Joe Carson passed on at too young an age (at 27 in 1964, not too long after this song was a hit).Had he lived he might be up there in the pantheon of pioneers alongside Merle, Willie (who wrote this song), George Jones, etc. As a fan of country since I was little (because my dad and his mom were fans) I was shocked that I'd never heard of Joe until recently.This is because we don't have country oldies radio in every town to inform us,and if you don't get satellite radio,what options do you have?
