this really isn't a fix, like stated before its just pushing on the manual release mechanism. This problem usually begins happening due to low quality resin used to lubricate the gears during manufacturing. Solution is to take the CD drive outa the xbox and clean/regrease the gears, will fix it 99% of the time permanently.

@maghery69 if theres no disc inside your xbox push the tray as you press the eject button it should open if not then get a paper clip slide it under the tray press ejeck and flick the paper clip up and out shud open it

Never stick anything in your xbox, that hole doesn't have anything under it but a metal plate anyway. Just repeatedly open and close it until it works. It's better than risking doing actual damage to your entire xbox rather than just having a retarded disc drive.

Its usually a power failure when you get RRoD its technically RRoD but it just means power failure it happens during a surge or if your cord becomes slightly unplugged

Helpful, but this isn't "fixing it". There is a black belt (like a rubber band) inside the front of the drive, at the bottom, that needs to be cleaned if you want it fixed for good (depending on what the problem is, it might fix it for good). You have to take apart your Xbox though, but I think it's the old garbage Xboxes that usually have this stuck-drive problem, so they aren't under warranty anyway.

The way I got mine to open was just to unplug the console & plug it back in again, no disassembly necessary. It depends on what caused it.

rrod you cant fix it or save it its wen a chip inside of ur xbox is over heated and melts cause the fans arnt working properly thats how rrod is cause there are 4 main chips if you have 1 red light 1 chip 2 red lights 2 chips 3 so on :)

That's not a fix, just a workaround. All drives have that manual release hole, except when they don't really line up with anything useful (like on most Xbox 360's). You need to clean or replace the drive belt, which involves opening up the machine (if it's out of warranty).

Thats not really a fix. Having to use a paper clip all the time. I just push the button and hit the top of the xbox. Opens right up

Just so you know, that's not how to fix it. What you're doing with the the paperclip is the manual release option. Any disc drive works like that including one's on PC's. It's there so in case you have a disc stuck in there you can open it that way without even powering it.

@ReijiNakashi well, it was just a power failure that cause the rrod. the light on my brick was red because something wasn't plugged properly so I didn't have to send it. but I did get the disc out of the tray. That was a while ago but if I remember correctly, there is another hole in the front. The hole leads to the gears that operate the disc tray and you have to operate them manually with a clip or something small but sturdy. hope this helps!
