautiful....

  • good looking woman with a voice like that ... wonderful

  • Odd, if I did'nt know the words i would'nt understand what she was singing about.

    Nobody sings it like Don!

  • Would you think this is the definitive version? Up there with Karen Carpenter's I think....

  • Karen's is beautiful :)

  • she didnt make this don henley did from the eagles

  • yes yes, but Eagles are kinda boring. The song had been covered by many others. Just because Eagles wrote it does not make their's the definitive version.

  • ...yes it does.

  • i like her voice right here

  • Man, you just know she'd tear that shit up in bed.

  • Excellent!

  • I love her accent, and the way she integrates being from North Carolina with her songs.

She has an incredible technical grasp of music, and infuses it with emotions that, frankly, make me feel them along with her. I've seen her in concert 6 times, and she is never less than an overture of the senses.

  • @AerowsX

  • I love T. I love how she takes a 1 syllable word and makes it 2 or 3. Like "girl" becomes "gi-eel". And her D-E's. are more like D-I's. Ab Fab, girls.

  • actually that's something I love about her...

  • I looooove this song. I looooove this cover. And I especially looooove the way she says looooove.

  • Ditto, Tori covered this song wonderfully!

  • I love this song

  • brilliant

  • I like it. And I hate the fucking Eagles man.

  • she looks very younger on here... this video shoud be very old... !!!

  • it was a show in 2003 She was forty at the time

  • she's freakingly amazing!!! i hate lovin' her, kidding... i just love her.. she's very different from the other singers and performers living today.. she is amazing here, i love her rendition and before the she sing the song, she's like a storyteller.. hehe'

  • the most beautiful rendition of that song that there is

  • I'm overwhelmed....no other way to put it.

  • wonderful!!

  • Let somebody luuuuuuuve you, indeed.

  • She looks like an angel in this video <3

  • @Cyaneyed77 Thats because she is :)

  • @Cyaneyed77 She is an angel, dude. <3

  • She's exceptional!!!

  • Tori Amos just made me fall in love with this song. Just hearing her talk (when she's not being so brazenly vulgar) gives me chills. I love her. :)

  • Magnifica!!...Molte versioni di questa canzone sono bellissime, ma questa ha qualcosa di particolare...qualcosa di angelico..

  • Wow. What an incredible cover...it's my new favorite. I've got goosebumps! Thanks so much for sharing.

  • She seems to be using a Stevie nick's sound. But i have never heard a better version of this than Linda Ronstadt's version, in my opinion. Linda did it best but Tori is okay too.

  • she is divine

  • She is damn sexy

  • brilliant cover...

i love how she forgets the lyrics at around 3:20 or so!

  • WOW!! This kicks any other version's butt!

So much passion in this performance, I have chills!

  • Jesus, that's so beautiful :)

  • WOW!

    Thanks for the post.
